How much does a 2025 Volvo XC60 cost?
Volvo Car USA announced these U.S. starting MSRPs for the 2025 XC60. They are manufacturer list prices, not dealer transaction prices or out-the-door totals; taxes, fees, options, and dealer pricing can change what a buyer pays. At the Core level, the announced T8 starting MSRP is $11,000 above the B5. That is a comparison of starting prices only; it does not establish how equipment, dealer discounts, incentives, or financing affect a particular purchase.
What is the difference between the B5 and T8?
The B5 is a mild hybrid, while the T8 is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). A mild hybrid is not the plug-in option in this comparison; the T8 has a battery that can be charged from an external power source and an electric-only driving estimate. Volvo’s current U.S. B5 AWD page lists 247 hp, 26 mpg combined, AWD, five seats, and maximum towing capacity of 3,500 lb. The T8’s larger starting-price premium buys plug-in capability and substantially higher published power, but the available evidence does not establish a fuel-savings or payback figure. Whether its higher price makes financial sense depends on personal driving, charging access, electricity and fuel costs, incentives, equipment, and the final deal.
What performance and electric range does Volvo publish for the T8?
Volvo’s current U.S. T8 specification page lists an AWD plug-in hybrid with up to 35 miles of electric range, 63 MPGe, 455 hp, 523 lb-ft of torque, and a 0–60 mph estimate of 4.5 seconds. These are current Volvo-published figures, not confirmed 2025 model-year specifications. Volvo calls its power figures preliminary estimates and says real-world acceleration varies with conditions. Its range estimate is based on EPA driving cycles, and the company cautions that actual range depends on driving behavior, conditions, maintenance, the battery, and other factors. Volvo also lists an 18.8-kWh battery and a typical five-hour charge from 0–100% using a two-phase 16A AC charger. That is a typical stated charging time, not a promise for every session: Volvo says charging time can vary with outdoor and battery temperature, equipment, and vehicle and battery condition.

The T8 is worth considering if you can charge regularly
With a published electric-range estimate of up to 35 miles, the T8 may suit a driver whose routine trips often fall within that estimate and who can charge at home or elsewhere on a regular basis. That is a practical inference from Volvo’s stated range, not a guarantee that every trip will be electric or an ownership-cost finding. The plug-in system still includes gas power for longer trips. The B5 is the lower-priced choice if plugging in is not practical
If external charging is inconvenient or you do not want to make it part of your routine, the B5 avoids paying the T8’s higher starting price for plug-in capability. Its announced 2025 Core MSRP is $11,000 below the T8 Core’s. The current B5 specifications offer context, but should not be treated as a confirmed 2025-only rating.
Do not treat published figures as a personal cost estimate
MSRP, electric-range estimates, and MPGe do not by themselves show what a specific buyer will spend. A useful comparison needs the negotiated vehicle price and equipment, annual mileage and trip pattern, local gasoline and electricity rates, charging access, and any applicable incentives. The figures available here do not establish a total-cost-of-ownership calculation, tax treatment, or precise payback period.

What should buyers verify before signing?
- Ask for the exact model-year and trim window sticker, including installed options and fees, then compare the dealer’s quote with the relevant announced starting MSRP.
- Confirm the 2025-specific EPA figures and equipment for the exact vehicle. Volvo’s cited performance pages are live pages rather than model-year-locked 2025 specifications.
- If considering the T8, confirm the charging equipment supplied with that vehicle and whether your home or workplace setup is compatible.
