Kalshi cofounder and chief operating officer Luana Lopes Lara is identified by Forbes as the world’s youngest self-made woman billionaire. Forbes estimated her net worth at $2.6 billion as of October 3, 2026. That figure is an estimate shaped largely by the value of her stake in private company Kalshi—not a measure of cash she has on hand.

Who is Luana Lopes Lara?

Lara is a Brazilian entrepreneur who cofounded Kalshi with MIT classmate Tarek Mansour in 2018. Forbes identifies her as Kalshi’s COO. The company’s January 2024 biography says she focuses on product direction and operations.

Before Kalshi, Lara studied computer science and mathematics at MIT and earned a Master of Engineering degree. Kalshi’s biography also lists internships or work at Bridgewater, Citadel, and Five Rings Capital, mathematics and astronomy olympiad medals in Brazil, and professional ballet at Salzburg’s Landestheater. These are parts of her background, not evidence that any one experience caused her wealth.

How much is Luana Lopes Lara worth?

Forbes’s live profile put Lara’s estimated net worth at $2.6 billion as of October 3, 2026. The figure should be read as a dated estimate, not an audited statement of her personal finances. Because Kalshi is privately held, the value of her reported ownership is not the same as cash she could necessarily access by selling shares.

The estimates have moved alongside reported valuations of Kalshi. Forbes Brasil reported a $1.3 billion estimate in March 2026, linking it to Kalshi’s $11 billion valuation after a December 2025 funding round and an estimated 12% stake for each cofounder. Forbes Australia later reported a $22 billion valuation and estimated that each cofounder still held about 12%. Forbes’s October profile estimate is a later snapshot, not a contradiction of the earlier figure.

Report Kalshi valuation or context Reported estimate for Lara
Forbes Brasil, March 2026 $11 billion, following a December 2025 round; each cofounder estimated to own about 12%. $1.3 billion net worth estimate.
Forbes Australia, May 12, 2026 $22 billion after a later $1 billion round; each cofounder estimated to own about 12%. The article reported the company valuation and estimated stake; it did not establish a separate net-worth figure for Lara.
Forbes profile, October 3, 2026 A later valuation-based snapshot. $2.6 billion real-time net-worth estimate.

These snapshots do not establish the exact value or liquidity of Lara’s holdings. Kalshi’s valuation is a company-level figure, while Forbes’s net-worth figure is an estimate of an individual’s assets and liabilities. Forbes Brasil’s September 7 interview said the May financing round brought Kalshi’s valuation to $22 billion; a $40 billion figure mentioned in that interview was a possible target for a future round, not a completed valuation.

How did Kalshi make its cofounder a billionaire?

Lara’s estimated fortune is tied primarily to her ownership in Kalshi. Forbes Australia describes Kalshi as an event-contract exchange where users trade yes-or-no contracts linked to real-world outcomes, including elections, Federal Reserve decisions, and NFL games. As the reported valuation of the private company rose, the estimated paper value of a founder’s stake rose too.

That is different from earning or receiving the full value in cash. A private-company valuation reflects what investors assign to the business in a financing context; it does not mean a founder can immediately sell their entire stake at that price. The figures available in these reports do not establish Lara’s liquid assets, personal debt, or the precise terms of her holdings.

What does “world’s youngest self-made woman billionaire” mean?

It is Forbes’s ranking description, not a permanent title or an official designation. Rankings can change as ages, company valuations, ownership estimates, and other wealth estimates change. Forbes Brasil’s March 2026 account said Lara displaced Scale AI cofounder Lucy Guo, then 31, who had taken the distinction from Taylor Swift in April 2025. The sequence is Forbes’s reported ranking history.

What does Kalshi do?

Kalshi offers contracts tied to whether specified events happen. Forbes Australia reported that a 2024 federal-court ruling cleared a path for election contracts on the platform, and that Kalshi later expanded heavily into sports. Those descriptions reflect the cited reporting and time period; laws, product availability, and the platform’s operations can vary by jurisdiction and change over time.

In a September 2026 Forbes Brasil interview about Brazil, Lara said, “Então a gente quer negociar com o governo” (“So we want to negotiate with the government”), describing the company’s aim to work with governments and operate legally under regulation. The statement concerns Kalshi’s ambitions in that market; it does not establish that the service is authorized or available everywhere.
