There is no single best replacement for Google Ads or Meta Ads. Microsoft Advertising is the closest general-purpose alternative for search intent; TikTok, Pinterest, Snapchat and Reddit are better suited to audience-led discovery; LinkedIn is built for professional B2B targeting; and Amazon, Walmart Connect and Instacart reach shoppers inside retail ecosystems. Native networks and programmatic platforms can extend reach, but they are not simple substitutes for a search campaign.
The right choice depends on what you sell, where your customers make decisions, and how you will measure a profitable outcome—not just a low-cost click. This guide compares 21 advertiser-facing platforms by their role, fit and main trade-off.
What counts as an ad network?
“Ad network” is often used as shorthand for any platform where advertisers buy media. The 21 options here do not all work the same way: some sell search ads, some reach people through social or community content, some connect brands to retail shoppers, and others provide programmatic buying across publisher inventory.
| Platform type | Examples | Typical strength |
|---|---|---|
| Search advertising | Microsoft Advertising, Apple Ads | Reaching people already looking for a product, service or app |
| Social and community | TikTok, LinkedIn, Reddit, Snapchat, X | Audience targeting, conversation or creative-led discovery |
| Visual discovery | Planning and inspiration, often for visual categories | |
| Retail media | Amazon Ads, Walmart Connect, Instacart Ads | Reaching shoppers within a retailer’s ecosystem |
| Native discovery | Taboola, Outbrain | Content-led discovery across publisher environments |
| Programmatic and commerce platforms | StackAdapt, Yahoo DSP, Criteo, Google Display & Video 360, AdRoll | Cross-site reach, retargeting, video and other inventory |
| Local and audio | Nextdoor, Spotify | Geographic relevance or audio-led reach |
That distinction matters: a search click, a retail-media impression, a promoted community post and a connected-TV ad are not interchangeable. Some platforms can capture existing intent; others help create or influence demand.

The 21 platforms, explained
1. Microsoft Advertising
Best for: search-intent traffic, local services, B2B and ecommerce advertisers looking to diversify from Google Search. Microsoft Advertising includes search inventory and auction-based bidding; charges depend on the campaign’s bidding arrangement, not a universal rate card. See Microsoft’s ad-auction and billing information.
It is often the most direct first test for an advertiser with an established search campaign. Microsoft supports campaign imports from Google Ads, Meta and Pinterest, but imported settings should be audited rather than assumed to be suitable as-is. Search partners and audience placements should also be evaluated separately from core search traffic. Audience options and LinkedIn-related signals depend on campaign and audience availability; they are not unrestricted LinkedIn profile targeting in every campaign. Microsoft’s audience-options documentation describes those distinctions.
Trade-off: Search volume is smaller than Google’s in many markets, and performance varies by geography and audience. It may be a poor fit if your customers are concentrated in places where Microsoft search usage is limited or you need maximum possible query volume. Start at Microsoft Advertising.
2. TikTok Ads
Best for: consumer brands, entertainment, beauty, fashion, food and mobile apps that can tell a story in short-form video. TikTok is a creative-led discovery channel: it can introduce a product before someone makes a conventional search.
Plan for a steady supply of native-feeling vertical video, with multiple hooks and demonstrations to test. Repeated creative can lose effectiveness, and click or view metrics alone do not establish conversion quality. Compare platform results with analytics, order or payment data, and CRM outcomes. TikTok is a weaker fit for a narrow professional audience or an advertiser that cannot produce mobile-first video. See TikTok for Business.
3. LinkedIn Ads
Best for: B2B lead generation, account-based marketing, recruiting, professional education and high-value services. LinkedIn can target professional and company attributes, making it useful when job function, industry, seniority or named-account reach matters.
LinkedIn’s auction pricing depends on factors such as objective, bid strategy, audience and competition; it does not publish one fixed cost for every advertiser. Its own explanations are available at LinkedIn’s advertising pricing page and LinkedIn Help. A high lead cost may still make sense if lead-to-opportunity rates and customer value support it. The channel is less suitable for low-average-order-value products or mass-market reach without a strong offer, such as a case study, webinar or useful tool. Start at LinkedIn Ads.

4. Amazon Ads
Best for: brands selling on Amazon that want to appear in a shopping context. Sponsored products, sponsored brands, and eligible display or video options can help advertisers reach customers close to a marketplace purchase.
Advertising does not fix a weak product page. Inventory, price, reviews, Buy Box eligibility, fulfillment and marketplace fees all affect whether additional sales are profitable. Evaluate contribution margin, not revenue alone, and distinguish a campaign’s immediate sales from longer-term brand effects. It is a poor fit for businesses that do not sell through Amazon or need off-marketplace leads. Explore Amazon Ads.
