10 Used Electric SUVs to Consider for Value (With Reliability Caveats)

A cautious shortlist of used electric SUVs and one hatchback alternative, with dated U.S. price evidence and practical checks for reliability, battery warranty, range, charging, and recalls.

There are used electric SUVs with comparatively accessible published price estimates, but the available evidence does not establish ten “notoriously reliable” models. Reliability can differ by model year, and the prices below are guide estimates or dated study averages—not live local offers. Use this as a shortlist to investigate, not a reliability ranking.

What the price evidence can—and cannot—tell you

Two sources offer useful but different snapshots of U.S. used-EV pricing. Edmunds’ 2026 guide, distributed by The Associated Press, gives approximate average prices for specified model-year groups. iSeeCars compared asking prices for 1- to 5-year-old used vehicles in September 2025 and January 2026. Neither figure guarantees what a particular vehicle costs near you today, and neither is a measure of reliability.

Vehicle Published price evidence Details relevant to a buyer
Chevrolet Bolt EV About $18,000 average for 2021–2023 Bolt EV and Bolt EUV vehicles in Edmunds’ 2026 guide, distributed by The Associated Press. The figure is combined; a separate Bolt EV price was not stated. The Bolt EV is a hatchback rather than an SUV. Its new-vehicle EPA range estimate was up to 259 miles, and the guide says home charging suits Bolt shoppers better than reliance on slow public charging.
Chevrolet Bolt EUV About $18,000 average for 2021–2023 Bolt EV and Bolt EUV vehicles in Edmunds’ 2026 guide, distributed by The Associated Press. The figure is combined; a separate EUV price was not stated. The EUV is the crossover-style option in the Bolt pair. The guide gives a new-vehicle EPA range estimate of up to 247 miles and cautions that public charging can be slow.
Hyundai Kona Electric About $19,000 average for 2022–2024 vehicles in Edmunds’ 2026 guide. In iSeeCars’ study of 1- to 5-year-old used vehicles, the average asking price was $21,020 in September 2025 and $19,678 in January 2026, a 6.4% decrease. Edmunds identifies 2022–2023 as a value focus and notes that the Kona was redesigned for 2024; compare the exact year and configuration.
Volkswagen ID.4 In iSeeCars’ study of 1- to 5-year-old used vehicles, the average asking price was $23,307 in September 2025 and $21,860 in January 2026, a 6.2% decrease. Consumer Reports’ surfaced 2025 reliability page gives a year-specific assessment. That does not establish reliability for other model years.
Kia Niro EV In iSeeCars’ study of 1- to 5-year-old used vehicles, the average asking price was $21,128 in September 2025 and $20,024 in January 2026, a 5.2% decrease. The cited price data does not establish a model-year-specific reliability result.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 About $25,000 average for 2022–2024 vehicles in Edmunds’ 2026 guide. Edmunds describes it as comfortable and quick-charging. Its guide lists 220 miles for the Standard Range version and up to 303 miles for a single-motor version; range depends on configuration.
Ford Mustang Mach-E In iSeeCars’ study of 1- to 5-year-old used vehicles, the average asking price was $30,575 in September 2025 and $29,014 in January 2026, a 5.1% decrease. The study’s average is not a quote for a particular model year, trim, or local listing.
Tesla Model Y In iSeeCars’ study of 1- to 5-year-old used vehicles, the average asking price was $29,603 in September 2025 and $29,989 in January 2026, a 1.3% increase. The study’s figure moved upward over those two periods; it is not evidence of what a Model Y costs now.
Audi e-tron About $34,000 average for 2022–2024 Audi e-tron/Q8 e-tron vehicles in Edmunds’ 2026 guide. A separate e-tron price was not stated. Edmunds gives the 2023 e-tron a new-vehicle EPA range estimate of 226 miles.
Audi Q8 e-tron About $34,000 average for 2022–2024 Audi e-tron/Q8 e-tron vehicles in Edmunds’ 2026 guide. A separate Q8 e-tron price was not stated. Edmunds gives the 2024 Q8 e-tron a new-vehicle EPA range estimate of 285 miles.

The iSeeCars study analyzed asking prices for more than 1.7 million 1- to 5-year-old used cars and more than 4 million new cars sold in September 2025 and January 2026. Across used EVs in its comparison, the average rose from $29,637 to $30,666, a 3.5% increase. Excluding Tesla and Porsche Taycan, the average for the other used EVs fell from $24,629 to $23,738, a 3.6% decrease. These are averages for those study periods and selection rules, not current quotes or a forecast for an individual vehicle.

The ten entries include the Bolt EV because Edmunds reports a combined Bolt EV/EUV price. It is a hatchback, not an SUV; the Bolt EUV is the crossover-style choice. Treat the Bolt EV as an adjacent budget alternative rather than an SUV.

