Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote discussed potential investments in Egypt on October 3, 2026, in New Alamein. The reported sectors were energy, fertilizers, chemicals and cement. No agreement was signed, and no project value or timetable was announced, so the meeting marks discussions—not a confirmed investment. Ahram Online reported the meeting during the Alamein Africa business forum.
What is Dangote Group?
Dangote Group is a Nigerian industrial conglomerate founded in 1981. Its principal holding company, Dangote Industries Limited, is headquartered in Lagos. The group’s stated businesses span cement, petroleum refining, petrochemicals, fertilizers, sugar, salt, seasonings, agriculture, packaging and logistics.
Aliko Dangote is the group’s founder and president/chief executive. The Ahram Online factbox identifies him as a graduate of Al-Azhar University in Cairo. The group’s stated founding date is distinct from Dangote’s earlier trading activity: he entered rice, sugar and cement trading in 1978.
Publicly listed businesses
Dangote Cement, Dangote Sugar Refinery and NASCON Allied Industries are identified as listed companies. NASCON produces salt and seasonings. The group also operates businesses across industrial sectors, but a diversified portfolio does not mean every announced project is already operating.

How large is Dangote Group’s existing industrial footprint?
Cement
Dangote Cement’s website lists 55 million tonnes of annual installed capacity across 10 countries, as reported by Ahram Online in 2026. Installed capacity is the amount facilities could produce under their rated capacity; it is not a figure for actual annual production.
Refining and petrochemicals
The Lekki refinery near Lagos began processing crude in 2024. Ahram Online reports its stated capacity as 700,000 barrels per day, with expansion to 1.4 million barrels per day planned. The refinery website also advertises 830,000 tonnes per year of polypropylene capacity at the complex. These are stated capacity figures, not evidence of actual output at those levels.

The facility’s stated products include petrol, diesel, aviation fuel and liquefied petroleum gas. In September 2026, a $1.6 billion share offering for the refinery was launched to help finance expansion; the reported scheduled closing date was October 13, 2026. That date has passed, and the cited report does not establish the offering’s eventual status.
Fertilizers
The group’s Nigerian fertilizer complex has a reported first-phase urea capacity of 3 million tonnes a year and a stated construction cost of $2.5 billion. Dangote reportedly outlined expansion plans targeting 12 million tonnes of annual capacity and hoped to list the fertilizer business in 2027. The expansion and listing are forward-looking plans, not completed milestones.

Which other projects are announced or planned?
Kenya: proposed Lamu refinery
Dangote broke ground on a planned refinery in Lamu on September 30, 2026. The announced project is valued at $16 billion, targets capacity of 700,000 barrels per day and has a target completion date of 2030. Those figures describe plans, not an operating refinery or completed investment. Ahram Online also reports land-rights litigation and environmental objections.
Ethiopia and Djibouti
Dangote Group said in May 2026 that its declared and signed investments in Ethiopia exceeded $4 billion. Separately, in September 2026 it announced a petroleum pipeline and storage venture involving Ethiopia and Djibouti, valued at $660 million. The reported figures relate to distinct announcements and should not be treated as evidence that either venture is complete.

How should the group’s financial figures be read?
Ahram Online reported that Aliko Dangote’s estimated personal fortune was $28.5 billion on the Forbes 2026 list, based on prices and exchange rates as of March 1, 2026. That estimate concerns an individual’s wealth; it is not Dangote Group revenue, cash, or asset value.
The group has an ambition of reaching $100 billion in annual revenue by 2030, supported by Afreximbank, according to the report. This is a future target, not current turnover. The factbox does not provide a current group revenue figure.
What the Egypt discussions do—and do not—establish
- Established: the two leaders discussed potential investment in four sectors—energy, fertilizers, chemicals and cement—on October 3, 2026.
- Not established: a signed agreement, specific Egyptian project, investment value, funding commitment or timetable.
- Useful distinction: Dangote’s operating businesses and stated capacities show the group’s industrial reach, but they do not confirm that it will build or invest in any particular Egyptian facility.
These details and attributed figures are reported in Ahram Online’s October 3, 2026 factbox: “Factbox: Dangote Group, the African industrial conglomerate eyeing Egypt.”
