The 34th PNWER Annual Summit took place July 20–24, 2025, at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue in Bellevue, Washington. The completed event brought together U.S. and Canadian public- and private-sector participants to discuss regional economic resilience, collaboration, innovation and trade.
What is the PNWER Annual Summit?
The Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) is a cross-border forum spanning 10 U.S. and Canadian jurisdictions. Its 2025 backgrounder describes working groups focused on issues including agriculture, border and trade, disaster resilience, economic and workforce development, energy, forestry, innovation, mining, tourism, transportation and water policy. Priorities identified by summit delegates guide PNWER’s work through the year. PNWER’s 2025 backgrounder lists the member jurisdictions as Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Alberta, British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan and Yukon.
PNWER described the summit as a gathering of legislators, business leaders, academics and policymakers from the United States and Canada to discuss regional economic practices and trade concerns. The organization calls itself “the leading forum where people in the policy world and the business world come together to figure out solutions to regional challenges”; that is PNWER’s own characterization. The official event page gives the 2025 theme as “Building a Resilient Future through Regional Collaboration, Innovation and Trade.”

What topics did the 2025 summit cover?
The recap describes sessions on regional economic development, tourism and trade, as well as Washington industries including space, biotechnology, quantum computing and artificial intelligence. Energy discussions addressed infrastructure, grid resilience and regional collaboration. Other documented presentation topics included water technology; wildfire, forest management and community resilience; future-ready supply chains; transportation funding and finance; ports and global trade; FIFA-related binational planning; cross-border livestock health; grid generation; life sciences; maritime supply chains; and advanced air mobility. Hydrogen study findings
PNWER said the summit included findings from two hydrogen studies conducted by Deloitte: the Cross-Border Hydrogen Analysis, commissioned by the Washington State Department of Commerce and British Columbia Clean Energy and Major Projects Office, and the Alberta Hydrogen Study, commissioned by the Government of Alberta. PNWER’s policy-tour archive lists activities related to the Snoqualmie Falls hydropower project, Microsoft’s Digital Crimes Unit, Werkhoven Dairy and anaerobic digestion, fusion energy, and the Pacific Northwest space sector. Where can you find PNWER summit presentations?
PNWER’s presentation archive lists selected 2025 session titles and links to some slide decks. It is useful for following up on specific topics, but it does not establish that every session has a public presentation. The summit page also links to session recordings; the accessible event material does not establish that a complete session-by-session record is available.
For a broader sense of the event’s focus, PNWER’s recap includes a participant perspective. “We get great relationships across the border and as always, the presentations and programs PNWER does are instrumental in helping us learn more about the industry,” said Ken Dey, director of government and public affairs at Simplot. “The economic focus – it’s critical for so many companies.
