In a U.S. market snapshot dated September 30, 2026, the Nissan LEAF S+ and Chevrolet Equinox EV LT1 FWD stand out for pairing relatively low listed starting prices with long EPA-estimated range. The Chevrolet Bolt LT is the least expensive of these ten at $27,600, while the Tesla Model 3 Standard has the longest listed range at 321 miles. Those figures are trim-specific starting-price and EPA-range listings—not guaranteed transaction prices or promises of real-world distance.

How to read the price and range comparison

The table uses ElectricCompare’s September 30, 2026 snapshot of new battery-electric vehicles on sale in the United States. It ranks vehicles by starting MSRP, and its range column reports EPA miles. All ten price-and-range pairs below come from that one comparison source; they are not ten independently verified manufacturer quotations. Starting MSRP is not the amount every buyer will pay: destination charges, taxes, dealer discounts, financing, and buyer-specific incentives can change the final cost.

The “rough MSRP per EPA mile” column is calculated by dividing the listed starting MSRP by the listed EPA range. A lower figure means more EPA-estimated miles per dollar of starting MSRP in this narrow comparison. It does not account for incentives, electricity costs, efficiency, insurance, resale value, charging time, ownership costs, or differences in vehicle size and capability. It is a screening aid, not a verdict on which EV is best.

Model and listed trim Starting MSRP EPA range Rough MSRP per EPA mile What to notice
Chevrolet Bolt LT $27,600 262 mi About $105 Lowest listed starting price among these ten.
Kia EV3 Light FWD $29,890 221 mi About $135 Near $30,000, but shorter listed range than several costlier entries.
Nissan LEAF S+ $29,990 303 mi About $99 Strong listed price-and-range combination; Nissan separately announced the same MSRP and up to 303 miles for the 2026 LEAF.
Toyota bZ XLE FWD $34,980 236 mi About $148 Crossover format, with less listed range per starting-price dollar than several entries.
Chevrolet Equinox EV LT1 FWD $34,995 319 mi About $110 Long listed range at a mainstream crossover starting price.
Subaru Uncharted Premium FWD $34,995 308 mi About $114 Crossover with a high listed range relative to its starting price.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE Standard Range $35,250 245 mi About $144 Standard-range trim; other Ioniq 5 versions may differ.
Fiat 500e Pop $35,700 149 mi About $240 City-focused short-range option, not an equal road-trip substitute for the longest-range entries.
Tesla Model 3 Standard $36,990 321 mi About $115 Longest listed range in this group; sedan rather than crossover.
Toyota C-HR SE AWD $37,080 287 mi About $129 All-wheel-drive crossover; weigh drivetrain needs against its price and listed range.

Which models look strongest for price and range?

Nissan LEAF S+: the standout listed range-per-price value

At $29,990 and 303 EPA miles in the September 2026 comparison, the LEAF S+ has the lowest rough MSRP-per-EPA-mile figure in this group. Nissan’s August 19, 2025 announcement independently gives a $29,990 U.S. MSRP for the 2026 LEAF S+ and says the LEAF offers up to 303 miles. The company also says the 2026 model is NACS-compatible and can access more than 20,000 Tesla Superchargers; check current network access terms and compatibility details before relying on that claim for a route.

The comparison’s 303-mile figure is a trim-specific estimate, not a guarantee for every LEAF configuration or driving condition. As with any model, compare the exact vehicle’s EPA label and equipment before purchase.

Chevrolet Equinox EV LT1 FWD: a long-range crossover entry

The listed $34,995 starting MSRP and 319-mile EPA range make the Equinox EV LT1 FWD a notable option for shoppers who want a crossover and prioritize range. The figures here are from the 2026 third-party snapshot. For context only, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center lists the model-year 2025 Equinox EV FWD at 319 miles and a $33,600 base MSRP. Those are different model-year figures and should not be substituted for the 2026 snapshot.

Chevrolet Bolt LT: the lowest starting price in this group

The Bolt LT is listed at $27,600 with 262 EPA miles, the lowest starting price among these ten. Its lower price may matter more than maximum range for buyers whose regular trips are short and who can charge conveniently. Its range is not the highest in the list, so consider typical trip length and charging access rather than price alone.

