That does not make every look right for every home—or mean every item below is an Amazon buy. These 14 ideas are an editorial synthesis of designer survey results and forecasts, with practical ways to test them before committing money or changing a room.
What the 2026 trend numbers actually say
1stDibs’ 2025 report is based on 468 online interviews conducted in July and August 2025 among designers in its Trade 1st Program; Surveys & Forecasts, LLC conducted the research. Its percentages describe those respondents, not all designers, homeowners, or shoppers. The survey was published by a marketplace, and its sample came from that marketplace’s trade program. The figures are useful as signals, not a universal ranking. The 14 categories below group overlapping findings and forecasts into ideas you can adapt at different levels of cost and commitment. For additional professional context, the American Society of Interior Designers’ 2026 Trends Outlook Report frames its outlook around “an urgent desire to find grounding, joy, and truth in a world that feels anything but neutral.”
14 decor trends to consider for 2026
1. Maximalism with intention
In the 1stDibs survey, 39% of designers cited maximalism. Try layering a few pieces you already own—art, books, a patterned cushion—rather than buying decor simply to fill surfaces. A deliberate edit keeps an expressive room from becoming cluttered.

2. Eclectic, collected rooms
Eclecticism was cited by 38% of survey respondents. Mix finishes, eras, or shapes in a way that feels personal: pair a newer lamp with a secondhand bowl, for example. A collected look can be built gradually instead of purchased as a matching set.
3. Chocolate brown and warm earth tones
Chocolate brown was selected by 33% as a leading color for 2026. Test it with a pillow, small vase, or other portable accent before repainting or replacing a large piece. Warm brown can anchor a room, but check how it looks alongside your existing flooring and light.
4. Burgundy and moody reds
In the survey, burgundy rose from 7% for 2025 to 21% for 2026. A napkin, cushion cover, or tabletop accent offers a small-scale way to try the color. Compare it with the room’s other reds and browns before adding more.

5. Floral and botanical patterns
Floral and botanical motifs led the survey’s pattern preferences at 22%, ahead of geometric patterns at 10% and stripes at 9%. Pillow covers or towels let you test a print without committing to upholstery. 6. Vintage and antique character
Vintage and antique pieces made up an average of 36% of items sourced per project in 2025 among the surveyed designers—the highest proportion reported since 2021. The survey also found that 85% sourced vintage pieces dating from 1920 to 2000. If you shop online, distinguish an authentic vintage or antique item from a new reproduction, and confirm condition, dimensions, and return terms. One well-chosen secondhand object can add character without replacing a room’s furnishings.
7. Curved silhouettes
Curved or irregular-shaped furniture was cited by 43% of respondents. For a lower-commitment interpretation, look for a rounded tray, lamp, or small accent rather than buying a major piece of furniture. Check dimensions against the surface where it will sit.

8. Wicker and rattan texture
Rattan or wicker furniture was cited by 27%. A woven basket or lampshade can introduce similar texture without the cost or footprint of a new chair. Consider dusting and cleaning needs, especially for pieces used in kitchens, entryways, or other high-traffic areas.
9. Skirted furniture and softer edges
Skirted seating was cited by 24% of surveyed designers. If you like the softer, tailored effect but are not ready to buy or reupholster a seat, try a throw or a fabric-covered table accent. Keep fabric away from damp floors and choose something you can clean as needed.
10. Irregular-shaped rugs
Irregular rugs were cited by 21%. Their outline can add movement, but measure the floor area and check the rug’s dimensions rather than relying on product photos. A non-slip pad can help reduce shifting; confirm the rug and pad are suitable for your floor type.

11. Color drenching
Color drenching—using one color across walls and trim—was cited as a surging trend by 35% in the survey. It changes a large area and is less reversible than swapping accessories, so consider it only if repainting fits your budget, lease, and plans for the room. A painted sample area can help you judge the color in different light first.
12. Wallpapered ceilings
Wallpapered ceilings were expected to grow by 35% in the 1stDibs forecast. A ceiling is a substantial surface, and installation can be difficult to reverse. Test a sample first; do not assume wallpaper is renter-safe or removable without damage. Check the product’s instructions and your landlord’s rules before applying it.
13. Textured or upholstered walls
Thirty percent of 1stDibs respondents noted upholstered walls. Architectural Digest’s professional coverage also points to interest in dimensional wall treatments. These can add depth, but custom installation and materials may be costly. For a smaller test, use a textured textile or wall hanging instead of treating an entire wall.

14. Expressive lighting and artisan details
Murano-glass pendants were cited by 28% in the survey, while Homes & Gardens describes battery-operated sconces as a lower-commitment decorative option. Katie Jackson, interior design director at Jackson Platt Interiors, calls battery-operated wall sconces “Easy to install and an instant decorative element to upgrade a space,” in Homes & Gardens’ Amazon home decor roundup. Check the sconce’s charging or battery requirements, mounting method, and whether its light output suits the intended use before ordering.

Start with the change you want, then compare its footprint and reversibility. A floral cover or woven basket affects a small area and is easy to move; painting, ceiling wallpaper, custom upholstery, and dimensional wall work require more money, labor, and tolerance for a lasting change.
- Set a room-specific limit. Decide what you can spend before browsing, including any accessories needed to install or protect the item.
- Test one accent first. Use a pillow cover, small object, or sample to see whether the color or texture works with your existing palette.
- Check practical details. Confirm dimensions, materials, cleaning instructions, mounting needs, seller, and returns. For textiles and rugs, consider wear, washing, and floor safety.
- Keep the room usable. Do not sacrifice storage, clear walkways, or useful lighting for a look that photographs well but does not fit daily life.
- Separate forecast from recommendation. A designer survey signals professional interest; it does not establish that a trend will suit your home or retain value.
