Their relationship was personal as well as professional: Dell’Orco worked closely with Armani for decades and became a senior menswear design leader at the fashion house.
Who was Leo Dell’Orco?
Leo is the familiar name used for Pantaleo Dell’Orco. He was Armani’s longtime partner and close collaborator. The available accounts establish that their partnership lasted for many years, but do not give a precise start date or a detailed private chronology.
Professionally, Dell’Orco worked alongside Armani for 45 years of the fashion house’s 50-year history, according to the Associated Press in 2025. He also served as the house’s longtime head of menswear. Associated Press coverage
What did Armani say about succession?
In a statement quoted by Vogue Business from Giorgio Armani’s final interview with the Financial Times, Armani described a gradual handover of the responsibilities he had personally handled:
#1 Best Overall
“My plans for succession consist of a gradual transition of the responsibilities that I have always handled to those closest to me, such as Leo Dell’Orco, the members of my family and the entire working team.”
The statement names Dell’Orco as one of several people close to Armani, alongside family members and the wider team. It does not describe him as the sole successor. Vogue Business’s account of the interview

What is Dell’Orco’s role at Armani now?
The Armani Group’s September 16, 2026 announcement lists Dell’Orco as Head of Menswear Design of the Armani Group. The same announcement named Dario Vitale Creative Director of Emporio Armani and Giorgio Armani Accessories, and quoted Silvana Armani as Head of Womenswear Design. These are distinct roles, so Dell’Orco should not be described as the group’s sole creative director. Armani Group announcement
A February 2026 joint interview in Vogue framed Dell’Orco and Silvana Armani as hand-chosen successors, but the later announced creative-director appointment gives a more specific account of those responsibilities. Vogue interview

How does ownership succession differ from creative succession?
Creative and design roles do not, by themselves, establish who owns the company. The Associated Press reported on September 27, 2026, that the succession plan envisaged selling a 15% stake within 18 months of Armani’s death on September 4, 2025, and that Armani had given preference to LVMH, L’Oréal and EssilorLuxottica as possible buyers. The report described an intended process, not a completed sale. Associated Press report on the planned stake sale
