If airline miles have not arrived after a bank or card rewards transfer, first check the rewards program’s stated processing window and the transfer’s status in both accounts. Don’t send a second transfer until the first is accounted for: completed transfers may be irreversible, and timelines and support routes depend on the programs involved.
First, identify what kind of credit is missing
A bank or card rewards transfer into an airline program is different from miles earned by flying or from a transfer between loyalty accounts. That distinction determines which organization can investigate the transaction and which deadline applies.
- Bank or card rewards transfer: Start with the originating bank or card rewards program. It can check the request and whether source points were deducted.
- Flight-earned miles or points: Follow the airline’s missing-flight-credit process. American Airlines says its missing-mile estimates—up to 10 days for American flights and up to 30 days for partner flights—apply to flights, not bank-to-airline transfers. For non-airline partner miles, American directs members to the partner; Delta says partner activity is governed by the individual offer terms and partner reporting.
- Other partner activity or a conversion between loyalty programs: Check the specific program terms. For example, Emirates directs members to the bank for bank-originated missing miles, while its rules route missing conversions to the conversion partner or Emirates depending on the direction.
Check the transfer window and status
Look in the source program’s transaction history and terms for the estimate that applies to your particular airline partner. Then check the airline account’s activity for a posted credit, pending transaction, or other status. One program’s estimate is not a universal standard.
For example, U.S. Bank says most transfers to participating programs are processed by the next business day, but can take up to 72 hours to appear in the partner account. It says source points are deducted immediately when a request is made. Those figures apply to U.S. Bank’s participating-program transfers, not every bank, card issuer, airline, or country. See the U.S. Bank Rewards Center rules.

If the issuer’s published window has not passed and the request is still pending, wait until it does before treating the transfer as failed. If the request has disappeared, been rejected, or passed the stated window without posting, contact the institution responsible for the missing leg.
Check the account details and eligibility
Before contacting support, compare the details used in the transfer with both accounts:

- Confirm that the destination airline loyalty number is correct and belongs to the intended account.
- Check that both accounts are open and eligible and that the programs permit this transfer.
- Compare the account names. U.S. Bank requires the card and partner account names to match and warns that even small variations can cause a transfer failure.
A name mismatch or a security review may be one possible explanation, but do not assume either is the cause. Ask the issuer to confirm the reason for a hold or failure.
Contact the institution that can trace the missing leg
For a bank- or card-originated transfer, begin with the rewards program that accepted the request, especially if source points were deducted but the airline account has no credit. If the airline’s own records are needed, the issuer can tell you whether the transfer was sent and what to ask the airline to check. Contact the airline when its program is responsible for the conversion or its account records need investigation. The correct route varies by program and transfer direction; Emirates, for example, distinguishes between bank-originated missing miles and conversions in either direction in its Skywards FAQ.

Have these details ready so the representative can locate the request:
- Transfer date and, if available, time and confirmation or reference number
- Source program and number of points or miles requested
- Destination airline program and loyalty account number
- Whether source points were deducted and what the destination account shows
- Screenshots or statements showing the request, debit, status, or failure notice
Ask whether the request is pending, rejected, reversed, or completed, and what evidence or next step the program requires. U.S. Bank says eligible partner currency that has not posted must be reported within six months, with reasonable supporting proof; that reporting rule applies to the U.S. Bank case described in its program rules. Do not assume another issuer uses the same deadline or can expedite or restore a transfer.

Do not send another transfer until the first is accounted for
A second request could leave you with two debits if the original transfer later completes. U.S. Bank says its participating-program transfers are final and irrevocable after submission, and Point.me also cautions that an initiated transfer may not be reversible. Because terms differ, ask the responsible program to confirm the first request’s status before submitting another one.

Deadlines for flight-earned miles are not automatically deadlines for bank transfers. Qatar Airways allows claims for specified missing flight Avios or Qpoints within six months of travel under its Privilege Club terms. American’s flight-credit estimates likewise concern travel, while its guidance sends members to the partner for non-airline partner miles. Emirates says to allow six to eight weeks after receipt of the specified missing-mile claim for miles to appear; that is an estimate for that partner-claim process, not a general bank-transfer timeline. Check the relevant program’s current rules for your case.