5. Pinterest Ads
Best for: visual categories such as home, fashion, beauty, food, weddings, travel, crafts and gifts—especially where people plan or collect ideas before buying. Pins and catalog-based options can support discovery and shopping, subject to availability.
Rank #2
Results depend on creative quality, category fit and timing. Pinterest can suit consideration and planning better than an urgent conversion, and seasonal behavior may make delivery uneven. It is a weaker choice for text-heavy offers with little visual appeal. See Pinterest Business.

Best for: reaching niche communities and people researching technical products, gaming, finance, hobbies or specific problems. Context can make the audience more relevant than broad demographic targeting, but it does not guarantee a commercial mindset.
Creative should answer a real question or offer useful detail; generic sales language can draw skepticism. Public comments and community reaction can shape how a campaign is received, so be prepared to respond credibly. Reddit is a poor fit if the brand cannot substantiate its claims or handle scrutiny. See Reddit Ads.
7. Snapchat Ads
Best for: mobile-first campaigns aimed at younger consumers, app installs, entertainment and local promotions. Vertical video and augmented-reality formats can make sense when the creative is designed for the platform.
Audience strength varies by country and age group. Use mobile-native assets and measure post-click quality rather than treating installs or clicks as business results. Snapchat is less suitable for older professional audiences or offers requiring lengthy desktop research. Visit Snapchat for Business.
8. X Ads
Best for: campaigns connected to live events, sports, news, entertainment, technology, finance or ongoing public conversation. It can provide timely reach where an audience follows developments in real time.
Conversation is not the same as purchase intent. Review placement controls and suitability reporting before scaling, especially if the brand requires tightly controlled adjacency. News cycles, platform changes and user behavior can make outcomes volatile. See X Ads.
9. Quora Ads
Best for: education-led demand for software, professional services and products that need explanation. People asking or reading questions may be researching a problem, so an ad and landing page should answer that problem directly.
Question context can be informational rather than commercial, and broad targeting may bring low-intent visits. Quora is less attractive when the offer is purely impulse-driven or the advertiser needs very large reach. See Quora for Business.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches10. Taboola
Best for: native discovery, publisher reach and content-led funnels. Native placements can support awareness, education and lead generation when the conversion path needs more context than a direct product ad.
Do not expect these clicks to behave like high-intent search. Placement, publisher, device and creative all affect traffic quality, so evaluate engaged visits, qualified leads and revenue—not click-through rate alone. Advertorial-style campaigns also need accurate claims and an appropriate landing experience. See Taboola.
11. Outbrain
Best for: native content discovery and editorial-style campaigns seeking publisher reach. It can play a similar strategic role to Taboola, while offering a different set of publisher and audience exposure.
Assess publisher and placement quality, and judge the channel on qualified sessions and downstream outcomes rather than inexpensive clicks. It is a poor fit if you have no useful content, cannot support a longer consideration path or lack tracking to distinguish superficial visits from valuable users. See Outbrain.

12. Criteo
Best for: ecommerce retargeting, commerce media and product recommendations for advertisers with meaningful catalogs or behavioral data. It is generally more relevant once a business has qualified traffic to work with.
Retargeting cannot create a large audience from nothing, and a conversion reported after an ad exposure does not prove that the ad caused the sale. Test incrementality where feasible and account for feeds, tracking, audience pools and commercial qualification. Criteo is a weak fit for a low-traffic site that cannot assess incremental results. See Criteo Advertising.
13. StackAdapt
Best for: programmatic campaigns across formats such as display, video, connected TV, audio and native, including omnichannel or B2B strategies. It is more appropriate for advertisers and agencies with a media plan than for a basic, very small PPC test.
Inventory quality, frequency, viewability, invalid traffic and attribution need active oversight. Access, service arrangements and practical minimums can vary, so confirm them directly before planning spend. See StackAdapt.
14. Yahoo DSP
Best for: agencies and larger brands buying programmatic display, video, connected TV, native or audio beyond social platforms. It can complement search and social through broader inventory and campaign controls.
Access and commercial terms may vary. Supply-path choices, frequency and measurement need programmatic expertise, making it a poor fit for an advertiser that needs a simple, low-budget way to capture search demand. See Yahoo Advertising.
15. Apple Ads
Best for: acquiring users for apps distributed through Apple’s ecosystem, particularly when people search or browse in the App Store. That makes it more directly tied to app-store intent than general social advertising.
Rank #4
Measure activated users, retention and subscription or in-app revenue—not installs alone. Ratings, screenshots, localization and onboarding influence whether paid discovery becomes durable usage. It is not applicable to a product without an iOS app. See Apple Ads.
