In a January 19, 2010 report, DataCenterKnowledge said Chi-X Canada selected Switch and Data’s Financial EcoCenter at 151 Front Street in Toronto as its primary data centre. Chi-X planned to keep its existing Exchange Tower data centre as a backup. The announcement describes a historical arrangement, not a confirmed current one.

Where did Chi-X Canada colocate in Toronto?

Chi-X Canada chose Switch and Data’s Financial EcoCenter at 151 Front Street as its primary data centre, according to DataCenterKnowledge’s January 19, 2010 report. Colocation places an organization’s computing equipment in a third-party data centre; in this case, the site was intended to support Chi-X Canada’s trading platform and subscriber connections.

Why did Chi-X Canada choose 151 Front Street?

Chi-X Canada said it wanted room to expand its colocation operation and faster connectivity for subscribers. COO Dan Kessous described low-latency access as a priority, saying the company had focused on providing subscribers and vendors with “fair, seamless and, above all else, low-latency access” to its trading platform.

Switch and Data vice president John Panzica attributed the Toronto facility’s appeal to its downtown location, long-haul fibre routes originating in New York and Chicago, and existing connections to trading firms and vendors. Those are the provider representative’s stated reasons; the report provides no independent latency measurements or comparison of network performance.

What data centre did Chi-X Canada use as backup?

The report said Chi-X Canada planned to retain its existing Exchange Tower data centre as its backup site. It identifies the facilities by role, but does not describe the backup design, service levels, power or cooling specifications, or how traffic would shift between locations.

Was the move completed, and is the arrangement still current?

The 2010 article said the move was expected in late Q2, but the extracted report does not specify the year for that timing or confirm when the move was completed. It also does not establish whether either facility or the colocation arrangement remains current. Treat the announcement as a snapshot of Chi-X Canada’s plans reported in 2010, not as present-day facility information.
