The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is a factory-built, street-legal muscle car engineered around drag-strip performance. Dodge rated it at up to 1,025 hp on E85 and announced a U.S. MSRP of $96,666 before destination and fees. Whether it is worth the cost depends on how much you value its specialized performance and limited production—and what a particular car costs today. That original sticker is not a current used-car valuation.
What makes the Demon 170 different?
Dodge built the Demon 170 as a drag-focused version of the Challenger SRT, pairing a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 with a modified 3.0-liter supercharger and a 105 mm throttle body. Its output depends on ethanol content: the engine senses the fuel blend and automatically adjusts power. The maximum published rating is tied to E85, not to every fill-up.
For launch performance, Dodge equipped it with TransBrake 2.0, which offers selectable launch-torque profiles, and Drag Mode suspension tuned for weight transfer and drag-oriented calibrations. The package also includes model-developed Mickey Thompson ET Street R rear drag radials. Together, these features make the car’s central proposition unusually focused: delivering very high power to the track surface during a launch.
Demon 170 specifications and claimed performance
| Specification | Dodge-published figure or detail |
|---|---|
| Engine | 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 |
| Supercharger and throttle body | Modified 3.0-liter supercharger; 105 mm throttle body |
| Output on E85 | 1,025 hp at 6,500 rpm and 945 lb-ft at 4,200 rpm |
| Output on E10 | 900 hp and 810 lb-ft |
| 0–60 mph | 1.66 seconds, a Dodge manufacturer claim |
| Quarter-mile | 8.91 seconds at 151.17 mph, a Dodge-published figure described as NHRA-certified |
| Rear wheels and tires | 17-by-11-inch wheels with P315/50R17 Mickey Thompson ET Street R drag radials |
The power ratings and acceleration figures are from Dodge/Stellantis’ 2023 launch materials. The quarter-mile time and trap speed are also reported by NHRA. They are not a promise of the same result on every road or at every track: surface, traction, launch setup and conditions matter. The 1.66-second 0–60 mph result is a manufacturer claim; do not treat either acceleration number as an independently measured everyday-road result.

Which fuel does it need?
Dodge’s owner supplement says the Demon 170 is designed for premium gasoline and ethanol-blended fuel, and that the vehicle detects ethanol percentage and adjusts output automatically. E85 is associated with the maximum published rating, but it is not described as a requirement for the car to run. On E10, Dodge lists 900 hp and 810 lb-ft instead of the E85 rating of 1,025 hp and 945 lb-ft.
That distinction matters to a buyer’s use case: the headline output depends on fuel blend, so consider local access to suitable ethanol-blended fuel when assessing how often you could use the maximum-rated configuration. The cited material does not establish fuel prices or comparative operating costs.

What did the Demon 170 cost new?
Dodge announced a U.S. MSRP of $96,666 in 2023, excluding destination and fees. It is the original launch price, not an estimate of what a Demon 170 costs now. Dodge also announced a planned cap of up to 3,300 units—3,000 for the United States and 300 for Canada—with final production contingent on capacity and component availability.
Limited production helps explain the car’s appeal to enthusiasts and collectors, but scarcity alone does not establish a current market premium, future appreciation or investment return. No current asking-price or completed-sale data is established here. For a purchase decision, compare the actual asking price with dated, relevant transaction evidence and assess the individual car’s condition and provenance rather than treating the original MSRP as today’s value.

Is the Demon 170 worth the money?
It is easiest to justify for someone who specifically wants a factory-engineered drag-strip car, can use its performance, and values its limited production. The case rests on the combination of high output, launch hardware, drag-oriented suspension and a purpose-developed tire setup—not on a general claim that it is a practical or financially appreciating car.
For a street-oriented buyer, weigh that specialization against the compromises. Dodge’s manual supplement says the factory drag radials have limited wet-weather capability and that lightweighting increases interior noise; drag-strip use may add more noise. The manual describes Eco mode as providing a more relaxed throttle response recommended for wet weather, and points to a Direct Connection street wheel-and-tire package for all-weather street use. Confirm the package’s exact specification and current availability before relying on it.

The factory rear tires are 17-by-11-inch wheels with P315/50R17 Mickey Thompson ET Street R radials developed for the Demon 170. They are intended to put power down under extreme acceleration, not to erase the manual’s wet-weather warning. Before buying replacement tires or a street setup, verify fitment, road suitability and present inventory for the specific car.

- Match the car to your use. Decide whether drag-strip performance or ordinary street comfort and all-weather usability matters more.
- Check fuel access. The maximum Dodge-published output is on E85; the car also adjusts output for ethanol content and has a lower published rating on E10.
- Inspect the specific vehicle. Evaluate condition and provenance, then compare its asking price with current, dated market evidence.
- Budget from real ownership information. Get insurance, fuel and maintenance estimates for your situation; the figures available here do not establish those costs.
- Verify any conversion or accessory. Check tire fitment, all-weather suitability and current availability before treating a street wheel-and-tire package as part of the ownership plan.