16. Spotify Ads
Best for: audio-led awareness and campaigns where sound, lifestyle context or reach matters. Audio can complement visual and search channels, but may influence later behavior without generating an immediate click.
Strong audio creative matters, and last-click conversion alone can understate its role. Spotify is a weaker fit for a product that needs visual demonstration or a campaign judged only by immediate direct response. See Spotify Ads.
17. Nextdoor Ads
Best for: local services, home improvement, real estate and neighborhood retail where geographic relevance is central. A community setting may help with proximity-based offers, but it does not guarantee that a resident is ready to buy.
Check audience density and geographic coverage in the specific service area, then qualify leads and appointments. Nextdoor is a poor fit for global digital products or businesses with no local footprint. See Nextdoor for Business.

18. Walmart Connect
Best for: consumer brands, CPG and sellers whose products are distributed through Walmart. Retail-media placements can connect advertising with shopping behavior, including sponsored products and eligible onsite or offsite extensions.
Results depend on distribution, catalog quality, stock, price and reviews. Evaluate attributed sales against margin and incrementality, and confirm seller or brand eligibility for the market and placement. It is not a substitute for general awareness if the product is unavailable through Walmart. See Walmart Connect.
19. Instacart Ads
Best for: grocery, food, household and other products sold through participating retailers on Instacart. The shopping and replenishment context can place ads close to a retail purchase.
Distribution through the relevant retail ecosystem is a prerequisite, and results should be assessed through incremental basket sales, repeat purchase and margin. It is not suited to a long sales cycle or a business seeking general website traffic. See Instacart Ads.

Best for: enterprise programmatic buying across display, online video, connected TV, audio and other formats. It can support cross-channel planning, reach and frequency management, and audience activation.
DV360 is not a simple alternative to Google Search. Trafficking, measurement, brand suitability and supply-path management are more involved, and access may not suit small advertisers. It is a poor fit without programmatic capability or a reliable measurement framework. See Google Display & Video 360.
Best Value
21. AdRoll
Best for: small and mid-sized ecommerce or lead-generation businesses looking for retargeting and related campaign functions in a more accessible service. It can simplify some workflows, but it is not a standalone source of new demand.
Retargeting requires a sufficiently useful pool of qualified visitors; a small audience can lead to excessive frequency and unstable reporting. Check platform-attributed conversions against order or CRM records and, where practical, test incrementality. Fix tracking, offer and landing-page problems before adding retargeting software. See AdRoll.
Which platforms fit your business?
Ecommerce and direct-to-consumer
Start with the places your customers already shop and the creative channels that suit the product. Amazon Ads is a natural candidate for an Amazon seller; Walmart Connect or Instacart Ads may fit when distribution matches. Microsoft Advertising can add search and shopping reach, while TikTok can test creative-led discovery and Pinterest can serve visual planning categories. Consider Criteo or AdRoll only after enough qualified traffic exists for retargeting.
- Judge performance on contribution margin, not revenue ROAS alone.
- Check product-feed accuracy, stock, shipping, returns and review quality.
- Separate new-customer revenue from returning-customer sales.
B2B SaaS and professional services
LinkedIn is a strong candidate when professional role, industry or account targeting matters. Microsoft Advertising can capture search demand; Reddit may fit technical or developer audiences; Quora can support education-led evaluation. Larger campaigns may consider StackAdapt or programmatic account-based approaches if they can manage the complexity.
- Track lead-to-opportunity rate, sales acceptance, pipeline value and time to close.
- Use CRM and offline-conversion data where available instead of optimizing only to form fills.
- Compare cost with customer value and close rates, not with consumer-social lead costs.
Local services
Microsoft Advertising can capture local search intent, while Nextdoor may add neighborhood reach. Select geography around the actual service radius and assess calls, appointments completed and lead quality. A local platform is less useful if the business cannot serve the locations it reaches.
Mobile apps
Apple Ads is the most direct option for App Store discovery. TikTok, Snapchat and Reddit can offer audience-led acquisition where the app and creative fit. Measure cost per activated user, retention and downstream revenue; an inexpensive install is not necessarily a valuable user. Account for fraud and attribution limitations.
Recommended Free Tools
Enterprise and large brands
StackAdapt, Yahoo DSP and DV360 suit broader programmatic plans; Criteo can fit commerce use cases, and retail media can add purchase-context placements. These are not automatic upgrades over self-serve campaigns: they require attention to reach, frequency, supply quality, brand suitability, measurement and data governance.
