Zoho’s Zia AI Push: What the LLM, Agent Studio and 2026 Pricing Mean for Businesses

Zoho’s 2025 Zia AI push combined proprietary models, speech recognition and business agents. Here is what launched, what exists in 2026 and what deployment can really cost.

Zoho’s July 17, 2025 announcement combined an in-house language-model family, English and Hindi speech recognition, business agents, a prompt-based builder, an agent marketplace and an MCP server. It was a platform-level move rather than another isolated AI feature. In 2026, however, the product is evolving: current Zia Agents documentation lists Zoho-hosted Qwen and GLM models, external-model connections and usage-based allowances that are not identical to the launch lineup.

For finance and IT decision-makers, the practical question is not whether Zoho has “its own AI.” It is how model choice, token usage, existing Zoho subscriptions, API permissions and data residency affect the total cost and risk of deploying an agent.

What Zoho announced on July 17, 2025

Zoho described four connected parts of its AI strategy in the launch announcement:

  • Zia LLM: separately trained 1.3-billion-, 2.6-billion- and 7-billion-parameter models aimed at structured-data extraction, summarization, retrieval-augmented generation, code generation and business-process assistance.
  • ASR models: English and Hindi speech-to-text models designed for low computer load.
  • Zia Agents and Agent Studio: prebuilt and custom agents for business workflows.
  • MCP server: an interoperability layer intended to expose Zoho actions to compatible third-party agents.

Zoho also cited more than 25 ready-to-deploy marketplace agents and more than 700 pre-integrated actions at launch. Those are launch-era figures, not a guarantee of today’s catalog. The announcement said the LLM rollout covered Zoho data centers in the United States, India and Europe and that larger 32B, 70B and 100B models were being trained; those larger models should be treated as roadmap statements unless Zoho confirms their release.

Announcement versus the current product

The 2025 announcement and the 2026 product documentation describe different snapshots:

When What is established
July 17, 2025 Zia LLM launch family (1.3B, 2.6B and 7B), English and Hindi ASR, Agent Studio, marketplace and MCP announcement.
2026 documentation Zia Agents supports prompt-based creation, Zoho-hosted Qwen 14B, Qwen 30B MoE, GLM 4.7 Flash and GLM 5, plus external models and BYOK. Availability varies by data center and account configuration.

Zoho’s current site advertises more than 100 prebuilt agents across an ecosystem of more than 60 applications. That number is not directly comparable with the 25-plus launch figure because the dates and definitions differ. Check the current platform details before assuming a model or feature shown in marketing is enabled for your account.

What Zia LLM is designed to do

Zoho positioned its launch models for focused business workloads rather than claiming that a small model replaces every frontier model. Right-sizing matters financially:

  • A smaller model can be adequate for extraction, classification or summarization and may reduce latency and inference consumption.
  • A larger model may handle longer context or more complicated multi-step reasoning better.
  • Parameter count alone does not establish accuracy, privacy or total cost. Retrieval design, prompts, tool calls, monitoring and human review can dominate an agent’s economics.

Zoho says it is building proprietary models and infrastructure, but the current service is not an all-Zoho model catalog. Its documentation lists Qwen and GLM models, OpenAI options and BYOK connections. The precise description is a mixed stack: proprietary development alongside hosted and customer-supplied third-party models.

What is known about the ASR models

The launch covered English and Hindi speech recognition and said additional languages were planned. Zoho claimed up to 75% better performance than comparable models on standard tests. That is a Zoho claim, not an independently verified accuracy result. The announcement does not establish the benchmark datasets, word-error-rate definition, accents, noise conditions, hardware or baselines needed to interpret “75% better.” Organizations with regulated call-recording or transcription needs should request those details and run representative evaluations.

How Agent Studio works

Current documentation describes two creation paths in Agent Studio and the agent-creation guide.

Create from scratch

  1. Set the agent’s name and description.
  2. Select a vendor and model.
  3. Define its role and instructions.
  4. Attach knowledge-base documents.
  5. Choose tools and tool groups.
  6. Configure authenticated connections, such as Zoho CRM or Zoho Desk.
  7. Apply guardrails, then test and deploy.

Create with Zia AI

Describe the desired agent in natural language. Zia proposes instructions, tools, knowledge sources and other configuration elements. You can review and edit that proposal before creation. This is prompt-assisted, low-code development, not a guarantee that a production-ready workflow appears without design, testing and governance.

What an agent can actually do

An agent’s authority comes from its configuration, not the word “autonomous.” It can retrieve from connected knowledge bases, call API tools, use authenticated services and perform actions such as retrieving email, updating records or adding tasks. Its effective limits are set by:

  • Assigned tools and API scopes.
  • User or service-account credentials.
  • Knowledge-base scope and retrieval quality.
  • Guardrails and approval gates.
  • The underlying Zoho application subscription.