Which models deserve a closer look?

Chevrolet Bolt EUV: a lower-price candidate if you can charge at home

The combined Bolt EV/EUV estimate makes this pair one of the lower-price starting points in the cited guide, but it cannot tell you the EUV’s separate average. Edmunds says the Bolt is best suited to shoppers with home charging and cautions that public charging can be slow. If you are considering the Bolt EV as well, remember that it is the hatchback, not the crossover.

Hyundai Kona Electric: compare pre- and post-redesign years carefully

The cited guide singles out 2022–2023 as a value focus and notes a redesign for 2024. The separate iSeeCars averages also show the Kona Electric’s asking-price average falling between its September 2025 and January 2026 samples. Neither observation establishes that every Kona is a bargain or that one year is more reliable than another.

Volkswagen ID.4: use year-specific reliability evidence

iSeeCars recorded a lower average asking price in January 2026 than in September 2025 for its 1- to 5-year-old ID.4 sample. Consumer Reports’ surfaced 2025 ID.4 reliability page is specific to that year; it should not be generalized to other ID.4 model years. Check the exact vehicle’s history and condition rather than treating the model name as a reliability guarantee.

Kia Niro EV: an affordable-looking average is only a starting point

Its iSeeCars study average declined between the two sampled periods, but the available material does not establish a year-specific reliability assessment or a current asking price. Compare the actual vehicle’s range, charging setup, warranty status, and condition with alternatives in your area.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: weigh charging convenience against the purchase price

Edmunds’ guide points to comfort and quick charging, with materially different new-vehicle EPA range estimates across configurations. Verify which battery, motor, and trim a used listing has before comparing its range or price with another Ioniq 5.

Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y: don’t assume prices move together

In iSeeCars’ dated samples, the Mach-E average declined while the Model Y average rose. Those movements describe the study periods, not future depreciation. They are a reason to compare actual listings rather than assume all used electric SUVs are getting cheaper at the same pace.

Audi e-tron and Q8 e-tron: check the year and range trade-off

The Edmunds guide groups 2022–2024 e-tron and Q8 e-tron vehicles in one approximate average, so it does not support a separate price comparison between them. Its listed new-vehicle EPA estimates differ between the 2023 e-tron and 2024 Q8 e-tron. A higher estimate for a newer model does not tell you the used vehicle’s present-day range or battery condition.

How to judge reliability before you buy

“Reliable” is not a single rating that applies to every example of a model. Consumer Reports says its reliability histories draw on subscriber surveys and cover issues including electric motors and EV charging. Its surfaced 2025 Kona Electric and ID.4 pages report different year-specific assessments. The available information does not establish a ten-model reliability ranking or support extending a 2025 assessment to every year of either vehicle.

Consumer Reports buyer guidance suggests looking for a used EV that remains under its battery warranty and has depreciated enough to offer meaningful savings. Alex Knizek, director of auto test development at the Consumer Reports Auto Test Center, put it this way: “The sweet spot for a used EV is one that’s still under its battery warranty but that’s depreciated enough for significant savings compared to a new one.”

What to check before buying a used electric SUV

  1. Confirm the exact vehicle. Get the model year, VIN, trim, battery and motor configuration, and service records. Those details determine which reliability information and range estimates are relevant.
  2. Check warranty coverage by VIN. Ask for the remaining battery warranty and confirm its terms for that vehicle. Do not assume coverage remains simply because a model is relatively new.
  3. Ask for battery-condition information. Request any available battery-health report or diagnostic information. An EPA estimate describes a new vehicle’s rated range, not the current range of a used one.
  4. Compare range and charging for your routine. Check the configuration-specific range and charging capability, then consider whether your regular trips and access to charging make the vehicle workable. Edmunds specifically cautions that public charging can be slow for Bolt shoppers.
  5. Verify recall status using the VIN. Ask for recall-completion records and check open recalls with the relevant official recall lookup before purchase. A model-level article cannot establish whether a particular listing has completed required work.
  6. Assess home-charging feasibility. If you expect to charge at home, confirm the connector and your home electrical setup are compatible with the vehicle and charging equipment. A charger purchase alone does not establish that the home circuit can support it.
  7. Compare the whole purchase, not just the asking price. Put the vehicle’s condition, remaining warranty, range, charging needs, and passenger and cargo space alongside its price. A low price may come with less range or slower charging, and equipment can vary by configuration.

How to use these prices in a budget

Use the Edmunds/Associated Press guide figures and iSeeCars averages as reference points for narrowing a search, not as a target offer or a promise of savings. Before committing, compare current local vehicles of the same year and configuration, and account for the specific car’s condition and warranty. The iSeeCars study’s overall used-EV average increased while its average excluding Tesla and Porsche Taycan declined, so a market-wide claim that used EV prices are uniformly falling would be misleading.
