The ten firms below are a starting shortlist, not a verified ranking of who is best. They appeared in a March 2024 TechBullion article, whose order and company descriptions reflect that publication’s reporting. The right partner depends on whether you need concept design, engineering, a prototype, manufacturing-ready files, or support through production—and on what the firm can demonstrate for a project like yours.
What these firms are listed for
TechBullion’s March 11, 2024 article, “10 Best Product Design & Manufacturing Firms”, names the following providers in this order. The descriptions below are attributed to that article; they are not independent verification of current services, quality, availability, or fit.
| Firm | Services or focus described by TechBullion |
|---|---|
| MAKO Design + Invent | Industrial design, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering. |
| Outdesign Co. | Physical product design, prototyping, and development, including consumer products and plastic product design. |
| GIZMOSPRING | Product development, manufacturing, and sourcing, with a focus on beauty and wellness devices. |
| ManGo Product Design | Industrial design and engineering, prototyping, and production services, including medical product work. |
| Design 1st | Design strategy, engineering, manufacturing support, embedded software, and electronic design. |
| Prototype House | Product development from concept through production, packaging, and logistics. |
| Synectic Product Development | Medical-device work, manufacturing, assembly, and distribution. |
| LA NPDT | Design, prototyping, and manufacturing. |
| Pivot International | Technology design and manufacturing. |
| Kickr Design | Design, engineering, prototyping, and manufacturing. |
These are not like-for-like offerings. A listed ability to support manufacturing, for example, does not establish whether a firm builds products itself, coordinates outside factories, or transfers files to a manufacturer selected by the client. Confirm the specific scope directly before comparing proposals.
First decide what you need the firm to deliver
“Product design and manufacturing” can describe very different jobs. A product idea without drawings may need concept development and engineering; a working product that looks or feels wrong may need industrial design; and a design that factories cannot quote may need design-for-manufacturing work. A visual concept alone does not show that a product has been engineered, tested, or made ready to manufacture.

LA NPDT’s August 30, 2026 comparison offers a useful distinction between design studios and design-plus-engineering firms, but it is a provider’s own assessment and ranks LA NPDT first for its stated use case. Use its framework as a checklist, not a neutral verdict. It identifies firms including LA NPDT, Delve, and StudioRed as design-plus-engineering providers. Shopify’s 2025 guide also treats physical-product development separately from digital and software work, and describes some providers across design, engineering, prototyping, and manufacturing. Neither publication supplies an independently audited, comparable scorecard for the ten firms in this shortlist.
How to compare candidates before hiring
Match relevant shipped work to your product
Ask for examples of products that reached production and resemble yours in materials, mechanics, electronics, intended market, or manufacturing process. Concept imagery can show design direction, but it cannot by itself establish production experience. Ask what the firm did on each example and which parts were handled by other providers.
Rank #2
Get deliverables and milestones in writing
Request a project plan that names the outputs at each stage: for example, industrial-design concepts, engineering drawings, CAD, prototypes, test results, manufacturing documentation, or production support. Ask what “prototype” means in the proposal and whether it is a visual model, a functional build, or a design intended to validate particular requirements. Clarify revision limits, approval points, change-request pricing, and what happens if a milestone is not met.
Clarify who does the work and what is outsourced
Ask who will perform industrial design, mechanical and electrical engineering, software, testing, and compliance work. Find out which prototyping and manufacturing processes are included, which are subcontracted, and who manages those suppliers. If the company proposes a factory, ask who selects it, who contracts with it, and what the handoff includes.

Check file ownership and factory readiness
Confirm in the contract who owns the CAD, source files, drawings, and other deliverables, and when you receive them. Ask whether the files are intended to be quote-ready for a manufacturer, which manufacturer or process they target, and what further engineering or documentation might be needed before production. Do not assume that paying for a design automatically transfers every relevant file or intellectual-property right; check the written terms.
Test the fit for your budget and risk
Ask what minimum engagement the firm accepts and whether its proposed scope fits your stage, timeline, and budget. Request a clear breakdown of included work, outside costs, and ongoing support. For a regulated or technically complex product, validate relevant engineering, quality-system, and regulatory experience directly. The 2024 shortlist includes medical-device service descriptions, but those descriptions do not independently establish certifications, regulatory performance, or suitability for a particular device.

What the published lists can—and cannot—tell you
The ten names and their sequence come from TechBullion’s March 2024 article; the sequence is not an independently validated ranking. Shopify’s 2025 guide provides another editorial view, while LA NPDT’s 2026 comparison provides a selection framework from a provider that discloses its commercial interest and self-ranking. Company-specific ratings, project counts, awards, patents, speed improvements, or other figures reported by these publishers are not a shared dataset and should not be treated as a fair cross-firm comparison.
Use the lists to identify possible candidates, then verify present services, relevant case studies, team responsibilities, costs, contract terms, and file ownership with each firm. The shortlist does not establish current pricing, capacity, referral terms, or the outcome your project would achieve.
