Yes—Paramount has announced a plan to combine Paramount+ and Warner Bros. Discovery’s HBO Max streaming portfolios into one platform. The services have not yet been combined. As of October 4, 2026, the companies said they expected their merger to close on October 6, subject to customary closing conditions, and described the streaming integration as taking place “over the coming years.” No consumer launch date or details about price, service name, or subscriber accounts have been announced in the sources reviewed.

What Paramount has announced

Paramount’s plan is to bring the streaming portfolios of Paramount+ and HBO Max together in one stronger platform after the merger. On the company’s March 2, 2026 investor call, Paramount chair and CEO David Ellison said: “To enhance competition and deliver viewers a truly compelling offering, we will combine the streaming portfolios of the 2 companies into one stronger platform over the coming years.” That statement describes company intent; it does not set a consumer launch date.

The companies’ merger announcement and investor-call remarks point to a broad combination of entertainment brands, series, franchises, sports, and news. Examples named in connection with the combined company include Harry Potter, Mission: Impossible, The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, DC, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers, Star Trek, and SpongeBob SquarePants. Their inclusion in the companies’ broader libraries does not guarantee that every title will be in the future app at launch or remain available in every country. Streaming rights, licensing, and theatrical windows can affect where and when individual titles appear.

When could the apps become one?

There is no announced consumer rollout date. Paramount has said the portfolios would be combined “over the coming years,” which leaves the timing open. As of October 4, 2026, Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery expected the merger to close on October 6, subject to customary closing conditions; the expected closing date had not yet arrived.

The legal path matters, but it does not provide a product launch schedule. On June 12, 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division said it had completed its investigation and concluded that the proposed transaction was not likely to harm competition or American consumers, including in subscription video on demand. Twelve states later sued to block the deal. A consent decree entered September 30 resolved that case and modified the no-close order so the merger could proceed. The companies then announced their expected October 6 closing date. The DOJ’s assessment is not a guarantee of future prices, catalog size, or consumer outcomes. What subscribers still need to know

The combination plan does not yet answer the practical subscription questions. The sources reviewed do not announce:

  • the combined service’s name or consumer launch date;
  • its price, subscription tiers, or advertising options;
  • whether existing subscribers will need to migrate accounts, choose a new plan, or take any action;
  • whether Paramount+ and HBO Max will remain available as separate apps during a transition; or
  • which titles will be available in each country and when.

Until those details are announced, subscribers should not assume that they will automatically receive one combined subscription, that either existing app will close on a particular date, or that every title will move into the new platform.

How large could the combined streaming service be?

On its March 2, 2026 investor call, Paramount Skydance Corporation reported more than 200 million direct-to-consumer subscribers across the two platforms in more than 100 countries and territories. This is a company-reported aggregate scale figure, not a count of unique people and not a promise that the future service will have that many subscribers. People may subscribe to both services, and the figure does not establish how accounts or subscriptions will be handled after the merger. Read the investor-call transcript.

What to watch for next

For current subscribers, the most useful updates will be an official announcement about the consumer rollout and the terms that determine what a combined subscription means for a household budget: price and tiers, account migration, the future of the separate apps, and country-by-country catalog availability. Until Paramount provides those details, the supported answer is a planned platform combination—not a confirmed date, price, or change to anyone’s current subscription.
