Choose the right fit before comparing features
Measure both laptops, not just the screen diagonals
Screen size is a rough category, not a fit measurement. A thin 16-inch business laptop and a thick 16-inch gaming laptop can have different width, height and hinge depth. Measure each laptop’s width, height and thickness; repeat with any hard shell or sleeve you intend to use. Everki specifically advises using device dimensions rather than relying on screen-size labels, and publishes maximum compartment dimensions for the Atlas Wheeled 2. - Compare the full device measurements with the manufacturer’s compartment measurements, allowing room to insert and remove the laptop.
- Check whether the zipper closes without forcing it and whether the bottom of the sleeve protects the laptop from the ground when the bag is set down.
- Test the fit with the case or sleeve attached, if you plan to use one.
- For a tablet-sized secondary pocket, verify that it is actually wide, tall and thick enough for your second laptop.
Match capacity to the whole load
As a practical planning range, 20–24 L can suit two thin laptops and basic accessories with little clothing; 25–32 L is a useful work-plus-short-trip range; 33–40 L offers room for peripherals or clothing but can become large for everyday commuting. Decide whether rolling hardware is worth it
A rolling backpack can reduce shoulder strain when you move through airports, hotels or large campuses with two computers and peripherals.
