When did Michael DeCesare become ForeScout CEO?
ForeScout Technologies announced DeCesare’s appointment on February 25, 2015, and said he would assume the CEO role on March 2. A later SEC-filed proxy confirmed that he served as the company’s president and CEO and as a director beginning in March 2015. ForeScout’s 2019 proxy statement provides that service chronology.

Who was Michael DeCesare?
At the time of the appointment, DeCesare was president of Intel Security, previously known as McAfee. ForeScout’s announcement described him as having more than 20 years of leadership experience and listed senior roles at EMC, Documentum, and Oracle. That experience summary was ForeScout’s description of its incoming CEO.
The company’s later proxy filing gives a more detailed chronology: DeCesare held roles at Intel Security from October 2007 to February 2015, including president and executive vice president of worldwide sales and operations; worked at Documentum and EMC from 2001 to 2007; and held positions at Oracle from 1989 to 2000. The proxy also states that he earned a B.A. in Communications from Villanova University.

Why did ForeScout make the appointment?
ForeScout presented the hire as a way to accelerate growth in the information-security market. In the company’s February 25, 2015 announcement, DeCesare connected that opportunity to changes in network access: “The explosion of mobile devices, cloud and wireless access has thrown a giant spotlight on securing the network. This is where the action is, and the rapid growth of network security companies proves it.”
Board member Enrique Salem, identified in the release as a former Symantec CEO and then managing director at Bain Capital Ventures, also endorsed the appointment. He called DeCesare “a security industry trailblazer” and said he was the type of leader who would further drive ForeScout’s success. Both statements were views expressed in the company announcement, not independent assessments of later results.

What did ForeScout sell in 2015?
The announcement described ForeScout as a provider of continuous monitoring and mitigation solutions for enterprise cyberthreats. Its flagship offering, CounterACT, was presented as a platform for real-time visibility into users, devices—including bring-your-own-device equipment—systems, and applications, with automated responses to security issues. The release said CounterACT used ControlFabric architecture and could exchange information with other security products.

ForeScout announced on March 8, 2021 that Wael Mohamed would become CEO effective immediately. The company said Greg Clark and DeCesare would partner with Mohamed while continuing as board co-chairmen. The announcement establishes that later leadership change, but does not specify a separate exact departure date for DeCesare beyond the effective transition. ForeScout’s March 2021 announcement names Mohamed as the new CEO.
