There is no verified universal ranking of the rarest PlayStation 1 games, and a title does not have one fixed price. A May 11, 2026 guide from position:everything lists ten notable collectibles with approximate values from about $20 to $500 or more. Those are editorial estimates—not verified completed-sale averages—and the value of your copy depends on its exact release, region, completeness, condition, and authenticity.

Ten collectible PS1 games and the guide’s estimated values

The figures below are the ranges reported by position:everything on May 11, 2026. The guide describes them as approximate collector-market ranges for commonly traded North American and Japanese releases. It does not provide a transaction sample, a calculation method, or a capture date for each estimate, so use them as rough orientation—not as confirmed sale prices or a guaranteed offer.

Game Approximate range reported by the guide What changes the estimate
Silent Hill About $60–$250 Region, completeness, and disc condition
Resident Evil 2 About $40–$220 Edition and condition; exceptional complete copies may be higher
Tekken 3 About $20–$180 Completeness and disc condition
Gran Turismo 2 About $30–$170 The stated range is for complete-in-box copies with discs in strong condition; disc-only copies are usually lower
Parasite Eve About $60–$250 Region and condition
Chrono Cross About $70–$300 The stated range is for complete-in-box copies in good condition; exceptional copies may exceed it
The King of Fighters ’98: Dream Match Never Ends About $150–$500 Region, version, and condition
Mega Man Legends About $60–$300 The guide’s range concerns strong complete copies; disc-only copies are usually lower
Resident Evil (original PS1) About $50–$250 Version, completeness, and disc condition
PowerSlave / other limited-run late-era imports About $80–$400+ Exact edition, region, and condition

A separate 2026 overview from used-game retailer Play Then Sell gives broad market categories: common titles at $10–$25, popular franchises at $25–$60, and hard-to-find or cult classics at $60–$150 or more. These are general retailer guideposts, not prices for the ten specific games above or a title-by-title sales dataset.

Why “rarest” does not mean “most expensive”

Rarity can mean a small original production run, limited or regional distribution, or simply that fewer copies remain in desirable condition with their original packaging. A sought-after game may command a high price because collectors want it, even when its production quantity is unknown. Conversely, age alone does not establish scarcity or value.

The ten-game selection is best treated as a guide to notable collectibles, not an objective top-ten ranking. Neither the position:everything guide nor Play Then Sell establishes a universal ranking based on production counts or a reproducible rarity score. Play Then Sell’s separate list includes other collector-interest titles such as Suikoden II, Valkyrie Profile, Tomba!, and Misadventures of Tron Bonne, illustrating how lists vary by selection and market.

How to estimate what your copy is worth

  1. Identify the exact release. Determine whether the game is NTSC-U (North America), PAL, or NTSC-J (Japan). Check the title and edition, catalog or serial details, disc label, and case rather than relying only on a seller’s listing title.
  2. Record what is included. Note whether the copy is sealed, complete in box (CIB), includes the manual and other inserts, or is disc-only. Do not compare an incomplete copy with a complete example as though they were equivalent.
  3. Assess condition and authenticity. Inspect the disc, label, case, manual, and inserts. Check that the components match the release, and examine disc matrix or runout details where appropriate. For a high-priced purchase, verify the edition and the seller’s return terms before relying on a listing description.
  4. Compare recent completed sales. Look for sold copies of the same version and similar completeness and condition. Exclude bundles and exceptional outliers, and keep sealed, CIB, manual-included, and disc-only copies in separate groups. The position:everything guide recommends using the median of comparable recent sold listings as an estimate; that is a suggested workflow, not a tested pricing rule.

Asking prices show what sellers hope to receive, not what buyers have paid. The closer the match on region, edition, included materials, and condition, the more useful a comparison will be. Broad price bands are a starting point; a specific copy needs specific comparables.

What most affects a PS1 game’s value

  • Region and edition: NTSC-U, PAL, and NTSC-J releases can have different availability and collector demand. Variants or exact editions may also matter.
  • Completeness: A sealed copy, a complete-in-box copy, a copy with only the manual, and a loose disc are different products and should be priced separately.
  • Condition: Disc wear and the state of the case, label, and inserts can move a copy away from the guide’s broad range.
  • Authenticity and matching components: Confirm that the disc, case, and inserts correspond to the claimed release, especially when the price is high.
  • Market evidence: Recent completed sales for comparable copies are more informative than a high unsold asking price or a general claim that a game is rare.
