Those are trim-specific estimates, not guaranteed prices; mileage, condition, equipment, location, and seller type can move an individual car’s value. The 2012 Accord has a favorable model-level reliability rating, but that cannot establish the condition of a particular high-mileage car. Compare like-for-like listings, check recalls by VIN, and arrange an independent inspection before committing.
How much should I pay for a 2008–2012 Accord?
Use these Kelley Blue Book (KBB) figures as reference points, not as a complete price guide for every year or a guaranteed offer. KBB describes its estimates as typical-condition dealer purchases and says values vary with vehicle details and location.

A dealer asking price and a private-party price are not interchangeable, and a national estimate may not match your local market. How mileage and condition change the comparison
Mileage is only one part of value. A well-documented, carefully maintained car may warrant a different asking price from a similar-mileage example with gaps in its records or visible wear. Compare the car’s service history, inspection findings, equipment, and local comparable listings before deciding whether an asking price is reasonable.

What changed between 2008 and 2012?
Honda identifies 2008–2012 as the Accord’s eighth generation, sold as a sedan and coupe. The generation included 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines and 3.5-liter V6 options. For 2012, Edmunds lists 177-hp and 190-hp versions of the 2.4-liter inline four and a 271-hp 3.5-liter V6. Four-cylinder versions were offered with a five-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic. V6 sedans used a five-speed automatic; the coupe could be equipped with a six-speed manual. Confirm the exact configuration from the vehicle’s records and equipment.

The right configuration depends on what you value. Edmunds’ editorial review praises the 2012 Accord’s passenger space, visibility, four-cylinder fuel economy, and coupe availability, while criticizing road noise and interior quality. Those are review judgments, not guarantees about a used example: cabin wear, tire condition, and prior repairs can affect the experience. Are 2008–2012 Accords reliable?
Available model-level evidence is encouraging for the 2012 Accord but does not support a definitive reliability ranking across all five model years. Edmunds lists a RepairPal reliability rating of 4.5 out of 5 for the 2012 Accord. That is a rating for the model, not a prediction that a specific used car will avoid repairs. Consumer Reports’ search excerpt also describes the 2012 as more reliable than other cars from its model year, but its page was not accessible for direct review here, so that statement is less firmly corroborated.
Neither a reliability rating nor a favorable comparison tells you how an individual car was maintained, whether it has hidden damage, or what work it may need next. Do not treat either as a failure probability or as a substitute for an inspection and maintenance records. What should I check before buying a used Honda Accord?
- Compare the listing with local equivalents. Match year, trim, engine, body style, transmission, approximate mileage, condition, and seller type. Use the KBB figures above only as reference points, then check current local listings.
- Ask for maintenance and repair records. Look for dated documentation and a consistent account of ownership and service. Missing records do not prove neglect, but they leave more uncertainty to resolve.
- Check recalls using the car’s VIN. Edmunds lists eight recalls for the 2012 Accord, but a model-year count does not show which recalls apply to a particular car or whether repairs were completed. Run the exact VIN through the official NHTSA recall lookup and request documentation for completed recall work. Edmunds’ search excerpt for 2008 also mentions recalls; counts can differ by source or counting method, so verify each car individually.
- Arrange an independent mechanical inspection. Have a qualified mechanic assess the specific vehicle before purchase. A model-wide rating cannot reveal that car’s condition or repair history.
- Evaluate the car you will actually own. Check the interior and controls, visibility, road noise, and comfort on a test drive. Consider whether the engine and transmission suit your driving and fuel-cost priorities.
