Samsung says instant trade-in credit applies only when an eligible device is exchanged toward a qualifying new Samsung product, and values and eligible models can change. A damaged, locked, financed, blacklisted or incorrectly described phone may receive less credit or be rejected. Check the current Samsung trade-in terms rather than relying on an old maximum.

How carrier credits change the math
Historical AT&T S24 terms offered up to $800 through a qualifying 36-month, 0% APR installment agreement and eligible activation or upgrade. The terms required tax on the full retail price at purchase and said promotional credits stop when wireless service is cancelled: AT&T’s published terms.
For illustration, an $800 credit spread evenly over 36 months is about $22.22 per month. That does not make the phone free today: you still owe the installment balance, pay applicable taxes and fees, and risk losing future credits if you leave, change eligibility or trigger a payoff condition. Verizon support likewise described a historical S24 Ultra offer requiring a qualifying trade-in and upgrade scenario; it is not proof of an active August 2026 promotion (Verizon discussion).
Calculate your real cost
Use this formula before accepting a headline:
True cost = device price + taxes and fees + required plan cost − immediate discount − confirmed trade-in credit − promotional credits you are reasonably likely to receive.

For a carrier offer, calculate the phone separately: effective phone cost = total device payments − total promotional credits, provided you keep the required service for the entire term. Do not subtract your old phone’s resale value twice. If you surrender a phone worth $300 and receive $800 in promotional credit, the $800 may already reflect the trade-in transaction; your benefit is not automatically $1,100.

Checklist: verify the offer before buying
- Select the exact storage tier. A headline may apply to 512GB or 1TB while the advertised entry price is for 256GB.
- Confirm whether the listing is U.S. unlocked, carrier-specific or an international model.
- Expand the offer details and identify whether the saving is instant, a trade-in credit or monthly bill credits.
- Check whether you need a new line, an upgrade, a particular unlimited plan or an existing account status.
- Enter the exact trade-in model and condition honestly. Check screen, battery, lock and financing requirements.
- Read the shipping deadline for the old phone and what happens after an inspection downgrade.
- Add sales tax, activation, upgrade, shipping and accessory charges. Carrier credits normally do not erase tax on the pre-discount price.
- Confirm whether Samsung, retailer and carrier promotions can be combined.
- Ask what balance becomes due if you cancel service, switch plans or pay off early.
- Save the checkout summary and terms as a screenshot or PDF.
What you get with the S24 Ultra in 2026
The S24 Ultra remains a premium phone with a large 6.8-inch QHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy platform, 12GB RAM, a 200MP main camera, 50MP 5x telephoto, 10MP 3x telephoto, 5,000mAh battery and an integrated S Pen. Its age matters. Newer Galaxy Ultra generations may offer a more current processor, camera processing, connectivity and support horizon. A carrier commitment can cost more than the hardware discount, and a used unit adds uncertainty about battery health, water resistance, warranty and returns.

- The seller provides a U.S. model, clean IMEI, clear warranty and practical return rights.
When to skip the headline
- The $800 appears only after selecting a new line or expensive premium plan.
- You may switch carriers, downgrade service or need to pay the phone off early.
- The offer is a vague social-media post with no live terms.
- The S24 Ultra’s effective cost approaches that of a newer Ultra.
- The listing says “unlocked” but does not explain financing status, model number or carrier restrictions.
New, refurbished or used?
New
Buying from Samsung or a major retailer generally gives the clearest warranty, return policy, storage selection and IMEI history. Verify the exact configuration before paying.
Certified refurbished
This can improve the price-to-performance ratio if the seller states its inspection process, warranty, return period and battery standard. “Renewed” and “open-box” labels do not guarantee identical testing.
Used marketplace

Current Galaxy Ultra
Samsung’s August 2026 offer pages show newer products, including the Galaxy S26 Ultra, with up to $720 in instant trade-in credit or a limited no-trade-in discount depending on the displayed offer. Compare the final checkout totals at Samsung’s offer page and mobile-offer page. The S24 Ultra wins only when its effective cost is meaningfully lower or its S Pen and camera package are more important to you.
Galaxy S25 Ultra
Clearance promotions can make the S25 Ultra a middle option. Best Buy has published carrier-specific offers of up to $800 or $1,000 in bill-credit savings, but those are not unlocked cash discounts: Best Buy’s offer page.
Pixel Pro or iPhone Pro Max
A Pixel Pro may suit buyers prioritizing computational photography and Google services. An iPhone Pro Max is more compelling for people invested in iMessage, FaceTime, Apple Watch and Apple’s resale ecosystem; it does not replace the S Pen.

Buy the S24 Ultra when the live checkout shows a genuinely low total cost and the trade-in, warranty and service obligations fit your plans. Use a carrier deal only if you expect to remain eligible for every credit. If the offer is not visible on an official live checkout page, or its effective price is close to a newer Galaxy Ultra, skip the headline and wait.