  • Safety Assurance: Winado 12V electric truck is made of safe materials, complies with ASTM, CPSIA, and CPSC certifications, and is equipped with seat belts. It is suitable for children under 1.1 meters in height, so parents can use it with confidence

Tesla Model 3 Standard: the longest listed range

The Model 3 Standard’s 321 miles is the longest EPA figure in this comparison, at a listed starting MSRP of $36,990. It is a sedan, so it may suit a different mix of passenger, cargo, and driving needs than the crossover choices. Its high range does not make it automatically the best value for someone who needs a different body style or drivetrain.

Other options and their trade-offs

  • Subaru Uncharted Premium FWD: 308 miles at $34,995 gives it a strong listed range for its starting price among the crossovers.
  • Toyota C-HR SE AWD: 287 miles at $37,080 makes it the all-wheel-drive crossover in this group; assess whether AWD is worth the price and range trade-off for your use.
  • Kia EV3 Light FWD: At $29,890, it is close to $30,000, but its listed 221-mile range is below several more expensive alternatives.
  • Toyota bZ XLE FWD: The $34,980 crossover has a listed 236-mile range, so it is less compelling on this simple range-per-price measure than several entries.
  • Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE Standard Range: Its $35,250 price and 245-mile estimate apply to this specific standard-range trim; do not assume figures for longer-range versions.
  • Fiat 500e Pop: The 149-mile estimate makes it best considered as a short-trip or city-oriented option, not a like-for-like alternative for frequent long drives. DOE’s model-year 2025 table lists the Fiat 500e at 141–149 miles and $32,500; those historical figures are not the 2026 snapshot’s $35,700 and 149 miles.

How much faith should you put in an EPA range estimate?

EPA range is a standardized estimate for comparing vehicles, not a forecast of the exact distance a driver will cover. Actual range varies with speed, temperature, route, terrain, driving style, cabin heating or cooling, and vehicle configuration. The listed range should be checked for the precise trim and wheels you are considering.

The EPA’s 2025 Automotive Trends Report says the average range of new battery-electric vehicles in model year 2024 was 292 miles, almost four times the 2011 average. That fleetwide historical average is useful context, but it is not a target every buyer needs or a prediction for any one vehicle.

Real-world tests can differ from EPA estimates without invalidating the rating. In an AP News report on standardized Edmunds testing, the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt’s 262-mile EPA estimate was compared with a 290-mile test result, while the 2026 LEAF’s 303-mile maximum was compared with 310 miles. These are outcomes from that reported test, not a universal adjustment to apply to EPA figures.

How to choose based on your own budget and driving

  1. Set a realistic purchase budget. Treat MSRP as a starting comparison, then ask dealers for an out-the-door quote that includes destination charges, taxes, fees, and any discounts. Check incentives separately because eligibility and availability depend on the buyer and circumstances.
  2. Estimate the range you actually need. Start with your usual daily mileage and the longest recurring trip, then leave a margin for weather, speed, and detours. Paying for maximum range may not be worthwhile if your driving and charging routine rarely uses it.
  3. Choose the vehicle shape and drivetrain before ranking ratios. Compare sedan, compact car, and crossover needs, along with passenger and cargo space and whether AWD matters where you drive. A lower price-per-mile ratio cannot tell you whether a vehicle fits your household.
  4. Check charging where you park and travel. Home charging can make routine use simpler, while renters or drivers without dedicated parking may depend more on public charging. Confirm connector compatibility, nearby station availability, and access terms for the routes you actually use.
  5. Verify the exact model year, trim, and EPA label. Range and price can change with battery, drivetrain, and wheel configuration. Compare current official trim information and the vehicle’s EPA label with the listing before committing.

Charging is part of the affordability calculation

A lower starting MSRP does not capture the full cost or convenience of ownership. If you plan to charge at home, a Level 2 charger may be useful, but it is not included in the vehicle prices above and is not required for every buyer. Check the vehicle’s compatibility and have a qualified professional assess whether your electrical setup can support installation. ENERGY STAR and EPA provide EV and certified-charger information at their electric vehicles and hybrids resource.
