13 Most Expensive Hotels in New York City: What the Evidence Shows

The available evidence does not establish a ranked top 13. Here are six documented luxury hotels, the dated MICHELIN price claims, and a fair method for comparing rates.

There is no verified, apples-to-apples ranking of the 13 most expensive hotels in New York City in the available evidence. The strongest documented price claims are the MICHELIN Guide’s May 11, 2026 report that Aman New York cost more than $3,000 per night at the time, and its estimate that The Mark’s Grand Penthouse cost about $75,000 per night. Those are dated editorial figures—not current quotes—and they describe different kinds of stays.

Below are six high-end properties with documented distinctions, plus a practical way to compare their rates. They are not presented in price order, and the available sources do not support adding seven more hotels simply to reach 13.

Why this is not a definitive ranking of 13 hotels

“Most expensive” can mean the highest entry-room rate, the priciest bookable suite, or a broader judgment that weighs service and amenities. Those measures can produce different lists. The available sources do not provide comparable rates for 13 hotels for the same dates, occupancy, room category, cancellation terms, and inclusions.

The MICHELIN Guide’s May 11, 2026 article, The Most Luxurious Hotels in New York City, is an editorial guide to luxury—not a controlled price table. Its featured hotels are useful candidates for a high-end shortlist, but its selections should not be read as a ranked top 13.

New York City hotels with documented luxury features

These six properties are supported by the available sources. The descriptions identify what sets each apart; they do not imply a relative price order.

Aman New York

In its May 11, 2026 article, MICHELIN called Aman New York the city’s most expensive hotel “at the time of writing,” reporting a rate of over $3,000 per night. This is a dated editorial claim, not a live quote or a guaranteed minimum rate. The hotel occupies the landmark Crown Building at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. MICHELIN highlights minimalist suites, an indoor 20-meter pool, and a three-level spa.

The Mark Hotel

MICHELIN reports that The Mark’s Grand Penthouse costs “some $75,000 a night.” The figure is approximate and editorial; it does not establish availability or a rate for particular dates. The Upper East Side hotel’s penthouse features a rooftop terrace, and MICHELIN mentions an optional sailboat outing.

The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel

This Upper East Side Art Deco landmark is noted by MICHELIN for refreshed rooms and suites, its Valmont spa, and Bemelmans Bar. The available source does not state a comparable nightly rate.

Casa Cipriani

At Manhattan’s southern tip, Casa Cipriani combines a hotel and members’ club in the Battery Maritime Building. MICHELIN describes the Bartholdi Presidential Suite combination as a 3,000-square-foot residence, alongside a 15,000-square-foot spa and guest access to the club. These details describe scale and access, not a comparable room price.

The St. Regis New York

The official Marriott hotel page places The St. Regis at Fifth Avenue and 55th Street and describes its suites and Butler Service. It also says the hotel house car offers limited complimentary drop-offs within a ten-block radius, subject to availability. Confirm current service terms with the hotel.

Mandarin Oriental, New York

The official hotel page gives the address as 80 Columbus Circle and locates the property on the southwest corner of Central Park, on the upper floors of Deutsche Bank Center. It highlights park and skyline views and identifies accessible rooms and facilities. The source does not provide a price comparable with the figures above.

How to compare hotel prices fairly

Before treating any list as a price ranking, check what its price actually measures. A penthouse quote cannot stand in for a hotel’s entry-room rate, and a rate from one set of dates cannot establish which hotel is generally most expensive.

  1. Match the stay: compare the same dates, length of stay, guest count, and room category.
  2. Separate room types: keep entry-room rates distinct from named suite rates and advertised suite ceilings.
  3. Compare full terms: check cancellation conditions, included benefits, taxes, and mandatory fees.
  4. Confirm availability: verify the rate and room directly for the dates being considered; a published figure may not be bookable.
  5. State the ranking method: say whether a list ranks entry-room prices, suite prices, or a blended editorial assessment.

What the published price claims do—and do not—show

MICHELIN’s May 2026 article also says that one suite goes for $100,000 a night, but the reviewed passage does not identify the suite in that opening claim. It should not be assigned to a named hotel without confirmation from that hotel’s current suite information. The same article’s Aman and Mark figures remain specific editorial claims, not a same-date comparison across properties.

The Waldorf Astoria New York appeared in search results, but the available evidence does not establish its suite rates or a position in a current price ranking. The same standard applies to any other hotel: include it in a price list only when its rate can be checked on a comparable basis.
