Is the $9.97 Windows 11 deal still available?
The matching Neowin promotion was originally published on November 28, 2025. Neowin also published similarly worded Windows 11 deals during 2026, but recurring listings do not establish that the exact $9.97 price remains active. Promotional software prices can change without notice.
Use the current deal page and proceed to checkout before treating the offer as available: Neowin’s Windows 11 $9.97 listing. Confirm the final price, edition, taxes or fees, seller identity, delivery method and redemption deadline. The deal store is at deals.neowin.net; Neowin says its branded deals operation is powered by StackCommerce and may receive affiliate compensation.
The original listing compared $9.97 with stated regular prices of $139 for Home and $199 for Pro. Those comparison prices are marketing context, not proof that the current checkout price or license terms are unchanged.

The page describes a discounted third-party key offer. Do not call it a retail or transferable license unless the current product page explicitly does so. Activation can show that a key works on a device, but Microsoft says activation by itself does not guarantee that a copy is genuine or that the license has unrestricted rights: Microsoft’s activation guidance.

Pro is not automatically better for a typical personal computer. If you do not need its business, management or virtualization features, Home is usually the more sensible low-cost choice.

Check whether you need to buy Windows at all
Eligible activated Windows 10 PC
Microsoft says eligible PCs with a genuine activated Windows 10 installation can upgrade to Windows 11 without buying another license. Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Check eligibility first at Microsoft’s Windows 11 page.
Already-licensed Windows PC
A computer may have an OEM or firmware-embedded license. Open Settings > System > Activation before purchasing. If the required edition is already activated, a new key may be unnecessary.

Windows 11 Home user who needs Pro
A valid Pro key can upgrade Windows 11 Home to Pro. This is the clearest use case for the deal, provided the current terms and key provenance are acceptable.
Unsupported hardware
A cheap key does not bypass Windows 11 requirements. Check the processor, TPM, Secure Boot, memory, storage and firmware requirements before buying.

How to redeem the key
Upgrade an existing Windows 11 Home installation
- Connect the PC to the internet and install pending Windows updates.
- Open Settings > System > Activation and confirm that the installed edition is Windows 11 Home.
- Select Change product key.
- Enter the purchased 25-character Windows 11 Pro key.
- Follow the prompts and restart if requested.
- Return to Settings > System > Activation and verify Windows 11 Pro is activated.
Microsoft documents this edition-upgrade process at Install or upgrade Windows using a product key.
New or clean installation
- Confirm that the PC meets Windows 11 minimum requirements.
- Create official Windows 11 installation media.
- Enter the key during setup when prompted, then select the matching edition.
- If you skip the key, complete activation later under Settings > System > Activation.
Keep the order confirmation and key. Microsoft explains activation and digital licenses at Activate Windows.

What can go wrong?
- Wrong edition: A Home key will not activate an installed Pro edition. Check the edition before entering the key.
- Invalid or previously used key: Confirm the 25 characters, internet connection and activation error code. Contact the seller for replacement or a refund before buying another key.
- Delayed redemption: The listing’s 30-day window makes storing the code for later use potentially unsafe.
- Motherboard replacement: A major hardware change can require reactivation. Microsoft’s guidance is at Reactivate Windows after a hardware change.
- Later loss of activation: Successful activation is not proof of unrestricted retail transfer rights.
- Scam activity: Avoid remote-access requests, modified installers, unauthorized KMS or activation scripts, irreversible payment methods and offers that provide only an account instead of a key.
When the deal makes sense
- The checkout page really shows $9.97 before applicable taxes or fees.
- You have a compatible PC without an activated Windows license.
- You know whether you need Home or Pro.
- You accept the one-device limit and possible transfer restrictions.
- The seller provides a clear replacement or refund process.
When to skip it
- Your activated Windows 10 PC qualifies for the free Windows 11 upgrade.
- Your computer already has an activated Windows license.
- You only need ordinary personal, gaming or school features and are considering Pro unnecessarily.
- Your hardware is not Windows 11-compatible.
- You need a clearly documented transferable retail license, volume deployment or long-term first-party support.
Verdict
Treat this as a potentially inexpensive third-party digital-key deal, not as permanently available official Microsoft pricing. Buy only after the live checkout confirms the price, edition, one-device rule, 30-day redemption period and refund terms. If licensing certainty matters more than the lowest upfront cost, use Microsoft’s official route. If you have an eligible activated Windows 10 PC, check the free upgrade before spending anything.
