The $1,941 figure is the rounded version of the Social Security Administration’s August 2026 average monthly benefit: $1,941.76. It is an average across Social Security beneficiaries—not a standard check amount. Most October 2026 payments are scheduled for October 14, 21, or 28, depending on the recipient’s birth date.

Who gets the average Social Security check for $1,941?

No particular recipient is guaranteed a $1,941 payment. The figure is the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) average monthly benefit across its Social Security beneficiary population in August 2026, rounded from $1,941.76. That population includes people receiving retirement, survivor, and disability benefits. The August figures were released in September 2026. SSA benefit statistics

An average describes the total across a group; an individual’s benefit can be higher or lower. The SSA reported 71.499 million Social Security beneficiaries in the August snapshot.

How the August 2026 averages differ

Benefit group Average monthly benefit
All Social Security beneficiaries $1,941.76
Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) $1,997.19
Retirement benefits $2,033.27
Retired workers $2,087.52
Survivor benefits $1,635.70
Disability Insurance $1,498.94

These are SSA averages for August 2026, not eligibility thresholds or amounts everyone in a category receives. The retired-worker average of $2,087.52 applies to that subgroup, so it is not the same measure as the $1,941.76 overall average.

When will Social Security be paid in October 2026?

For most beneficiaries, the Wednesday payment date depends on the recipient’s date of birth. The SSA’s 2026 payment schedule assigns payments as follows: SSA 2026 payment calendar

Birth date October 2026 payment date
1–10 Wednesday, October 14
11–20 Wednesday, October 21
21–31 Wednesday, October 28

Who uses the special third-of-the-month schedule?

The SSA identifies a separate schedule for people who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 and people who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Under the stated rule, Social Security is paid on the third of the month and SSI on the first. October 3, 2026 falls on a Saturday, so check your my Social Security account or contact SSA for the payment date that applies to your case rather than assuming an adjusted date from the standard calendar.

Does my birthday determine my Social Security payment date?

For beneficiaries on the standard Wednesday schedule, the day of the month they were born determines which Wednesday group applies: the 1st through 10th, 11th through 20th, or 21st through 31st. It is the birth date—not the day of the week on which you were born—that matters. If you are on the special third-of-the-month schedule, use the individual schedule shown by SSA instead.

Is SSI included in the $1,941 average?

No. SSI is a separate program, not a Social Security benefit category. The SSA’s August 2026 snapshot reported an average SSI payment of $738.73, separate from the $1,941.76 average for Social Security beneficiaries. SSA SSI statistics

What should I do if my October payment is late?

If your payment has not arrived on its expected date, the SSA calendar advises allowing three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security. For questions about your own scheduled date or payment, check your my Social Security account or contact SSA. SSA 2026 payment calendar
