In those results, Bank of America ranked first overall, followed by Chase and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. The study also found that mortgage-servicer apps lagged websites and other financial app categories, especially in reliability and useful account tools.
What the study measures—and what “2026” means
JD Power evaluates digital mortgage-servicing experiences across websites and mobile apps over the life of a mortgage. Its 2025 study examined functional aspects of desktop websites and apps at the largest U.S. servicers, scoring four factors in order of importance: design, system performance, information, and tools and capabilities. The study was fielded in September and October 2025 and drew on 5,223 evaluations from mortgage customers who had visited their servicer’s website or app in the preceding nine months. JD Power’s December 4, 2025 release reports the detailed results.

The “2026” in the topic should not be read as a year label for these scores. JD Power’s study page description references 2026 bank-segment app profiles, but the materials reviewed do not establish whether full 2026 results or rankings have been published. The figures below are therefore 2025 results, not evidence of 2026 performance. JD Power’s study page

Which servicers ranked highest in the 2025 results?
Bank of America led the overall satisfaction rankings, with Chase second and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage third. The scores provide a dated comparison across the study’s participants; they do not predict an individual borrower’s experience or establish the current quality of every customer’s service.

| 2025 overall rank | Mortgage servicer | Score |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bank of America | 784 out of 1,000 |
| 2 | Chase | 762 out of 1,000 |
| 3 | Wells Fargo Home Mortgage | 754 out of 1,000 |
Across apps and websites, the 2025 average satisfaction score was 713 out of 1,000. Bank of America’s 784 was 71 points higher than that average. These are study scores, not a measure of interest rates, loan terms, or the quality of a particular borrower’s mortgage.
How did mortgage-servicer apps perform?
JD Power reported an average satisfaction score of 704 out of 1,000 for mortgage-servicer mobile apps in 2025. That was 22 points below satisfaction with servicer websites, 38 points below wealth apps, and 35 points below retirement-provider apps. The gaps suggest that having an app is not the same as making routine account tasks easy to complete.
Rank #2
JD Power also found that only 44% of mortgage-servicing apps delivered the foundational experience described in the release, including reliable availability and a clean, modern look and feel. Just 12% delivered the highlighted valuable features: easy alerts, the ability to direct extra payments to principal, and information about expected escrow shortages or overages. These percentages describe the apps assessed in the 2025 study, not every servicer app available today.

His comments describe the study’s perspective, not a regulatory standard. JD Power senior director of wealth and lending intelligence Bruce Gehrke said that well-designed apps can help servicers engage customers at the moment decisions are made; that, too, is an executive’s interpretation of the study findings.

What to check in your own servicer’s website or app
A useful personal comparison follows the study’s four factors. Test the tasks you actually need rather than choosing a servicer based on rank alone.
- Design and navigation: Can you quickly find payments, statements, escrow details, and contact or help options?
- System performance: Does the login and payment flow work reliably on the devices you use? Check whether the site or app provides a clear confirmation after a transaction.
- Information: Can you understand the amount due, due date, payment breakdown, fees, past-due amounts if applicable, and recent transaction activity?
- Tools and capabilities: Look for payment alerts, a way to apply extra payments to principal, and useful escrow information, including anticipated shortages or overages.
Availability and labels vary by servicer, account, and platform. If a feature is missing or unclear, check the servicer’s website or contact it directly rather than assuming the app’s display is the only available record.

Digital convenience does not replace servicing protections
Mortgage servicing is also governed by requirements concerning matters such as payment processing, escrow, periodic statements, error resolution, requests for information, early intervention, and loss mitigation. The CFPB’s mortgage-servicing resources describe relevant Regulation X and Regulation Z topics. Regulation X §1024.38 requires servicers to maintain policies and procedures reasonably designed to support accurate and timely disclosures, investigate and respond to borrower complaints, and provide accurate and timely responses to information requests. In servicing transfers, it also addresses handling relevant loss-mitigation discussions and agreements. These duties inform what a digital channel should help support; they do not require a specific app layout or feature set. CFPB mortgage-servicing compliance resources
Regulation Z §1026.41 covers periodic statements. Depending on the circumstances and applicable exemptions, a statement can include the amount due and due date, payment breakdown, fees, past-due amounts, transaction activity, account information, and delinquency information. Borrowers should not assume that every account has identical statement content or that an app screen substitutes for a required statement. CFPB mortgage-servicing compliance resources
The CFPB’s mortgage-servicing page describes changes dated July 10, 2024 as a proposed rule. The materials available for this article do not establish whether a final rule has since been published or taken effect. How much weight should you give the ranking?
Treat the 2025 standings as one comparison input, not a guarantee. The study combines evaluations across a large sample, but your own experience depends on your servicer, account, and the tasks you need to complete. A high score does not show whether your particular payment was posted correctly, an escrow question was resolved, or a loss-mitigation request was handled well. For those issues, keep your own transaction records and use the servicer’s established contact and complaint channels as needed.
