George Jefferson and Art Freebrey considered San Francisco, where much of the startup’s current customer base was said to be, but chose Manchester as the place to build. They point to UK university talent and their preference for Manchester; the reports do not present the choice as a general verdict that one city is better for startups.
Why did Revnu choose Manchester?
Jefferson and Freebrey temporarily relocated to Silicon Valley to take part in Y Combinator, then returned to Manchester after weighing San Francisco as a possible base. Jefferson said: “And we’re confident that Manchester is the right place to build this. Y Combinator opened our eyes to the Silicon Valley ecosystem in a very positive way, but San Francisco wasn’t the place to build for us.”
The founders cited the appeal of talent from UK universities. Prolific North also reported that their first hire was moving from London to Manchester. That helps explain their decision, but the reporting does not establish a broad comparison of hiring costs, investment access or operating conditions in Manchester and San Francisco.
The choice also involved a trade-off: much of Revnu’s current customer base was reportedly in San Francisco, while the founders chose to build their team in Manchester. The decision reflects their stated priorities, not a claim that Manchester is the right base for every company.

What does Revnu do?
Revnu is described in the reports as an AI marketing startup whose platform uses agents to help early-stage businesses find customers, run campaigns and build sales pipelines. Reported campaign channels include LinkedIn, TikTok and Instagram. The platform is said to support advertising tests, lead generation and meeting booking, with users able to set budgets.
Jefferson described the approach this way: “It tests every channel, finds what works for that business, scales what wins and gets rid of what doesn’t – all while keeping the founder in the loop.” The reporting says the platform learns a business’s tone and objectives over time and provides performance updates. These are company-product descriptions reported by Prolific North; the coverage does not provide independent evidence of campaign effectiveness or quantified customer outcomes.

Prolific North reported that Revnu raised $3 million in a round led by NPIF II – PXN Equity Finance, managed by PXN Ventures as part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II. Y Combinator also backed the company. The coverage does not identify a primary company or investor announcement, so these funding details should be understood as reported rather than independently audited disclosures.

Prolific North reported that their businesses generated around $15,000 a month while the pair were at university. The report does not state the accounting basis or the period represented, so the figure should not be read as profit or as an audited measure. The founders later saw broader potential in AI systems they were using to automate their own work. According to the report, Monzo co-founder Jonas Templestein encouraged them to pursue the opportunity and apply to Y Combinator. They left university for the accelerator, relocated temporarily to Silicon Valley and later returned to Manchester.
