The highest documented auction result among the Nintendo games covered here is Super Mario Bros. at $3 million—but that price belongs to one exceptionally rare, sealed and graded copy, not to the game in general. The list below ranks ten distinct titles by the highest results identified in the cited Heritage Auctions records and related reporting. These are notable auction records, not a census of every auction house or private transaction.
The 10 most valuable Nintendo games by documented auction result
Each figure refers to a particular copy and sale. The records are drawn from Heritage Auctions’ Video Games Hall of Fame, CGC’s report on Heritage’s May 2025 auction, and a specialist compilation for one Nintendo 64 result. Where a source reports the grade, packaging or production variant, it is included below. The CGC prices include buyer’s premium; the available details do not establish that every other figure uses the same price convention.

- Super Mario Bros. — $3,000,000. Heritage reports that a sealed PSA 9.6 A++ earliest edition from the second-production run sold on June 12, 2026. Heritage described it as one of three known sealed copies from that run. The auction result surpassed the $2 million private-sale record Heritage cited; that earlier private sale was a different transaction, not an auction result. Heritage’s June 17, 2026 report includes the account and a quote from its Consignment Director for Video Games, Evan Masingill.
- Super Mario 64 — $1,560,000. Heritage records a sealed Nintendo 64 copy graded Wata 9.8 A++, sold July 11, 2021.
- The Legend of Zelda — $870,000. Heritage records a sealed, early-production NES copy graded Wata 9.0 A, sold July 11, 2021.
- Mario Bros. — $450,000. Heritage records a sealed, first-production NES copy graded PSA 9.2 A++, sold August 29, 2026. This is the original Mario Bros., not Super Mario Bros..
- Super Mario World — $360,000. Heritage records a sealed SNES copy graded Wata 9.4 A+, sold July 11, 2021.
- Super Mario Bros. 2 — $324,000. Heritage records a sealed, first-production NES copy graded Wata 9.8 A+, sold October 31, 2021.
- Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! — $312,000. Heritage records a sealed NES copy graded Wata 9.8 A++, sold October 31, 2021.
- Mario Kart 64 — $144,000. What The Slab’s June 2026 Nintendo 64 compilation identifies a sealed Wata 9.6 A++ copy as the highest representative Heritage result in its ranking. This entry comes from a third-party compilation, rather than Heritage’s hall-of-fame list. What The Slab’s ranking states that its data was current as of May 22, 2026.
- Pokémon Blue Version — $106,250. CGC reports that a sealed, first-production Game Boy copy graded CGC 9.8 A++ sold in Heritage’s May 24, 2025 auction. CGC says the first-production box can be identified by a back-cover misprint that calls the game Pokémon Red Version. The reported price includes buyer’s premium.
- Super Mario Bros. 3 — $100,000. CGC reports that a sealed NES copy graded CGC 9.6 A+ sold in the same May 24, 2025 Heritage auction. The reported price includes buyer’s premium.
The first eight titles appear in Heritage’s hall of fame; CGC’s report supplies the final two results. The sources are not a single harmonized database of all sales, and the third-party Mario Kart 64 entry has its own stated methodology. The order is therefore best read as a ranking of the highest distinct-title results identified in these records, not a definitive all-market ranking. A higher unreviewed sale may exist.
Why a record price does not tell you what your game is worth
An auction record applies to the specific collectible that sold, not automatically to every copy bearing the same title. In these examples, several record prices are for sealed games with high grades, and some records specifically identify production runs or packaging details. Heritage’s Evan Masingill said collectors place a premium on “condition and print run.” That helps explain why two copies of the same game can be treated very differently by collectors.
#1 Best Overall
- New stages and fighters are joined by the combined rosters of every past Super Smash Bros. Game
- Challenge others anytime, anywhere, whether you're on the couch or on the go
- Play any way you want—locally, online, in TV mode, Tabletop mode, Handheld mode, or even with GameCube Controllers
- Fight faster and smarter with new and returning techniques, like the perfect shield and directional air dodge
- Face off in 2-4 player battles, or play against the computer
These are selective auction results and grading-company reporting, not appraisals of ordinary loose, opened or ungraded games. The cited records do not establish a typical resale price for a personal collection. A sealed, graded copy’s auction result should not be used as a price estimate for a played copy.

A title and headline price alone omit details that can change what is being compared. For a more meaningful comparison, check:
Rank #2
- A variety of playable characters are available, some with unique attributes that affect gameplay and platforming physics.
- Younger and less-experienced players will love playing as Toadette, who is brand new to both games, and Nabbit, who was formerly only playable in New Super Luigi U. Both characters offer extra assistance during play.
- Multiplayer sessions are even more fun, frantic, and exciting thanks to entertaining character interactions. Need a boost? Try jumping off a teammate’s head or getting a teammate to throw you.
- Features a wealth of help features, like a Hints gallery, reference videos, and a Super Guide in New Super Mario Bros. U that can complete levels for you if they’re giving you trouble.
- Three additional modes—Boost Rush, Challenges, and Coin Battle—mix up gameplay and add replayability, while also upping the difficulty for players who want to try something harder. Players can use their Mii characters in these modes.
- Platform and region: Confirm the console version and, where available, the market or region the copy was made for.
- Production or packaging variant: Look for documented run, edition or packaging details. CGC, for example, identifies the first-production Pokémon Blue Version by a box misprint.
- Completeness and seal: A sealed copy is not equivalent to a loose cartridge or a complete-in-box copy that has been opened.
- Grading service and grade: Record the grading company and the full grade notation, rather than treating all high-grade labels as interchangeable.
- Venue and sale date: A result from one auction house on one date is not necessarily a current market price.
- Price basis: Check whether the reported amount includes the buyer’s premium. CGC explicitly says the prices in its May 2025 Heritage report do.
Public auction results and private sales are also different kinds of evidence. Heritage’s June 2026 report describes the earlier $2 million Super Mario Bros. transaction as a private sale, while its $3 million result was an auction. They should not be silently combined into one auction-price series.
