There is no single best replacement for Amazon, Target, or Walmart: choose a retailer that fits what you are buying, then compare the exact item’s total cost, seller, delivery or pickup options, and return terms. For handmade or vintage finds, start with Etsy; for pet supplies, Chewy; for resale and broad marketplace listings, eBay; for technology, Best Buy; for warehouse shopping, Costco; and for home-improvement goods, The Home Depot.
Choose a retailer by what you need to buy
These stores are alternatives for different shopping missions, not interchangeable versions of a general retailer. A specialist may make it easier to find a relevant selection, while a marketplace can offer listings from many sellers. The six options below are examples, not a complete directory.
Handmade, vintage, or custom goods: Etsy
Etsy positions its storefront around handmade, vintage, custom, and distinctive goods. It is a natural place to look when those qualities matter more than finding a standard item from a broad general retailer. Check the individual listing and seller details before ordering.
Pet food and supplies: Chewy
Chewy focuses on pet products and supplies. That makes it a category-specific option for pet owners comparing food, accessories, or other pet needs. Verify the product, seller or fulfillment details, and checkout terms for the item you want.

Resale and broad marketplace listings: eBay
eBay offers listings across multiple categories and can suit searches where resale inventory or marketplace breadth is useful. Listings may come from individual or business sellers; do not assume every item is new or sold directly by eBay. Read the listing, condition, seller information, and return terms closely.
Technology: Best Buy
Best Buy is an option for technology shopping and has expanded BestBuy.com with a marketplace of third-party sellers and additional categories. In an August 19, 2025 corporate Q&A, chief marketplace and eCommerce officer Frank Bedo described it as “an expansion of what you can shop at BestBuy.com.” Best Buy says almost all marketplace items can be returned to a local store, though item-level exceptions should be checked.

- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
Seller identity matters if you are comparing prices: Best Buy’s price-match terms exclude products shipped from and sold by third-party marketplace sellers on the competitor websites listed in its policy. The policy page states an effective date of May 11, 2025; check its current terms and the item’s seller and shipper before relying on a price match. Read Best Buy’s price-match policy.
Warehouse shopping: Costco
Costco is an online warehouse-retail option. Before deciding whether it works for a purchase, check whether membership is required for the item, whether it is available for your location, and what shipping or other costs do to the total. No one retailer is automatically the lower-cost choice for every item.
Rank #3
Home-improvement products: The Home Depot
The Home Depot is a category-focused option for home-improvement shopping. Check the specific product’s availability, fulfillment choices, and return conditions rather than assuming they apply uniformly across the store.
Compare the purchase, not just the retailer
For an apples-to-apples decision, use the same product or a genuinely equivalent one and compare the final terms for your address. A low displayed price may not represent the lowest total cost once shipping, membership, or service charges are included.
Rank #4
- Category fit: Decide whether a specialist or a broad marketplace is better suited to the item.
- Seller identity: Establish whether the retailer itself or a third-party seller is selling and shipping the product. Policies such as price matching and returns may distinguish between them.
- Fulfillment: Check delivery availability and timing for your address, as well as local pickup where offered. Confirm the promise at checkout.
- Returns and support: Read the current item-specific return terms and find out whether a marketplace purchase can be returned in a store.
- Total cost: Compare the exact item’s checkout price, including shipping and any required membership or service costs.
Current prices, delivery thresholds, inventory depth, and return advantages were not established across these retailers, so a broad claim that one is always cheaper, faster, or better supported would be misleading.

The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) reported these online-retailer scores in its 2025 Retail and Consumer Shipping Study:
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
| Retailer | ACSI online-retailer score (2025) |
|---|---|
| Chewy | 85 |
| eBay | 81 |
| Costco | 79 |
| Etsy | 79 |
| The Home Depot | 79 |
| Amazon | 83 |
ACSI says it collected 41,850 completed surveys from customers contacted between January and December 2024. The study’s overall retail-sector satisfaction figure was 78.3 out of 100; that is a sector-wide measure, not an online-retailer score. These are dated, survey-based satisfaction results—not price comparisons, product-quality assessments, or guarantees about a future order. ACSI’s January 28, 2025 release says promotional use of its data requires express prior written consent. See the ACSI 2025 study release.
