Rokt is an enterprise ecommerce technology and commerce-media platform that places personalized offers, recommendations, payment incentives, upsells and advertisements at high-intent points in a purchase journey. Rokt calls those points the “Transaction Moment”: product selection, cart review, payment, confirmation and post-purchase. It generally works alongside a merchant’s existing store and checkout rather than replacing them. See Rokt’s product overview.

Rokt in one sentence

Rokt is a business-to-business platform with two principal sides. Ecommerce partners use it to increase transaction revenue or improve the checkout experience; advertisers use Rokt Ads to reach shoppers on those partners’ properties. Rokt mParticle is the related customer-data and identity component.

Buyer What the buyer uses Rokt to do Typical products
Ecommerce partner Add upsells, payment offers, third-party products or post-purchase monetization Catalog, Upcart, Pay+, Aftersell, Thanks
Advertiser Acquire customers in transaction-stage placements Rokt Ads
Data-driven enterprise Unify and activate customer data Rokt mParticle

Rokt describes the wider system as Rokt Brain, its AI relevance engine, operating across the Rokt Network of ecommerce placements. These are Rokt’s product and positioning terms, not independent industry standards.

What “Transaction Moment” means

Rokt’s “Transaction Moment” is its name for the period when a shopper has demonstrated strong commercial intent:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Selection and discovery: the shopper chooses products.
  2. Cart or order review: complementary products or services may be offered.
  3. Payment: incentives, financing or payment-related offers can appear.
  4. Confirmation and post-purchase: the thank-you page or an immediate post-purchase screen can carry offers or one-click upsells.

The premise is that a relevant next action may be more useful at these points than a generic advertisement elsewhere. Relevance is not guaranteed, however, and a poorly timed offer can add checkout friction.

How the platform works

  1. The ecommerce partner integrates Rokt into selected transaction-stage placements. Rokt documentation describes a single integration that can support multiple ecommerce products, although requirements vary by platform and product. Read the ecommerce integration overview.
  2. The integration sends permitted transaction context and other approved signals.
  3. Rokt Brain evaluates contextual and behavioral information and ranks eligible experiences.
  4. The selected offer, recommendation or advertisement appears in a placement controlled by the ecommerce partner.
  5. Rokt and the partner measure engagement, conversion, revenue and other agreed outcomes.

“AI-powered” does not mean every decision is autonomous or that Rokt guarantees an uplift. Merchants still need to define eligible campaigns, inventory, categories, suppressions, placements and business rules.

Rokt’s ecommerce products

Rokt Catalog

Catalog presents curated third-party products during the shopping journey. Rokt says its catalog contains more than 1.2 million products from more than 4,600 brands; those are company-reported figures that can change. The potential benefit is broader assortment without holding inventory, but the contract should clarify relevance standards, merchant-of-record status, fulfillment, customer service and revenue sharing. Rokt’s Shopify terms define upsell campaigns broadly and allow circumstances in which Rokt or another party is the merchant of record; review the published agreement.

Rokt Upcart

Upcart focuses on in-cart recommendations and add-ons. Rokt markets a claim of “up to 25% more revenue from every customer.” That is a vendor marketing claim, not a normal or guaranteed result. The right test is whether an offer increases net contribution after discounts, fulfillment and any effect on original checkout conversion.

Rokt Pay+

Pay+ targets the payment stage with offers such as cashback, financing and payment-related promotions. It is not automatically a replacement for a payment processor. Financial offers can require eligibility rules, disclosures, consent and jurisdiction-specific compliance, so the merchant should establish who handles those duties.

Rokt Aftersell

Aftersell offers one-click products immediately after checkout, generally without re-entering payment or shipping details. Rokt markets “up to 30% more revenue from every customer”; again, this is a claim rather than a benchmark. Before launch, confirm how accepted offers affect inventory, tax, shipping consolidation, discounts, subscriptions, returns, cancellations, currencies and order editing.

Rokt Thanks

Thanks monetizes the confirmation or thank-you page with personalized first-party offers, third-party offers, loyalty rewards and related content. Rokt’s Aftersell pricing page cites approximately $0.30–$0.50 in incremental profit per order for Rokt Thanks. That figure is company-reported and its definition, products and period should be confirmed before using it in a forecast.

Rokt Ecommerce versus Rokt Ads

Rokt Ecommerce helps the merchant or other ecommerce partner optimize and monetize its own transaction journey. Rokt Ads is the advertiser-facing acquisition channel: a brand presents an offer to shoppers on Rokt partner properties.

Rokt says Ads uses a dynamic cost-per-click model with a first-price auction and can optimize toward objectives such as CPA, ROAS, customer acquisition, lifetime value, installs, orders or sales. Paying per click is not the same as receiving a guaranteed CPA or return. Rokt publishes average global claims of a 4.03% click-through rate and 6.32% conversion rate; comparisons require the date, geography, campaign definitions and attribution method. See Rokt Ads.

Rokt’s public materials report more than 10 billion ecommerce transactions annually and its Ads documentation reported 165 million monthly active users as of July 2025. These are company-reported network figures, not a promise that every advertiser receives every audience, placement or country.

How Rokt makes money

Merchant economics can include referral or advertising revenue, incremental product sales, payment-related revenue and upsell value. Rokt says it returns $7 of every $8 in generated value to partners; the definition of “value generated,” products covered and period should be established in the commercial proposal. Advertisers buy access to transaction-stage audiences under their campaign terms.

A published Shopify platform-services agreement gives one pricing signal for certain upsell campaigns after a free trial: a fee of 1% of gross transaction value generated by each upsell, capped at $5,000 per month, plus a $19 monthly recurring fee. Custom terms may apply, so this is not a universal price list for Rokt, enterprise deployments, Ads, Pay+, Catalog or every geography.

Data privacy and brand safety

Rokt says it uses permissioned first-party data and transaction context, does not rely on third-party cookies for its core relevance proposition, and designs products to support GDPR and CCPA. Those are Rokt’s stated practices, not a substitute for the merchant’s legal analysis.

A merchant remains responsible for appropriate notice, consent, contractual permissions, retention, data-sharing controls and consumer choices. Ask for the data-processing agreement, cross-border-transfer terms, audience handling, sensitive-category restrictions and deletion process.

Rokt says partners control the content and presentation of offers. The actual control depends on the product, integration, contract and account settings. Confirm category approvals, competitor suppression, frequency limits, mobile design and whether offers can be disabled for particular customers.

Benefits and risks for a merchant

  • Potential benefit: more revenue surfaces without building an entire recommendation, offer-selection and measurement system.
  • Potential benefit: access to third-party product inventory and a commerce-media network.
  • Risk: gross upsell revenue may disappear after fees, shipping, discounts, returns, support and payment costs.
  • Risk: a crowded or irrelevant payment experience can reduce trust or original-order conversion.
  • Risk: third-party offers create reputational exposure around fulfillment, privacy and customer service.
  • Risk: a post-purchase offer can complicate order edits, tax, refunds, cancellations and inventory.
  • Risk: vendor dependence can be excessive for a merchant needing a small, self-service Shopify widget.

Measure incremental revenue with a holdout or other credible test, then subtract Rokt fees, fulfillment, incentives, refunds and support. Also monitor original checkout conversion, complaints, cancellations and repeat purchase.

Implementation checklist

  1. Define the objective: AOV, thank-you-page monetization, third-party products, payment conversion or customer acquisition.
  2. Select the stage and product: Upcart for cart, Pay+ for payment, Aftersell for post-purchase, Thanks for confirmation, Catalog for third-party products or Ads for acquisition.
  3. Set brand controls: categories, creative, frequency, exclusions, eligibility, geography and competitor restrictions.
  4. Test accepted and declined offers on mobile and desktop without breaking the original order.
  5. Validate tax, shipping, refunds, cancellations, subscriptions, currency and order-edit behavior.
  6. Agree on attribution, reporting, holdouts and the definition of incremental value.

Rokt compared with alternatives

Option Where it is strongest How it differs from Rokt
Rebuy Shopify merchandising, bundles, cart logic and post-purchase upsells More direct catalog and onsite control; Rebuy Monetize places partner offers on post-purchase pages. See post-purchase and Monetize.
Nosto Recommendations, search, merchandising, bundles and personalized email Broader shopping-journey personalization; pricing depends on volume, modules and support. See Nosto pricing.
Shopify-native tools Core store, checkout and simpler extensions Shopify does not provide Rokt’s closed advertiser network or transaction-offer marketplace. Published plans list Basic $29/month yearly-billed, Grow $79, Advanced $299 and Plus from $2,300; billing and features vary. See Shopify pricing.
Internal build Maximum control and custom business logic Requires engineering, experimentation, partner sourcing, compliance, brand safety and reporting infrastructure.

Who is Rokt suitable for?

Rokt is most plausible for high-volume merchants, marketplaces, travel or ticketing businesses, and enterprises with substantial post-purchase traffic that want several transaction-stage products or third-party offer monetization. It can also suit advertisers seeking a commerce-media channel.

It may be a poor fit for a small store wanting transparent, low-cost self-service software; a brand unwilling to show outside offers; or a tightly regulated business that needs complete control over every checkout message. Request a proposal before assuming the Shopify example pricing applies.

Questions to ask before signing

  • What are all platform, implementation, revenue-share, campaign, data and minimum-commitment fees?
  • Which products, placements, countries, currencies and platforms are actually available?
  • Who is merchant of record and who handles fulfillment, support, tax, refunds and cancellations?
  • Can we approve categories, suppress competitors and exclude customers or sensitive segments?
  • What data is collected, retained, shared or transferred, and under what consent and contract terms?
  • How are incrementality, attribution windows, refunds and cannibalized purchases reported?
  • What happens to accepted offers, customer data and analytics when the contract ends?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Rokt an advertising platform or an ecommerce tool?

Both, but for different buyers. Rokt Ecommerce helps partners monetize transaction stages; Rokt Ads helps advertisers acquire customers on those partner properties.

Does Rokt replace Shopify or a payment processor?

No. Rokt generally operates alongside existing commerce and checkout infrastructure. Pay+ should not be treated as a payment-processor replacement without specific contractual documentation.

Does Rokt guarantee more revenue?

No. Claims such as “up to 25%” for Upcart and “up to 30%” for Aftersell are vendor claims, not guarantees. Test incremental net value for your own business.
