For a multi-location business, a suitable QR code platform should let you centrally manage distinct codes for each branch, update destinations when codes are dynamic, and report scans at the level you actually need. Before choosing, test how the platform handles permissions, bulk creation, data exports, plan limits, and what happens to printed codes if you leave the service. No independent apples-to-apples comparison establishes one universally best provider; the right choice depends on your deployment and operating requirements.
Start with the job each QR code must do
Decide what customers should reach when they scan: a menu, booking page, store-specific promotion, product information, or another destination. Then decide whether that destination might change after the code is printed. These choices determine whether a static or dynamic code fits and what dependencies the business accepts.
Static codes
A static code encodes its destination directly. It may suit a permanent destination that is unlikely to change, but ask what options you have if the URL becomes obsolete. Bitly documents a high-volume static QR-code endpoint, while Uniqode says its API supports static-code creation. Those vendor descriptions do not establish which approach is best for every deployment. Bitly API QR codes; Uniqode QR code API.
Dynamic codes
A dynamic code routes through a service that can let you change its destination after printing. That can avoid replacing signs or labels when a landing page changes, but it also creates a service dependency. Ask whether a printed code continues to work if the subscription ends, and what happens to its routing and analytics. Get the answer in writing before deploying codes across branches.

Make location attribution deliberate
When you need to compare branches, assign each location or physical placement a distinct code or identifier. A single code reused at every branch cannot, by itself, show which branch produced a scan. Use a naming scheme that stays consistent, such as branch identifier, placement, and campaign, and test that the platform preserves those labels in reports and exports.
Ask what the vendor means by scan “location.” Uniqode lists analytics for scan volume, device, location, and time, and its API page describes analytics data including scan count, device, location, user count, and time of day. These are vendor feature descriptions, not independent confirmation of accuracy, geographic precision, collection method, or privacy compliance. Uniqode QR code API.

Check organization, permissions, and account ownership
A central dashboard is not enough if branch staff can accidentally change shared codes or cannot access the work they need. Map who creates codes, approves destination changes, views branch reports, and removes access when staff leave. Confirm whether roles, seats, workspaces or organizations, single sign-on (SSO), and audit history are included in the specific plan you are considering.
- Can codes be grouped, tagged, or assigned by branch?
- Can staff access only their location’s codes and reporting?
- Who owns the account, codes, destinations, and scan data if an employee leaves?
- Can administrators transfer ownership or revoke access without disrupting printed codes?
- Are required governance features included or sold at a higher tier?
Match volume and automation to your workflow
For a few codes, manual creation may be manageable. For a rollout across many locations, ask about bulk generation, supported CSV or XLSX imports, API access, request limits, and monthly code allowances. Test a realistic batch that includes your naming convention and destination fields, rather than relying on a general claim of bulk support.

Uniqode describes API functions for creating, editing, listing, downloading, deleting, and labeling codes, as well as bulk creation. Bitly documents a customizable, trackable endpoint and a high-volume static endpoint; it also says API-created links and QR codes count toward monthly limits. Evaluate reports, retention, and integrations
Define what the business needs to learn from scans: volume by branch, campaign or placement; patterns over time; or device and geographic information. Then verify that the platform’s reports support those questions and can be exported or connected to your analytics, CRM, or automation tools. Ask how long scan history is retained and whether the answer changes by plan.

Do not treat location analytics as proof that a scan can be attributed precisely to a branch. Branch attribution should come from distinct code assignment or another documented method; the meaning and precision of any geographic scan data need separate confirmation.
Compare plan limits and commercial terms
Plan allowances can constrain a rollout even when a platform has the features you want. Uniqode’s help-center comparison, accessed in 2026, publishes these figures for plans billed annually; verify them with the provider because pricing and features can change.

For every shortlisted provider, check the billing period, renewal price, code and request limits, analytics retention, seats, add-ons, support terms, and export options. A low entry price can be a poor fit if the required number of branches, history, or staff accounts forces an upgrade.

Use a trial or demonstration to model the real process for several branches:
- Create distinct codes for locations and placements using the intended naming convention.
- Change a destination on a dynamic code and confirm how the printed code behaves.
- Give branch staff the access they need, then test whether they can see or change other locations’ codes.
- Generate a batch through the planned import or API workflow and check its output against the monthly limits.
- Review a report by branch and campaign, export it, and confirm what scan fields and history it contains.
- Test staff offboarding, account ownership, and the consequences of subscription cancellation before printing at scale.
Plan the physical rollout, not just the dashboard
Each printed sign or label needs a correct destination, a readable code, and a placement customers can scan. Establish who checks links before printing and after changes, how damaged or obsolete materials are replaced, and how staff report a problem. If you use branch-specific labels, include an identifier that helps employees recognize where each one belongs. Choose print materials for the surface and environment; the platform feature descriptions do not establish the durability or compatibility of any particular label or printer.
