10 Harley-Davidson Models to Research for Resale Value

A model name alone cannot prove resale-value strength. Use this Harley-Davidson shortlist to compare exact years, configurations, valuation guides and local listings.

No reliable model-by-model resale-retention figures establish that any ten Harley-Davidson models hold value better than the rest. The models below are a practical shortlist to investigate—not a proven ranking. A bike’s year, trim, options, condition, mileage, maintenance and local market all affect what it may sell for, so use valuation guides and comparable listings before treating resale value as a buying or selling decision.

What this shortlist can—and cannot—tell you

J.D. Power’s Harley-Davidson valuation guide lets shoppers select a model year and model, and its index includes the models below. That confirms they can be researched in the guide; it does not show that they outperform other Harleys in resale retention. The available sources do not provide comparable depreciation rates or realized sale prices for ten models.

Use the list as a starting point for checking a specific bike. A fair comparison needs the same model year, a clear trim and factory-option match, a consistent valuation method and date, and a defined market. Asking prices are not completed-sale prices, and neither is automatically the amount a seller will receive.

These are candidates for valuation research, not an ordered ranking of the strongest retainers. Confirm the exact year and configuration before comparing prices.

  1. Fat Boy: Check the specific year and factory configuration in a valuation guide, then compare local examples of the same year.
  2. Heritage Classic: Keep model year and factory options consistent when comparing guide values or listings.
  3. Street Glide: Compare the exact year and configuration; touring-bike mileage should be judged alongside condition and service history.
  4. Road Glide: Use same-year, same-configuration comparisons rather than assuming its name alone predicts resale performance.
  5. Street Bob: Check for modifications and distinguish factory equipment from later changes when reviewing comparables.
  6. Breakout: Compare like-for-like model years and options; local asking prices are evidence of seller expectations, not confirmed sale values.
  7. Super Glide: Verify the year in the valuation tool and check whether comparable local listings are sufficiently similar.
  8. Low Rider S: Match the year and factory specification, and account for condition, mileage and any modifications.
  9. Low Rider ST: Compare against the same year and configuration; do not treat guide estimates as guaranteed transaction prices.
  10. Another exact-year candidate: If one of these models is unavailable in your target year, choose another model listed in the valuation guide and apply the same comparison method rather than assuming it retains value better.

J.D. Power’s guide also notes that transmission, clutch, electronics, engine options, brakes and sidecars can affect value. Its note cautions that values for pre-1920 motorcycles may rely on limited pricing data.

How to estimate a Harley-Davidson’s resale value

  1. Identify the bike precisely. Record model year, model, trim, factory options and odometer reading. A model name without these details is not a useful comparison.
  2. Check valuation guides. Select the year and model in J.D. Power’s motorcycle valuation guide. Where the year is covered, cross-check Kelley Blue Book’s Harley-Davidson values. KBB’s listed Harley coverage runs from 1989 through 2024, so it does not provide a current-through-2026 comparison. Treat guide estimates as reference points, not promised sale prices.
  3. Compare local listings. Use H-D1 Marketplace to browse used inventory by model, location and model year. Keep asking prices labeled as asking prices, and favor listings that match the bike’s year and configuration.
  4. Assess condition and history. Review maintenance records, storage, use, modifications and damage. Harley-Davidson advises that a well-maintained higher-mileage bike can be a better prospect than a low-mileage motorcycle showing neglect.
  5. Get a transaction estimate if needed. Harley-Davidson’s valuation flow requests mileage and contact/location details for an instant third-party estimate. Treat it as an additional estimate, not a guaranteed offer or completed-sale price.

How to interpret mileage and condition

There is no single mileage cutoff that makes a Harley “high mileage.” Harley-Davidson reports J.D. Power’s general estimate of 3,000 miles per year, while noting that it varies with motorcycle type, rider and location. The manufacturer says 20,000 to 30,000 miles may be considered high for sport motorcycles or dual-purpose motorcycles frequently ridden off pavement; for touring motorcycles, the figure may be 50,000 to 60,000 miles. These are context, not automatic price adjustments.

Harley-Davidson’s guidance emphasizes that mileage is only one factor and does not, by itself, establish mechanical condition. Look for service evidence and consider how the motorcycle was ridden and stored. A low odometer reading cannot make up for neglect, and a higher reading does not tell the whole story without the bike’s history.

What current market context says

J.D. Power’s Q1 2026 Powersports Market Insights report says used motorcycle values continued to rise, with strong demand particularly for well-maintained units in the two- to four-year age range. That is broad motorcycle-market context, not evidence that a particular Harley-Davidson model retains value better than another.

What would prove a model holds value better?

A defensible ranking would compare equivalent bikes using the same baseline and valuation method. For each model, the comparison should specify:

  • Model year, exact trim and factory options.
  • Original MSRP or another clearly defined starting price.
  • Current valuation and its date, using the same guide where possible.
  • Asking prices and completed sale prices as separate measures.
  • Mileage, condition, service history, modifications and damage.
  • Geography and season, because local inventory and prices can differ.

Without those comparable inputs, calling a model a proven resale-value leader—or assigning it a retention percentage—would overstate what the available figures establish.
