It may be a public marketing site, a lead-generation site, a self-service ecommerce store, a customer portal, or a combination of these.
The defining feature is not a corporate design, a login, or hidden pricing. It is the audience and buying context: organizational buyers, multiple stakeholders, longer or more complex evaluation, negotiated terms, technical requirements, and continuing business relationships.
What does B2B website mean?
B2B stands for business-to-business: a company sells products or services to another organization rather than primarily to individual consumers. Examples include software sold to companies, industrial equipment sold to manufacturers, wholesale goods sold to retailers, and accounting, logistics, cybersecurity, recruitment, legal, advertising, or consulting services sold to organizations. HubSpot’s B2B glossary uses the term for these company-to-company transactions.
A B2B website is the digital system supporting that relationship. It can explain a complex offer, prove its value, qualify demand, accept an order, provide account-specific information, or help an existing customer get service.

Common types of B2B websites
| Type | Main job | Typical audience |
|---|---|---|
| Marketing website | Build awareness, trust and qualified opportunities | Prospects and influencers |
| Lead-generation website | Capture and qualify demand | Prospects ready for follow-up |
| B2B ecommerce website | Let companies research, quote, order and reorder | Buyers and procurement teams |
| Customer portal | Manage orders, documents, support or service | Existing customers |
| Marketplace | Connect multiple businesses in a multi-vendor environment | Buyers and suppliers |
| B2B SaaS website | Explain and sell software subscriptions | Decision-makers, users and technical evaluators |
These categories can coexist. A manufacturer might have a public product site, a dealer portal and an account-based ordering store.
What makes a website B2B?
Use this practical test: if the experience is designed around organizational buyers, business problems, multiple stakeholders, complex evaluation, account relationships or commercial workflows, it is functioning as a B2B website.
- Organizational audience: The visitor is evaluating a purchase for a company, not only personal use.
- Buying group: An end user, manager, executive, finance, legal, procurement, security or IT may influence the decision. Gartner’s research describes this multi-person pattern in complex B2B buying groups; it should not be treated as a rule for every purchase (Gartner).
- Higher perceived risk: The choice may affect operations, revenue, compliance, security, staffing or customer service.
- Longer or non-linear journey: Visitors may move among education, product pages, comparisons, demonstrations, sales conversations and third-party research before deciding (HubSpot’s buyer-journey guide).
- Business-specific terms: Pricing, tax treatment, purchase orders, credit, locations, permissions, contracts or implementation may vary by account.
A B2B site does not require a minimum company size, a login, visible pricing, software, or a particular color palette. It also does not have to replace sales representatives. The right objective is to give each buyer an efficient next step, whether that is learning, requesting a quote, ordering, or getting help.
B2B website versus B2C website
The following are tendencies, not rigid design rules. A small business can have a simple B2B purchase, and a consumer purchase can involve considerable research.

| Content depth | Outcomes, specifications, integrations, security, implementation and proof | Benefits, reviews, price, availability and ease of use |
| Pricing | May use tiers, volume discounts, contracts, account pricing or quotes | Usually a public price and standardized checkout |
| Conversion | Demo, consultation, trial, quote, purchase order or account order | Buy now, subscribe or sign up |
| Account needs | Companies, locations, roles, approvals, invoices and reorder history | Usually an individual account and personal payment |
| After purchase | Onboarding, support, training, renewal, expansion and repeat orders | Delivery, support, returns and repeat purchase |
What are the goals of a B2B website?
Awareness
Explain the category and problem, establish credibility and capture relevant search demand.
Consideration
Help visitors assess fit with use cases, comparisons, specifications, integrations, demonstrations and customer evidence.
Decision
Make pricing or a quote path understandable, and answer implementation, support, security and contractual questions.
Customer enablement
Support onboarding, documentation, training, reordering, account management, service requests, renewal and expansion.
Essential pages and features
Core pages
- Homepage that states the audience, problem, offer, proof and next action.
- Solutions or services overview and individual product or service pages.
- Industry, role or use-case pages where needs genuinely differ.
- About or company page, customer stories and case studies.
- Resources, guides, documentation and support content.
- Pricing, plans, quote or purchasing information.
- Contact, demo, trial or consultation page.
- Privacy, terms, accessibility and other required legal pages.
Frequently overlooked pages
- Security and compliance information.
- Integrations, implementation and migration details.
- Comparison, alternatives, ROI or total-cost-of-ownership pages.
- Procurement, partner or reseller resources.
- Status page and role-specific landing pages.
- For ecommerce: shipping, returns, tax, payment terms, inventory and order-history information.
What a product or service page must answer
A useful page explains what the offer is, who it serves, which problem it solves, how it works, expected outcomes, integrations, implementation, pricing logic, supporting proof and the next step. HubSpot’s product-page guidance notes that buyers commonly use product pages, case studies, pricing and other material before speaking with sales.

