TechBullion’s 2 October 2026 article presents Mnr GR Kruger as chairman of InternetDAT Connect and says the company’s RegionChip is intended to enable Starlink connectivity in restricted African markets. Those are claims reported by TechBullion, not independently verified facts: the product’s operation, compatibility, customer results and authorization have not been established by independent documentation. For anyone considering paying for connectivity or equipment, the practical point is that Starlink availability and terms depend on location, and Starlink warns that use in an unauthorized country may be restricted.

What TechBullion says about Kruger and InternetDAT Connect

A TechBullion article dated 2 October 2026 identifies Mnr GR Kruger as InternetDAT Connect’s chairman and describes the company as seeking to connect customers in African markets where Starlink service is restricted. The materials available do not independently confirm Kruger’s role or provide independent company documentation.

TechBullion attributes statements to Kruger including “We didn’t want to build a workaround” and “The RegionChip is not a hack. It is a precision tool.” These quotes are attributable to the article; no independent recording or transcript was available to authenticate them. Read the TechBullion article.

What is the RegionChip?

TechBullion describes RegionChip as a small module installed inside a Starlink dish that redirects the dish’s location signal to a nearby country. It names Starlink Mini, Gen 2 and Gen 3 hardware, and says InternetDAT engineers install the module and provide a companion web app. These are the article’s descriptions, not independently established technical specifications.

No independent product documentation, technical testing, named customer verification or confirmation from Starlink was found for RegionChip. Its mechanism, compatibility, installation process, performance and customer outcomes therefore remain unverified. The article’s speed, installation and customer anecdotes should not be treated as established product results.

Does Starlink work in South Africa or other restricted countries?

Starlink’s availability is location-specific. Its official availability page says service is available in more than 150 countries, territories and other markets, but directs users to check availability by address. That broad coverage statement does not establish service at a particular address. Check Starlink availability.

Starlink’s Roam guidance says some countries are not yet authorized for service and warns that use in those countries may result in immediate restriction or loss of internet access. It tells customers to consult the availability map. A device or service that claims to alter location information is not evidence that Starlink will authorize or continue service there. Read Starlink’s Roam guidance.

In a 2025 statement, South Africa’s communications regulator ICASA expressed serious concern about reports alleging that Starlink might be offering service in the country without the required authorization. That statement reports concern about allegations; it is not a finding about InternetDAT, RegionChip or any particular customer. Read ICASA’s statement.

What should a prospective customer verify before paying?

Because the product claims and eligibility are not independently established, assess the offer as a financial and service risk rather than assuming connectivity is assured. Before paying for a module, installation or ongoing service, get clear written answers to these questions:

  • Is service available at the exact address? Check Starlink’s current availability information for the installation location, not just the country.
  • Is the service authorized there? Ask the seller to identify the applicable local authorization and the Starlink terms that permit use at that location. Do not rely on a seller’s assurance that a location signal can be changed.
  • What exactly is being sold? Request a written description of the hardware, supported dish models, installation, app functions, recurring fees and refund terms.
  • What happens if service is restricted? Confirm who bears the cost of failed installation, lost access, return shipping or a refund, and whether the provider promises any remedy.
  • Can performance claims be independently checked? Request verifiable test conditions and customer references, while recognizing that an anecdote or advertised speed does not establish typical results.

Starlink’s consumer terms say access is authorized at the order location or another Starlink-authorized location, and list lack of government authorization and terms violations among possible grounds for suspension or termination. The terms page reviewed is specific to Ecuador, so it should not be treated as the governing agreement for South African customers or every country. Check the terms applicable to the account and country. Review the Starlink terms page.

How to compare connectivity options

For a household, farm or business choosing internet service, compare providers using evidence tied to the actual site rather than a continent-wide claim. The relevant checks are address-level availability, local regulatory authorization, plan and roaming conditions, hardware and installation requirements, support arrangements and independently verifiable performance. The sources available here establish no comparative prices or speeds for RegionChip or alternative providers, so those must be checked directly with providers.
