There is no reliable, verified ranking of 15 cakes that actually sold for the highest prices. Published lists combine reported commissions, event and exhibition cakes, and valuations that may largely reflect jewels attached to a cake. The examples below are therefore a comparison of widely reported figures—not proof of 15 completed sales. Where sources disagree or the sale status is unclear, that distinction matters as much as the headline price.
How to read the reported prices
A cake described as “worth” millions is not necessarily a cake that changed hands for that amount. In several accounts, diamonds or other jewelry contribute substantially to the figure; some cakes were made for private celebrations, shows, or television, while others were display pieces. The sources below do not provide transaction records sufficient to establish a definitive sale-price ranking. Treat each amount as a reported price or valuation unless a completed sale is specifically documented.
The list is ordered roughly by the reported figures, not by verified sale value. It draws on India Today (2016), The Business Standard (2021), Rarest.org (2022), and IGP (2023); those publications do not establish a common valuation method.
15 cakes with exceptionally high reported figures
1. Runway Cake — reported at $75 million
India Today reported that designer Debbie Wingham created a six-foot-long, approximately 1,000-pound cake for an anonymous buyer’s daughter’s joint birthday and engagement celebration in the UAE. The account says it took more than 1,100 hours to make and included extensive diamond decoration. India Today also reported that 17 large stones alone cost more than $45 million. Those figures describe the reported value of a jewel-adorned object, not a typical cake price or a verified public sale.

2. National Gay Wedding Show Cake — reported at $52 million to $52.7 million
India Today reported a $52 million figure for a cake created for the 2013 National Gay Wedding Show in Liverpool. Rarest.org gives $52.7 million, describing an eight-tier cake made by CAKE Bakery and decorated with more than 4,000 diamonds. The sources disagree on the amount, and making a cake for an event does not establish that it sold for either figure.
3. Pirates Fantasy Cake — reported at $35 million
The Business Standard reported this price for chef Dimuthu Kumarasinghe’s pirate-ship cake, which it describes as incorporating jewelry and ten different-flavored layers. Rarest.org also reports $35 million and says the cake was made and sold, but the sources reviewed do not provide a transaction record. The reported figure should not be treated as independently verified sale proceeds.
4. Prestige by Mervis Diamond Importers — reported at $35 million
IGP includes Prestige in its list of expensive cakes at $35 million. The page does not provide a transaction record or enough detail to establish whether this was a completed sale, a commission, or a valuation. It is best read as a published list claim rather than a confirmed sale price.

The Business Standard reports that the Cake Boss team made this cake for Devorah Rose and adorned it with precious stones. Rarest.org attributes it to Buddy Valastro and describes it as a television-show creation. The Business Standard says the gems accounted for the headline value; neither account establishes an open-market sale at $30 million.

IGP lists this Takashimaya cake at $25 million but supplies no transaction record. The figure is therefore a reported list valuation, not demonstrated evidence that a buyer paid that amount.
7. Luxury Bridal Show Cake — reported at $20 million
India Today attributes this 2006 California bridal-show cake to Nahid Parsa and describes it as decorated with gold flakes and diamonds. Rarest.org describes an eight-layer version. The reported figure concerns a showpiece; the sources do not verify a sale.

8. Diamond Chocolate Cake — reported at either $850,000 or $8.5 million
The amount is particularly uncertain: Rarest.org reports $850,000 for a display cake at Takashimaya in Osaka decorated with 100 diamonds, while IGP reports $8.5 million for a similarly named cake attributed to Masami Miyamoto. That tenfold discrepancy is unresolved in these accounts, so neither number should be presented as a settled price or rank.
9. Cullinan Diamond Cake — reported at $7 million
IGP names Guillaume Sanchez as the creator and gives a $7 million figure. Its account does not provide transaction evidence, so the number remains a reported list claim rather than a confirmed sale.

10. Luster Dust Cake — reported at $1.3 million
India Today describes a 160-pound cake exhibited at the Dallas Bridal Fair, decorated with silver dust and diamonds, and reports a $1.3 million figure. Rarest.org describes a Tokyo Luster Dust Cake at a similar amount, while IGP attributes a Luster Dust Cake to Butch Stivers and Dallas Delicious Cakes and says it was not edible. Because the names and details may refer to different or conflated objects, the accounts do not establish one clearly identified cake or a sale.

IGP lists this cake by Nobue Ikara at $1.3 million. The page does not substantiate a completed transaction or explain the valuation basis, so the number should be treated as reported rather than verified sale revenue.
12. Fiona Cairns’s royal wedding cake — reported at $80,000
India Today and IGP report an $80,000 figure for the cake Fiona Cairns made for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding. The cited coverage presents a reported price or value, not a documented sale to a buyer for that amount.
13. Liza Minnelli and David Gest wedding cake — reported at $40,000
India Today lists the couple’s wedding cake at $40,000. The account does not establish that this was a completed sale price; it is a reported figure associated with the wedding cake.

14. Prince Charles and Lady Diana wedding cake — reported at $40,000
India Today also gives $40,000 for a cake made for the 1981 wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana. That reported amount is not evidence of a sale transaction.
15. Ron Ben-Israel’s Swarovski Crystal Cake — reported at $32,000
India Today lists the cake at $32,000. The figure is a reported price or valuation in that article, not a substantiated sale record.

The highest numbers often bundle together very different things: pastry, labor, event commissions, display value, and jewelry that may be removable or valuable apart from the cake. A reported $75 million jewel-adorned commission and a wedding cake with a published $40,000 figure are not comparable transactions unless the valuation method and sale evidence are known.
- Sale versus commission: A cake made for a named client or event does not prove that it was sold at its reported value.
- Food versus display object: Some examples were exhibitions or display pieces; IGP says the Luster Dust Cake it describes was not edible.
- Jewels versus cake: Where diamonds or other stones are part of the object, a headline value may substantially reflect those items rather than the edible work.
- Conflicting reports: The National Gay Wedding Show Cake and Diamond Chocolate Cake have materially different figures across sources.
What counts as an expensive cake sale?
For a meaningful record, the reported amount would need to be tied to a completed transaction, with a clear description of what changed hands and whether jewelry was included. The sources cited here do not supply that evidence for most entries. Rarest.org separately lists a $9,999 “Still the One” wedding cake from Deerfields Bakery as an online offering; an advertised offer is not the same as a completed sale and is not comparable evidence for a historic luxury-cake record.