Use least-privilege connections, separate service identities and approval before external messages or irreversible changes. Test in a non-production environment. Agents can still select the wrong record, use stale policy information, call the wrong tool or fail after a connection expires.

Where MCP fits

Zoho’s announced MCP server is intended to let outside agents interact with Zoho capabilities through a standardized context-and-tools mechanism. Agent Studio creates and deploys agents; MCP is the proposed interoperability layer for agents built elsewhere. It is not, by itself, a universal compatibility or security guarantee. Before depending on it in production, verify the currently supported actions, authentication flow, data-center coverage, audit controls and availability for your account.

Model choices, privacy and billing

Configuration Who supplies access? How usage is billed Main consideration
Zoho-hosted model Zoho Agent Wallet after the applicable allowance Processing is within Zoho’s infrastructure, subject to account, product and data-center terms.
Zoho-managed external model Zoho’s provider connection Agent Wallet at the provider’s rates Convenient, but the model remains external to Zoho.
BYOK Your organization Paid directly to the external provider Existing contracts and governance apply; prompts, retrieved material and tool outputs may go to that provider.

Zoho presents agent creation, deployment and management as free. Current documentation lists a 30-million-token monthly allowance for Standard-tier Zoho-hosted models and 20 million tokens for Pro; Standard lists Qwen 14B, Qwen 30B MoE and GLM 4.7 Flash, while GLM 5 is listed as Pro. The Pro tier is described as request-based in United States and India data centers. Zoho’s help documentation states that 1 US dollar equals 1,000 AI Credits. The pricing page advertises US$5 in initial credits for new signups; confirm eligibility and terms because that is an account-level offer, not a permanent entitlement.

Costs can also come from external provider fees, API calls, storage, repeated agent loops and the Zoho application plan itself. A free builder therefore does not mean a free production deployment. See current pricing and signup terms.

Data residency and availability checks

Before sending business data through an agent, document:

  • The account’s serving data center and storage location.
  • Whether the model is Zoho-hosted, Zoho-managed external or BYOK.
  • Which prompts, retrieved documents and tool outputs are sent to an outside provider.
  • Retention, logging and cross-border transfer terms.
  • Whether the model, connector and action are available for the account’s edition and region.

Zoho explicitly notes that model availability varies by data center; a feature visible in one region may be unavailable, request-based or differently configured in another.

Who is likely to benefit

  • Existing Zoho customers: CRM, Desk, sales, finance, marketing and other records can supply context and actions without assembling a separate application stack.
  • Structured-workflow teams: repeatable extraction, triage, summarization and record-update tasks are easier to govern than open-ended automation.
  • Low-code teams: prompt-assisted creation lowers the starting barrier while retaining editable tools and guardrails.
  • Organizations with model contracts: BYOK preserves access to an approved external provider.

The fit is weaker for companies that do not use Zoho applications, need a general-purpose frontier-model platform, require independently audited benchmarks or need mature multi-cloud governance before any rollout.

How it compares with alternatives

Microsoft Copilot Studio is a natural comparison for Microsoft 365, Teams, Power Platform and Azure estates. Salesforce Agentforce fits organizations standardized on Salesforce CRM and Data Cloud. Google Vertex AI Agent Builder offers Google Cloud infrastructure and model choice but generally requires more cloud expertise. Direct OpenAI, Anthropic or Google APIs provide model-level flexibility while leaving identity, orchestration, monitoring and enterprise integrations to the buyer. Self-hosted open models offer deployment control but require hardware, operations, security and evaluation.

Zoho’s differentiator is the combination of its application data, authenticated actions, marketplace and model options. That advantage is strongest when a company already pays for and governs the Zoho ecosystem.

A practical evaluation checklist

  1. Choose one low-risk workflow with a measurable baseline.
  2. List every record, document, API and credential the agent would access.
  3. Compare a Zoho-hosted model, an approved external model and BYOK on representative data.
  4. Measure accuracy, latency, token use, tool-call failures and human-review time.
  5. Require approval for outbound communication and irreversible updates.
  6. Check data-center, retention and provider terms with legal and security teams.
  7. Project costs above the free allowance, including Zoho subscriptions and third-party APIs.
  8. Review logs and rollback procedures before production deployment.

Bottom line for buyers

Zoho made a serious platform bet: proprietary models and speech recognition sit alongside agents, application actions, a marketplace and an MCP interoperability plan. The announcement does not prove that every current model is proprietary, that the ASR claim is independently validated or that every feature is generally available worldwide. For a business already invested in Zoho, a controlled pilot can be financially sensible because context and actions are close to existing records. For everyone else, compare the complete cost, provider exposure, permissions and governance—not just the model name or the claim that Agent Studio is free.
