Carpathia Hosting acquired ServerVault in a deal reported on September 1 and 2, 2009. The combination added ServerVault’s Dulles-area data center and brought together two managed-hosting providers focused on secure hosting, government customers, and regulated businesses. The financial terms were not disclosed.
Why did Carpathia Hosting acquire ServerVault?
The acquisition was presented as a way to combine complementary customer relationships, facilities, managed-hosting services, and compliance experience. Both companies served enterprise and government clients, including organizations with security and regulatory requirements.
Carpathia said the expanded offering would address government requirements such as FISMA and DIACAP, as well as needs in financial services and healthcare. Contemporary coverage also named SOX, PCI, GLBA, and HIPAA among the compliance areas addressed by the announced services. Those descriptions report the companies’ positioning at the time; they do not establish that either company held a particular certification or that every service met every listed standard. What did Carpathia get from ServerVault?
A Dulles-area data center
ServerVault’s Northern Virginia facility in Dulles—referred to as “the Vault” in Washington Technology’s report—expanded Carpathia’s regional footprint. Data Center Dynamics reported on September 1, 2009 that the facility was Tier III. That is a description in contemporaneous coverage, not evidence of a current certification or present-day facility status.

Hosting and compliance experience
ServerVault added a provider whose public positioning centered on highly secure, compliance-oriented hosting. Carpathia’s CTO, Jon Greaves, described ServerVault as “the leading provider of highly-secure and compliance-centric hosting services” in a statement reported by DatacenterKnowledge. This was an executive’s characterization, not independent verification of market leadership or security performance.
Overlapping customer relationships
The companies’ reported customer focus overlapped in government and regulated commercial markets. The acquisition therefore joined an existing federal-market orientation with ServerVault’s compliance-focused hosting, while broadening the facilities and services Carpathia could offer. The available contemporary accounts describe strategic fit, not comparative performance rankings.

How much did Carpathia pay for ServerVault?
The acquisition price and other financial terms were not disclosed in the September 2009 reports. No reliable purchase-price estimate is established by those accounts, so a dollar figure should not be inferred.

Later SEC-filed corporate records show a legal-entity trail: a September 28, 2015 supplemental indenture listed Carpathia Hosting, Inc. and ServerVault Corp. among subsidiaries of QualityTech, LP or its permitted successor, and QTS subsidiary lists also named Carpathia and ServerVault entities in 2016 and 2020. These records establish that the entities appeared in those dated corporate documents; they do not show whether the historic brands or services remain active today.
