DashPass is DoorDash’s automatically renewing membership. In the U.S., it can provide $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees on eligible orders, plus member offers and 5% back in DoorDash credits on eligible pickup orders. It does not remove every charge or guarantee the lowest total price. It is most likely to pay off for frequent users who meet each merchant’s displayed subtotal minimum—or for customers who receive the membership through a qualifying student, employer, promotion, or Chase-card benefit.
What is DashPass?
DashPass is a recurring subscription attached to your DoorDash account, not a coupon or delivery guarantee. Benefits apply automatically only when the merchant participates, the order meets the displayed subtotal minimum, and the order type qualifies. Participating merchants display the DashPass logo. DoorDash says benefits may also be available through Caviar, but platform-specific offers and rules can differ. See DoorDash’s DashPass overview.
DoorDash can change merchant eligibility, fees, and terms, and delivery remains subject to geographic and driver availability.
What DashPass includes
| Benefit | What it actually means |
|---|---|
| $0 delivery fee | No delivery fee on qualifying orders from participating merchants after the required subtotal is met. |
| Reduced service fee | The service fee is lowered, not necessarily eliminated. |
| Member offers | Selected discounts and promotions whose availability and value vary. |
| 5% pickup credits | Eligible pickup orders can earn DoorDash credits, not cash. |
| More categories | Restaurants and, where available, grocery, convenience, retail, and alcohol orders. |
| Caviar | DashPass benefits may apply where Caviar participates, with potentially different details. |

What DashPass does not cover
- Taxes and tips
- All service fees
- Small-order fees
- Surge, alcohol-related, merchant-specific, or other applicable charges
- Differences between DoorDash menu prices and prices from the restaurant or store directly
A $0 delivery line does not mean a $0-fee order or the cheapest available total.
How much does DashPass cost?
These are DoorDash’s listed U.S. prices as of August 16, 2026. Pricing, taxes, promotions, and account-specific offers can change; treat the price shown at signup as final.
| Plan | Listed price | Effective monthly cost |
|---|---|---|
| Standard monthly | $9.99 per month | $9.99 |
| Standard annual | $96 per year, paid upfront | $8 when used for all 12 months |
| Student monthly | $4.99 per month | $4.99 |
| Student annual | $48 per year, paid upfront | $4 when used for all 12 months |
An annual plan is cheaper only if you use it long enough to recover the upfront payment and accept that subscription fees are generally nonrefundable.

Order minimums are merchant-specific
There is no single permanent nationwide DashPass threshold. The app or website displays the eligible subtotal minimum for each merchant and location. It is calculated before taxes, fees, and tips. If your basket is below it, DoorDash may show how much more you need to add; delivery and service benefits may not apply until you reach the threshold.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIs DashPass worth it?
Use your real checkout rather than the advertising headline:
Monthly value = eligible delivery-fee savings + service-fee savings + usable credits and discounts.
Rank #3
Compare that value with your subscription cost. At $9.99 per month, you need more than $9.99 of value in a typical month. Two qualifying orders saving about $5 each are approximately break-even; three orders saving $4 each are likely worthwhile. One order saving $3 is not enough on subscription savings alone. These are hypothetical illustrations, not guaranteed DoorDash savings.
Who is most likely to benefit?
- People placing at least two or three qualifying orders monthly
- Users who also order groceries, convenience items, retail, or alcohol where eligible
- Customers who regularly use member offers or pickup credits
- Anyone receiving DashPass free or discounted through an existing benefit
Who should probably skip it?
- Occasional users
- Pickup-first customers
- People whose baskets often miss the minimum
- Anyone subscribing for one promotion or one planned order
- Customers focused on the lowest complete total rather than lower delivery fees
Also ask whether the membership changes your behavior. Saving $5 on an order you already planned is different from placing extra orders because they feel cheaper.
Check the complete total, not just delivery
Before subscribing, compare the same basket on DoorDash, the merchant’s own site, and—when practical—in-store pricing. Check menu or item prices, delivery and service fees, small-order charges, taxes, tip, coupons, and loyalty rewards. Grocery and retail orders can still be poor value when item prices differ or the reduced service fee is small.

How to verify that an order qualifies
- Open DoorDash or DoorDash.com.
- Choose a merchant showing the DashPass logo.
- Add items until the displayed subtotal minimum is met.
- Open checkout and inspect delivery, service, tax, tip, small-order, and other fee lines.
- Confirm the delivery fee is $0 and the service fee is reduced before placing the order.
- Record the actual savings for your break-even calculation.
DoorDash says qualifying savings should appear at checkout. Interface labels can change, so follow the current account and checkout controls.
DashPass for students
DoorDash lists student pricing at $4.99 monthly or $48 annually. Eligibility requirements apply; its terms refer to qualifying enrollment at an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university. Eligible Chegg Study or Chegg Study Pack subscribers may receive a free student membership, but the qualifying service can have its own cost and renewal terms. Compare that cost with your actual DoorDash use, campus minimums, pickup options, and meal-plan alternatives.
Free DashPass through Chase and other benefits
Chase benefits are card-specific. DoorDash lists offers for products including Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Preferred, certain Freedom cards, and other eligible cards; free periods, credits, activation deadlines, and promotions differ. See the card partnership page and your card’s terms.

Chase’s published terms say eligible activation between February 1, 2025, and December 31, 2027, can qualify for 12 months of complimentary DashPass under the applicable offer. Afterward, the account may convert to the then-current paid monthly plan unless canceled. A card benefit is not a free credit card: consider annual fees, interest, eligibility, and rewards before applying.

Trials and promotional prices are offered only to eligible accounts. When the trial or promotion ends, the selected plan generally converts to a paid, automatically renewing subscription. Check Manage DashPass and Billing History in your account for the next billing date; do not rely on memory. DoorDash’s terms generally make subscription fees nonrefundable, subject to applicable law and stated exceptions. Cancel before renewal if you do not want another charge.
How to cancel DashPass safely
- Open your DoorDash account or subscription settings.
- Select Manage DashPass or the current equivalent.
- Choose cancellation and complete every confirmation prompt.
- Save the confirmation screen or email.
- Recheck membership status and the next billing date.
Cancellation generally stops future renewal without an additional cancellation fee; it does not necessarily refund the current period, and benefits may continue until that period ends. See DoorDash’s U.S. consumer terms.
When DashPass benefits do not appear
- Confirm you are signed in to the account with the active membership.
- Check the merchant’s DashPass logo and the displayed minimum.
- Verify the subtotal excludes taxes, fees, and tip when measuring the minimum.
- Confirm the order type qualifies.
- If using Chase or another promotion, verify the correct card or benefit is linked to this account.
- Review the checkout fee breakdown, membership status, and billing history.
If every condition is met and the benefit is missing, contact DoorDash support and retain the receipt.

Alternatives to consider
- Order directly: May avoid platform pricing differences and can earn restaurant loyalty rewards.
- Pickup: Often avoids delivery fees and tips; compare direct rewards with DashPass’s 5% DoorDash credits.
- Uber One or Grubhub+: Consider them only if their current official benefits fit your restaurants, rides, or existing memberships.
- Store-specific programs: A grocery chain or restaurant group may be better for repeat orders after comparing minimums, item prices, delivery radius, and rewards.
- No subscription: Pay per order when your usage is irregular.
Verdict
DashPass is usually worth it for frequent, eligible users who can document more than the subscription price in monthly fee savings, credits, or offers. It is a reasonable “maybe” when two or three orders come close to break-even. It is probably not worthwhile for occasional or pickup-first users, small baskets that miss minimums, or anyone who has not compared the complete delivered total with direct ordering. A free existing benefit can make the decision easier, but it still does not make every DoorDash order the cheapest option.
