What record did Wicked: For Good break?
It set the biggest opening-weekend record for a Broadway musical adaptation. That category matters: the result does not mean it had the biggest opening for any musical, or the biggest movie opening overall.
The previous benchmark belonged to the 2024 Wicked film. Variety reported that film opened with $112.5 million domestically and $164.2 million worldwide; its November 23, 2025 report put For Good ahead of those figures. Variety’s global opening report also compared the films’ domestic and international results.
How much did it make opening weekend?
Opening-weekend reports differ. NBCUniversal’s retrospective put the worldwide total at $223 million, while Variety and the Associated Press reported $226 million based on opening-weekend estimates. These are attributed reports, not one universal final figure; the headline’s $225 million is a rounded shorthand between them.

Variety said the film played in 4,115 North American theaters. Screen Daily reported $147 million domestically from 4,115 locations. The domestic difference between $147 million and $150 million, and the corresponding worldwide difference, reflects distinct reports and estimates. Variety, the Associated Press, and Screen Daily published their figures on November 23, 2025.
How did the sequel compare with the first Wicked?
Variety’s opening-weekend comparison shows For Good ahead of the first film in each reported market, though the sequel’s total varies by outlet:
