On August 6, 2025, Apple CEO Tim Cook gave President Donald Trump a one-of-a-kind engraved glass plaque mounted on a base he described as 24-karat gold. The gift was presented at a White House event where Apple announced an additional $100 billion in U.S. investment commitments.

What was Tim Cook’s gift to Trump?

It was a circular glass plaque with an Apple logo cut out at its center, mounted on a gold base. Cook described it as “a unique unit of one.” Contemporary reporting transcribed the engraving as:

  • “PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP”
  • “APPLE AMERICAN MANUFACTURING PROGRAM”
  • “Tim Cook” (signature)
  • “MADE IN USA”
  • “2025”

Was the gift made of pure gold?

Cook said the base came from Utah and was 24-karat gold. That describes the stated purity of the gold, but the available account does not establish the base’s weight or monetary value. It is therefore more precise to call it a glass plaque with a 24-karat gold base than to say the entire gift was “pure gold” or “solid gold.”

Cook also said the glass came from the Corning production line in Kentucky and was engraved for Trump. He said the box was made in California.

When and why did Cook present it?

Cook presented the plaque to Trump in the Oval Office during a White House event on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The event accompanied Apple’s announcement of an additional $100 billion in U.S. investment commitments. The White House photo caption described the gift as made from glass Apple would be manufacturing in Kentucky.

Apple’s added pledge was reported as bringing its stated total U.S. investment commitment to $600 billion. These are announced commitment figures, not confirmation that all spending has already occurred or that projected jobs have materialized. The timing of the gift and announcement does not, by itself, establish a motive or a quid pro quo.

What is not known about the plaque?

The available accounts do not establish the object’s market value, how much gold it contains, or whether Trump retained it personally or officially. They also do not establish whether Apple later completed the announced investment commitments.
