Early reports linked the disruption to a suspected accelerator-pedal problem, but Tesla had not confirmed that explanation when those reports appeared. A later official recall filing documented a pedal-pad defect and established the safety reason for the interruption.
This was a historical delivery disruption, not evidence of a current, company-wide Cybertruck halt.

What Tesla told customers
On April 15, 2024, Engadget reproduced a Tesla message sent to a buyer: “We have just been informed of an unexpected delay regarding the preparation of your vehicle. We need to cancel your delivery appointment on Sunday and we will reach out again when we’re able to get you back on the schedule.” Tesla apologized and said it hoped to complete the delivery soon.
The message described a scheduling and vehicle-preparation problem, but gave no technical explanation. Reports at the time described canceled or moved appointments rather than a confirmed nationwide stop in Cybertruck deliveries.

What was suspected—and what was confirmed later
Contemporaneous reporting
Several April 2024 reports attributed the disruption to a possible problem with the Cybertruck’s accelerator-pedal cover. Those reports also made clear that Tesla had not publicly confirmed the precise cause. The pedal explanation therefore remained reported suspicion at that stage, not Tesla’s stated explanation.
The subsequent official finding
NHTSA campaign 24V-276 and Tesla’s Part 573 manufacturer report later documented the defect. On certain 2024 Cybertrucks, the accelerator-pedal pad could dislodge and become trapped by interior trim. NHTSA warned that a trapped pedal could cause unintended acceleration and increase crash risk.

Tesla’s filing identified an unapproved assembly change: lubricant (described as soap) had been introduced to help fit the pad onto the pedal. Residual lubricant reduced the pad’s retention, allowing it to separate under high force.

The 3,878 figure is the recall population reported by both NHTSA and Tesla. It does not mean every Cybertruck delivered during that period had the defect, only that the vehicles fell within the potentially affected group.

How many vehicles had been remedied?
NHTSA’s first-quarter 2025 recall report listed 3,448 remedied vehicles out of the 3,878-vehicle population. “Total remedied” is NHTSA’s category and can include vehicles repaired, vehicles inspected and found not to need the remedy, or vehicles returned to inventory. It should not be read as 3,448 completed repairs.
That quarterly figure is the latest completion number identified here; it is a campaign-level statistic and does not establish the status of any particular Cybertruck.

What owners and buyers should do
- Look up the vehicle by VIN or license plate in NHTSA’s recall-lookup service.
- If campaign 24V-276 is open, contact Tesla service and arrange the free repair or replacement specified in the recall.
- Follow Tesla’s service instructions about operating or transporting the vehicle while the recall remains open.
- Do not buy or install a third-party pedal component as a substitute for the manufacturer recall remedy.
A campaign total cannot tell you whether an individual vehicle is repaired. The VIN result and Tesla’s service record are the relevant checks for a specific Cybertruck.

Keeping those stages separate avoids treating an initial customer-service message as a technical explanation while still recognizing that the later recall established a plausible safety basis for the delivery interruption.
