Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

If it is pending in MetaMask, Avalanche Support documents options to speed it up or cancel it while pending. A finalized transaction cannot be cancelled or reversed.
First, confirm the chain and check the transaction hash
This guidance covers the Avalanche C-Chain, not every Avalanche network or wallet. The C-Chain is EVM-compatible, uses Chain ID 43114, and has AVAX as its native token. Open the Avalanche C-Chain Explorer and search for the transaction hash. A wallet’s activity label alone does not establish the transaction’s on-chain status.
In the transaction details, check the status and nonce. The nonce is the sequence number for a transaction from your account; an earlier pending transaction can hold up later transactions from that account. Do not blindly resend the original transfer: if the first one later succeeds, a second transaction could send the funds twice.
What to do based on the transaction status
If the transaction is pending
For MetaMask, Avalanche Support documents a Speed Up control that resubmits the transaction with a higher gas fee, and a cancellation option that is available only while the transaction remains pending. These controls are wallet-specific; do not assume another wallet offers the same steps or labels.

If you used a custom nonce or have several pending transactions, address the oldest pending nonce first. Avalanche Support says a later nonce cannot be cancelled before the earlier one, and later transactions can be queued behind it. Check MetaMask’s current fee display and the network conditions rather than treating example fee increases in a support article as a universal recommendation.
If the transaction failed
A failed transaction is not the same as one that is still pending. Review the explorer details and any error shown by your wallet. Avalanche’s transaction lifecycle documentation identifies insufficient balance and an incorrect nonce as validation issues. It also explains that an earlier transaction may change your available balance or nonce before a later transaction is included.

Those are diagnostic possibilities, not a complete list of errors or a single fix for every failure. Use the specific error and transaction details to decide what to correct before trying again; avoid repeating a transfer until you have confirmed that the failed transaction did not complete.
If the transaction is final
Once a C-Chain transaction is finalized, it cannot be cancelled or reversed. Avalanche describes C-Chain finality as fast and irreversible, approximately one second. If you sent funds to the wrong address, the transaction system has no mechanism to retrieve them; recovery would depend on the recipient, not a wallet cancellation control.

Why fees and waiting behavior can change
There is no universal replacement fee or pending-transaction expiry interval established for all conditions. Network demand affects fee conditions, so use the fee estimate currently shown in your wallet. Avalanche’s C-Chain utilization documentation says that since the Helicon change on September 22, 2026, an accepted transaction reserves its gas limit in a block and is charged the greater of the gas it uses or half its limit. This differs from older descriptions that say only the gas actually used is charged.

The steps here are for C-Chain transactions, with the pending replacement controls described specifically for MetaMask. They do not establish the same procedure for other wallets, nor do they cover X-Chain or P-Chain activity, bridge transfers, or exchange deposits. For those cases, confirm which service or network currently holds the transaction and use its own status and support process.
