That distinction matters because an eBay asking price is not a sale price. A 2019 ComicBook.com report compared listings with sold results and found that most Disney tapes it examined—including original The Little Mermaid copies—sold for $1.50 to $35. The striking gap between the reported $5,000 ceiling and the much higher Cars and Beauty and the Beast claims is unresolved. The available evidence does not confirm whether the high figures reflect completed transactions, comparable editions, grading, or other conditions. They should not be presented as proven eBay records.
Are Disney Black Diamond VHS tapes worth money?
The Black Diamond label alone does not establish rarity or value. It identifies a Disney VHS series described by Inside the Magic as spanning 1984–1994; the mark appears on the spine of the case. A tape’s title, edition, condition, completeness, and demonstrated sale prices matter more than the label by itself. - Search for the exact item. Match the film and release edition, not just “Disney VHS.” Note whether the listing describes a sealed or used copy and whether it has a professional grade.
- Filter for completed or sold listings. Active listings show what a seller hopes to receive, not what buyers have paid. Do not treat an asking price as a comparable sale.
- Compare condition and completeness. A sealed tape, an opened tape, and a full collection are different items. Compare the same title, edition, and condition where possible.
- Check the sale details. Record the transaction date and currency, and confirm that the result is for the item itself rather than a bundle or a different release.
- Use several comparable results. A single exceptional result, especially one that cannot be traced to a completed transaction, is not a dependable estimate of what another copy will sell for.
For the figures discussed here, ComicBook.com’s 2019 examples and Inside the Magic’s January 2026 listing analysis provide context, but neither supplies independently confirmed primary eBay transaction records for a definitive top-ten list.
