What Peter Thiel Said in His Private Antichrist Lectures

Recordings of Peter Thiel’s four private 2025 lectures reportedly capture his theory about Armageddon, political power, and technology—and what the reporting does not establish.

Recordings of four private lectures Peter Thiel gave in San Francisco in September and October 2025 reportedly capture him arguing that fear of Armageddon and other existential threats could help an authoritarian figure he calls the Antichrist seize power. That is Thiel’s political-theological theory—not an established prediction, a verified identification of a person, or a consensus Christian interpretation.

What was leaked, and how the recordings were reported

The Guardian reported on 10 October 2025 that an anonymous attendee supplied recordings of a four-part lecture series held from 15 September to 6 October in San Francisco. The events were described as off the record; attendees were told not to take photographs or make audio or video recordings. Tickets reportedly cost $200 and sold out within hours. The Washington Post also reported reviewing recordings of all four lectures. The Guardian’s account and The Washington Post’s report are published reporting about the recordings, not an authorized transcript or an independently authenticated public archive.

The Guardian said Thiel’s spokesperson did not dispute the recordings’ veracity, while correcting a transcription and clarifying part of Thiel’s argument. The Guardian’s reporters did not attend the talks. Accordingly, claims about the lecture content below are attributed to the outlets that reviewed the recordings.

Thiel’s central argument

“The antichrist comes to power by talking constantly about Armageddon,” Thiel said, according to the Guardian. In his framework, warnings about catastrophe can create public fear, which a would-be ruler could use to gain authority over science and technology and advance a one-world order. The talks connected this scenario to debates about existential threats and the political response to them.

This describes what Thiel argued in the lectures. The reporting does not establish that such an Antichrist exists, that his prediction will come true, or that his interpretation represents Christian doctrine generally.

What each of the four lectures covered

The Guardian’s account lays out a four-date sequence. Its descriptions indicate broad themes rather than a formal syllabus or a debate among multiple speakers.

Date Reported focus
15 September 2025 The Antichrist, Armageddon, and the use of fear to gain authority over science and technology.
22 September 2025 Government and empire, including how power is organized and exercised.
29 September 2025 Historical and literary examples related to the Antichrist framework.
6 October 2025 How quickly one person might gain power, and whether the United States could restrain or help create a one-world order.

The dates and broad topics are as summarized by the Guardian. The account describes talks that moved among biblical passages, philosophy, politics, recent history, and popular culture, rather than a tightly bounded argument.

People Thiel mentioned—and what the reporting does not show

The Guardian reported that Thiel cited climate activist Greta Thunberg and AI researcher Eliezer Yudkowsky as examples of anti-science figures within his theory. That is not the same as conclusively naming either person as the Antichrist. The published account does not establish that he identified an actual individual as that figure.

Books and stories used as references

The Guardian reported that Thiel drew on several works, interpreting some through his own framework:

  • Francis Bacon’s New Atlantis
  • Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels
  • Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’s Watchmen
  • Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece

These are literary and cultural references in the talks, not evidence for the truth of Thiel’s claims. For context on Thiel’s longer interest in apocalyptic ideas and his engagement with philosopher René Girard, WIRED has described an earlier closed Girardian seminar Thiel and a mentor organized at Stanford in 2004. That history provides background, not independent confirmation of what was said in 2025: WIRED’s account.

How to read the story responsibly

  • Separate the claim from the reporting: the outlets report what Thiel said; the Antichrist scenario is his theory.
  • Keep the attribution attached: the quoted Armageddon line is Thiel’s statement as reported by the Guardian, not a verified fact.
  • Do not overstate the names: the account says Thiel used Thunberg and Yudkowsky as examples in his framework, not that he definitively identified either as the Antichrist.
  • Recognize the access limits: reporting is based on recordings provided by an anonymous attendee and reviewed by news organizations, not an authorized complete transcript available in a public archive.
