What to Do If a Crypto Deposit or Withdrawal Is Missing

A missing crypto transfer can be waiting for confirmations, platform processing, or an account review. Check the TxID and network before taking action.

Start by finding the transaction ID (TxID or hash) and checking it on an explorer for the network actually used. That shows whether the transfer was broadcast and what the blockchain reports; then compare the result with the sending and receiving platforms’ statuses. Don’t send the transfer again just because a balance has not updated.

First, collect the transfer details

Use the sending service’s withdrawal history or ask its support team for the transaction details. Keep the following information together:

  • TxID or transaction hash, if one has been generated
  • Coin or token, network, amount, and approximate transfer time
  • Destination address and, if applicable, the memo, tag, or comment
  • Sending-platform withdrawal reference and receiving-platform deposit status

Check the TxID on a blockchain explorer for the network used—not simply the network you intended to use. Coinbase and KuCoin both direct users to locate the hash and check its status on-chain: Coinbase Exchange transaction guidance and KuCoin deposit troubleshooting.

Use the transaction status to choose your next step

What you find What it usually means What to do
No TxID, or no transaction on the relevant explorer The withdrawal may not have been broadcast, or the supplied hash may be wrong. Contact the sending platform first and ask it to confirm the withdrawal status and provide the correct TxID. KuCoin notes that an absent deposit TXID may mean the transfer was unsuccessful; Binance also uses the TxID to inspect status. KuCoin; Binance
Pending, failed, or too few confirmations The transaction has not reached the recipient service’s confirmation threshold, or the chain reports a problem. Check the explorer and the recipient’s current deposit instructions for that specific asset and network. If it remains unconfirmed, ask the sending platform to investigate.
Confirmed on-chain, but no credit in the recipient account The recipient may still be processing the deposit, or its deposit instructions or account checks may not be satisfied. Compare the actual destination address, network, asset, and any required memo/tag with the recipient’s deposit page. Check account notices, holds, or identity requests; if the details match, contact the receiving platform.
Wrong address or network, or a missing/incorrect memo or tag The transfer may not be credited automatically, and recovery may not be available. Contact the receiving platform promptly through its official support channel. Do not assume the transfer can be reversed or recovered.
Sending platform still shows the withdrawal as pending The request may still be in the platform’s own processing flow; it may or may not have been broadcast. Check whether a TxID exists. If not, the sender is the first point of contact; if it does, inspect the explorer status and escalate according to that platform’s guidance.

If there is no TxID or the explorer has no record

A withdrawal marked pending inside an exchange is not necessarily a blockchain transaction yet. Ask the sending platform whether it has broadcast the transfer and request the TxID. If a hash was supplied but the relevant explorer cannot find it, verify that the hash and network are correct, then ask the sender to investigate. Do not initiate a replacement transfer until you know what happened to the first one.

If the transaction is pending or under-confirmed

Some receiving platforms wait for a minimum number of network confirmations before crediting a deposit. The threshold depends on the asset, network, and platform; look it up on the recipient’s current deposit page rather than relying on a number from another exchange or an old support article. Coinbase’s Exchange documentation, for example, shows a BTC setting of two confirmations, but that is an example of Coinbase’s setting, not a universal Bitcoin rule: Coinbase Exchange crypto transfers.

“Pending” can also describe different stages. Coinbase says certain node-synchronization delays usually last less than an hour, while KuCoin says processing after sufficient confirmations can take up to two to three hours. These are platform-specific explanations, not general deadlines: Coinbase; KuCoin. Check the service’s live status and its current guidance for your transfer before deciding that a delay is abnormal.

If it is confirmed but the deposit is missing

Match the on-chain details to the deposit instructions

Compare the explorer’s destination address and network with the exact deposit instructions shown by the receiving platform for that asset. Tokens can be available on more than one network, and using a different network from the one supported for that deposit can prevent credit. Coinbase warns that unsupported assets or networks may be lost, although support may have recovery options: Coinbase deposit troubleshooting.

Look for an account hold or requested action

Check the recipient account’s notifications and deposit history for an identity request, account alert, or hold. Coinbase says some requested account actions must be completed before a crypto receive is credited and gives an interval of three to five business days after certain actions are completed; that timing applies to Coinbase’s guidance, not other services. Kraken uses “On hold” for a deposit requiring support review, while its other status labels include “Pending/Processing,” “Credited,” and “Successful.” Labels and workflows vary by platform: Coinbase account-action guidance; Kraken deposit statuses.

Escalate to the receiving platform when the details match

If the transaction is confirmed, the address and network match the recipient’s instructions, and any stated confirmation or processing requirement has been met, contact the receiving platform with the transfer evidence. A successful blockchain transaction establishes what happened on-chain; it does not by itself prove that a custodial exchange has credited the account.

If the address, network, memo, or tag was wrong

Contact the receiving platform promptly and provide the TxID and transfer details. Some networks or assets require a memo, tag, or comment in addition to the address; an omission or incorrect value can prevent the deposit from being matched to your account. OKX warns that wrong-address or wrong-network transfers are not guaranteed to be recoverable, and Coinbase says it cannot recover funds sent on the wrong network. OKX also identifies missing or incorrect memo/tag/comment information as a cause of withdrawal failure: OKX recovery guidance; Coinbase; OKX withdrawal guidance.

Recovery depends on the asset, network, recipient, and platform procedures; it may be impossible. Use only the platform’s official app or help-center domain, accessed directly. Never share a seed phrase, private key, password, one-time code, or remote access to your device with someone claiming they can recover the funds.

Contact the right support team with a safe evidence packet

  • No TxID or withdrawal not submitted: contact the sending platform.
  • TxID exists but the explorer shows no confirmation: ask the sender to investigate the unconfirmed transaction; use the explorer to document what is publicly visible.
  • Confirmed, correct address and network, but not credited: contact the receiving platform.
  • Account action requested or deposit on hold: follow the recipient’s account notice and contact its official support if review is needed.
  • Wrong network/address or missing memo/tag: contact the recipient promptly, without assuming recovery is possible.

Include the TxID, asset, network, amount, approximate time, public sending and receiving addresses, memo/tag if used, and the exchange’s withdrawal or deposit reference. A screenshot of the status can help; obscure unrelated personal information. Never send credentials or secrets as proof of ownership.

Platform timing examples are not universal deadlines

Support windows differ. OKX’s US help guidance says to contact support if a withdrawal request remains pending for more than one hour; Binance’s withdrawal guide advises contact when no TxID has been generated six hours after email confirmation, but that article is older and should be checked against current guidance. Neither figure is a general deadline for all exchanges: OKX US withdrawal guidance; Binance withdrawal guide.