Closest alternatives by Google or Meta use case
Use this as a shortlist of hypotheses, not a promise that another channel will reproduce the same results.
| If you want an alternative to… | Starting platforms to test | Why the comparison is imperfect |
|---|---|---|
| Google Search | Microsoft Advertising; Apple Ads for apps; Amazon Ads for marketplace products | Audience size, search behavior and transaction location differ |
| Google Shopping | Amazon Ads, Walmart Connect, Instacart Ads, Microsoft shopping placements | Retail eligibility and product distribution vary |
| Meta prospecting | TikTok, Pinterest, Snapchat, Reddit; LinkedIn for B2B | Creative norms and audience intent are different |
| Meta retargeting | Criteo, AdRoll, Microsoft audience placements, Pinterest or TikTok options | Audience availability and attribution differ; retargeting needs qualified traffic |
| YouTube reach | TikTok, Spotify, Snapchat, connected TV through a DSP | Video environment, reach, sound and measurement are not equivalent |
| Google Display | StackAdapt, Yahoo DSP, Criteo, Taboola, Outbrain | Inventory and buying models differ across programmatic and native products |
| B2B reach from LinkedIn | Reddit, Microsoft Advertising, search, or programmatic account-based campaigns | Professional identity targeting may not be replicated |
| Local Facebook reach | Microsoft Advertising, Nextdoor, or local publisher inventory | Local coverage and community activity vary by market |
| App-install campaigns | Apple Ads, TikTok, Snapchat, Reddit and suitable programmatic options | Install volume does not establish retention or revenue quality |
How to choose and test a new network
1. Define the job before choosing the platform
Decide whether the campaign is meant to capture existing demand, create demand, retarget visitors, sell inside a marketplace, generate qualified B2B pipeline, acquire app users, reach a local audience or build brand reach. A network is only a sensible candidate if it can plausibly do that job for your audience.
2. Shortlist one primary and one secondary hypothesis
Examples: a local plumber might test Microsoft Advertising with Nextdoor; a B2B SaaS company might test LinkedIn with Microsoft; a fashion brand might test TikTok with Pinterest; a grocery brand might compare Instacart Ads with Walmart Connect if distribution supports both. A technical product might test Reddit alongside search. These combinations are starting points, not performance guarantees.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3. Set up measurement before spending
- Install the relevant platform conversion tag or SDK and verify events.
- Use a consistent UTM naming convention.
- Connect CRM, order or payment data where practical, including revenue and margin fields.
- Distinguish new from returning customers and exclude internal traffic.
- Review consent and privacy requirements; use server-side or first-party event support where appropriate and available.
4. Match the landing experience to the channel
Search visitors may be ready for a direct offer. TikTok visitors may need education and proof; LinkedIn visitors may need a business case; Reddit visitors may expect transparent technical detail; native traffic may require a longer pre-sell experience. Reusing a search landing page is only a fair test when the incoming intent is similar.
5. Set a stop rule tied to your economics
Choose the threshold before launch, using a measure that reflects the business: maximum cost per qualified lead, activated user or contribution-margin acquisition; minimum qualified-session or lead-to-opportunity rate; or a maximum frequency. There is no universal minimum budget that makes every platform viable. Access, practical spend, sales qualification and delivery conditions can differ by product, country and account, so confirm current terms with the platform.
6. Validate quality and incrementality before scaling
Compare platform reporting with web analytics and CRM or order data. Check sales acceptance, cancellations or refunds, repeat purchases, frequency and placement quality. Platforms may claim credit under different attribution windows; reported attribution is not, by itself, proof that the ad caused the conversion. Holdout or geographic tests, and new-customer analysis where appropriate, can help assess incremental value.
Quick Recap
Common mistakes when diversifying ad spend
- Treating every channel as a search replacement. Discovery, retail media, native and audio can influence later branded search, direct traffic or CRM activity rather than produce an immediate last-click sale.
- Comparing click-through rates across formats. A search ad, audio impression, video and promoted community post have different reasons to be clicked. Compare outcomes suited to the campaign’s job.
- Scaling retargeting before building an audience. Retargeting platforms cannot solve a lack of qualified visitors, and small pools can become overexposed.
- Optimizing to platform-attributed conversions alone. Reconcile platform reports with analytics, CRM or order data, new-customer rate, and incrementality tests where feasible.
- Ignoring creative and operating costs. Media is only part of the test; video production, editing, landing pages, feeds, tracking and ongoing optimization take resources.
- Assuming lower auction competition guarantees better economics. A lower click price does not ensure enough volume, conversions or customer quality.
- Overlooking eligibility and policy. Rules differ by platform and can affect categories such as health, finance, employment, housing, politics, supplements, gambling, cryptocurrency and affiliate promotions. Verify current policy and account eligibility before launch.
