If resale value is high on your list, start with the 2026 Toyota Tacoma: Kelley Blue Book projects it will retain 63.0% of its value after five years, the strongest figure among the pickup models in KBB’s overall top ten. The 2026 Toyota Tundra, Ford Maverick and Ford Ranger also make that list. These are estimates, not guaranteed resale prices, and the best choice still depends on the truck’s size, capability and purchase cost.
Which pickup trucks hold their value best?
Kelley Blue Book’s 2026 Best Resale Value awards provide a current U.S. comparison based on projected five-year residual value as a percentage of original MSRP. The four pickups in KBB’s overall top ten are listed below. The percentages are projections, not promises about what a particular truck will sell for.
| Truck | KBB 2026 projected five-year value retained | KBB pickup category recognition |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 Toyota Tacoma | 63.0% | Midsize pickup winner |
| 2026 Toyota Tundra | 59.9% | Full-size pickup winner |
| 2026 Ford Maverick | 54.1% | Compact pickup winner |
| 2026 Ford Ranger | 53.4% | Not listed as a KBB category winner |
In KBB’s 2026 awards-page comparison, the average new vehicle is projected to be worth 44.7% of its original sticker price after 60 months. That is a broad average, not a forecast for every truck. KBB’s 2026 overall rankings and award announcement identify the models and category winners.
Four more trucks to consider by class and use
A “top ten” list can be useful as a shortlist, but the available figures do not support a single apples-to-apples ranking of ten trucks. The additional candidates below come from a separate U.S. dataset or a Canadian award list, so their figures and recognition should not be mixed into KBB’s table as if they were measured the same way.

Toyota Tacoma: a midsize option
iSeeCars estimates a five-year resale value of 80.5% for the Toyota Tacoma and identifies it as its midsize leader. This is a different estimate from KBB’s 63.0% projection for the 2026 Tacoma; the sources use different data and methods. Treat the iSeeCars figure as a separate reference, not a correction or an amount to average with KBB’s result.
Toyota Tundra: a full-size option
iSeeCars estimates the Tundra at 80.3% after five years and identifies it as its full-size leader. KBB’s separate 2026 projection is 59.9%. That gap illustrates why a resale percentage needs its source attached: the estimates are not directly interchangeable.
Rank #2
- Detailed 283 V-8 engine with optional engine parts and disc brakes
- Chrome reversed wheels with moon hubcaps and whitewall tires or five spoke mag wheels with low profile tires
- Chrome plated parts and black vinyl tires
- Decals with stock or optional custom graphics
- Includes illustrated instructions
Ford Maverick: a compact option
iSeeCars estimates a five-year resale value of 68.2% for the Maverick and names it the small/compact leader. KBB’s 2026 projection is 54.1%. The Maverick belongs to the compact class, so compare its utility and price with other compact pickups rather than assuming it substitutes for a midsize or full-size truck.
Ram 3500: a heavy-duty option
iSeeCars estimates the Ram 3500’s five-year resale value at 79.8% and identifies it as its heavy-duty leader. The same results put the Ford F-350 Super Duty close at 79.6%; the Ford F-250 Super Duty is listed at 75.7% and Ram 2500 at 74.9%. These are heavy-duty results from iSeeCars, not KBB figures, and heavy-duty trucks serve different work needs and price points from compact, midsize and full-size pickups.

Chevrolet Colorado: Canadian award context
In Canadian Black Book’s 2025 Small/Mid Pickup category, the Chevrolet Colorado ranked third, behind the Tacoma and Maverick. This is Canadian retained-value award context, not a U.S. resale percentage, so use it as a regional signal rather than a directly comparable estimate.

KBB says its annual awards use projected five-year residual values as a share of original MSRP. Its analysts review statistical models based on millions of transactions. The award assumptions include projected future auction values for vehicles in average condition with 75,000 miles at the end of five years. The resulting percentage is a model-level forecast under those assumptions, not an offer for a specific truck. See KBB’s explanation of its methodology.

iSeeCars says its 2026 truck ranking analyzes more than 3 million vehicles and compares new MSRP with the price of an equivalent five-year-old used vehicle. Its higher Tacoma and Tundra estimates reflect a different dataset and methodology from KBB’s projections. Neither number should be presented as the one definitive value a buyer or seller will receive. See iSeeCars’ truck resale-value results.
Market conditions also matter. KBB notes that supply and demand, current and projected market conditions, discounting and buyer interest can affect resale. A specific truck’s mileage and condition matter as well. KBB’s brand-level statement that Toyota holds its top spot for Best Resale Value Brand for the sixth consecutive year is context, not proof that every Toyota truck will outperform every competitor.
Quick Recap
How to choose a truck when resale matters
- Set the work and size requirement first. Decide whether a compact, midsize, full-size or heavy-duty truck fits your hauling, towing and everyday-use needs. The resale figures above do not establish that a truck from one class can replace a truck from another.
- Compare within the class. Use the relevant award or estimate as one input. Keep the source, model year and market attached to the percentage; do not combine KBB, iSeeCars and Canadian Black Book results into one ranking.
- Price the exact configuration. Cab and bed layout, trim, powertrain, purchase price and local availability affect whether a particular deal makes sense. A high projected residual does not automatically make an expensive or unsuitable configuration a good buy.
- Match the holding period to the forecast. These figures describe a five-year horizon. If you expect to sell sooner or keep the truck longer, the cited five-year estimates do not directly answer what your vehicle will be worth at that point.
- Recheck the specific vehicle’s value near the sale. A forecast cannot account for every future market shift or an individual truck’s condition and mileage. Use a current valuation for the truck’s actual year, trim, mileage and condition when making a selling or trade-in decision.
