SalaryLeaks’ current estimate ranks Cristiano Ronaldo first among the highest-paid strikers and forwards at $229.3 million a year, followed by Karim Benzema at $114.6 million. These are SalaryLeaks’ displayed estimates, reviewed October 7, 2026—not audited club disclosures. Its ranking covers forwards broadly, so it includes players who are not exclusively central strikers.
Highest-paid strikers and forwards: SalaryLeaks’ 2026 ranking
The table reproduces SalaryLeaks’ order and annual dollar figures as displayed on October 7, 2026. SalaryLeaks says its ranking is updated daily and its estimates are compiled from credible public reports; that is the publisher’s description, not an independent audit. Player contracts and reported compensation can change, so treat this as a dated estimate rather than an official payroll.

Source: SalaryLeaks’ highest-paid strikers/forwards ranking. Amounts are rounded as displayed. The source’s ordering should be retained where rounded annual figures look tied: for example, Lautaro Martínez is listed above Kai Havertz even though both display as $19.0 million, because the underlying weekly figures differ slightly.
How to read the ranking
The first two estimates are far above the rest
SalaryLeaks lists Ronaldo at $229.3 million and Benzema at $114.6 million, with Haaland third at $36.5 million. That sharp gap is a feature of this publisher’s estimates; it should not be read as proof that every figure uses an identical definition of salary or compensation.

“Striker” is broader than centre-forward here
The ranking is labeled for strikers/forwards. Forward is a broad position category that can include wingers and attacking players as well as centre-forwards. It is not a list restricted to players who operate as traditional number nine strikers.
It is not a verified global payroll
The page describes its data as estimates compiled from public reports. The available evidence does not establish that every contract or reported amount is official, or that the list captures every league worldwide. Club and contract-year information on the ranking page can change and should be checked there for the latest listing.

Why other salary lists show different figures
Football pay rankings can measure different things: fixed wages, broader reported compensation, or a model’s estimate of what a player should earn. They may also cover different leagues, seasons, currencies and update dates. Those figures are not directly interchangeable.
Big Five European-league wage estimates
FBref’s 2025–26 wages table, which credits Capology, is scoped to Europe’s Big Five leagues rather than the global forward category. It lists Erling Haaland at an estimated €31,495,158 in annual wages and Kylian Mbappé at €31,250,000. The different scope and currency make it an imperfect cross-check against SalaryLeaks’ global, dollar-denominated ranking. View FBref’s 2025–2026 Big Five wages table.

CIES models a “deserved” salary, not actual pay
The CIES Football Observatory’s 2025 analysis estimates what players should earn under its model rather than ranking reported actual compensation. It gives Mbappé a modelled gross fixed annual salary of €22.8 million and says this is 40% below what he receives. CIES says its model draws on almost 2,000 salaries negotiated on permanent transfers or contract extensions and explains 83% of observed salary differences. Those are the organisation’s model and sample descriptions, not an alternative measurement of the same quantity as SalaryLeaks’ estimate. Read CIES Football Observatory’s 2025 analysis.
Quick Recap
What the numbers can—and cannot—tell you
- Use the SalaryLeaks table as a dated snapshot of a publisher’s reported forward estimates, not as confirmed net income or a club-certified wage list.
- Do not compare a gross fixed salary model, a league-specific wage estimate and a broader compensation estimate as though they were one metric.
- Check the source’s update date and definition before citing any figure; differences in scope, currency and reporting method can change the apparent ranking.