Features for B2B ecommerce
- Company accounts, locations, user roles and approval workflows.
- Account-specific catalogs, price lists, volume discounts and minimum order quantities.
- SKU or part-number search, bulk ordering and reordering.
- Quote requests, purchase orders, payment terms and tax handling.
- Inventory visibility, shipping rules, invoices and order history.
- Customer-specific permissions and connections to ERP, CRM, accounting and fulfillment systems.
Shopify’s B2B documentation distinguishes dedicated and blended stores and recommends testing the experience with a test customer. Its developer documentation covers companies, locations, customer context and account-specific price visibility (Shopify developer docs).
What should a B2B homepage say?
Within seconds, the homepage should make five points clear:
- Who the company serves.
- What business problem it solves.
- What the offer is in plain language.
- Why the buyer should believe the claims.
- What the visitor can do next.
A practical formula is: “We help [specific businesses or roles] achieve [valuable outcome] by [plain-language explanation of the offer].” Replace vague phrases such as “unlock growth” with concrete outcomes such as reducing invoice processing, shortening quote turnaround or centralizing compliance documents.
Content and conversion paths by buyer state
| Buyer state | Useful content | Appropriate CTA |
|---|---|---|
| Problem unaware | Educational articles, research and diagnostic tools | Read, learn or subscribe |
| Problem aware | Solution explainers, guides and checklists | Download, compare or explore |
| Evaluating options | Product pages, demonstrations, case studies and integrations | View demo, compare or see proof |
| Near decision | Pricing, security, implementation, FAQs and terms | Request quote, start trial or contact sales |
| Existing customer | Documentation, account tools and support | Log in, reorder or get help |
| Expansion | Add-on use cases and customer education | Upgrade, add seats or speak with the account team |
Possible paths include buying now, starting a trial, requesting a demo or quote, booking a consultation, downloading technical material, creating an account, logging in to reorder, contacting support or finding a partner. Do not force every visitor into a “Contact sales” form.
B2B website examples: what to study
Examples are useful as strategy lessons, not proof that a site is universally best. HubSpot’s roundup includes Blake Envelopes, Pixelgrade, Reputation Squad and vAuto; examine the positioning and pathways rather than copying their visual style.
SaaS product website
Look for role- or industry-specific navigation, interactive demonstrations, integration and security details, pricing or trial paths, and customer proof. Do not copy a trial-first model if your product requires configuration or a security review.
Industrial manufacturer
Study specifications, applications, documentation, representative locators, service information and quote workflows. A manufacturer should not hide technical data behind a generic inquiry form.

Wholesale or distribution site
Study part-number search, account login, customer pricing, bulk order, reorder, inventory, shipping and payment information. These workflows require accurate operational data, not only a polished catalog.
Professional-services firm
Study expertise organized by client problem, named experts, industry specialization, case studies and consultation paths. A firm should not claim outcomes it cannot substantiate.

How to build a B2B website
- Define the commercial goal. Decide whether the priority is qualified pipeline, self-service orders, support deflection, retention or a combination.
- Interview customers and internal teams. Ask buyers, prospects, sales, service and subject-matter experts which questions and objections recur.
- Map buying groups and jobs. Document what executives, economic buyers, technical evaluators, users and procurement need to know.
- Audit content and data. Review existing pages, analytics, search queries, product data, pricing, integrations and lost-deal reasons.
- Design information architecture. Organize navigation by buyer problems, products, industries or use cases rather than internal departments alone.
- Create page briefs and proof. Define the audience, outcome, evidence, objections and CTA for every high-value page.
- Select the platform by requirements. Evaluate content, commerce, integrations, permissions, performance, portability and total cost before choosing a brand.
- Build the highest-value journeys first. Prioritize the homepage, key solution pages, product pages, proof, pricing or quote flow and support paths.
- Connect operational systems. Synchronize CRM, ERP, inventory, tax, shipping, account pricing, analytics and fulfillment data.
- Test realistic tasks. Ask representative users to find a product, compare options, locate security information, request a quote, download specifications or reorder.
- Launch with ownership. Assign content owners, review dates, approval workflows, measurement and retirement rules.
- Iterate on qualified outcomes. Improve pages based on qualified pipeline, quote-to-order, repeat ordering, support outcomes and customer feedback.
B2B website best practices
Lead with the buyer’s problem
Put relevance before company history. Explain the problem, audience and outcome above the fold, then use the company story to support trust.
Write for the whole buying group
Create material a champion can forward internally: a one-page overview, business case, technical requirements, security details, implementation plan, pricing explanation and customer proof.
Make proof specific
Case studies should identify the customer type, challenge, solution, implementation context and measurable result where permission allows. Generic praise is weak evidence.
Give information before requesting data
Ungated product, comparison, pricing and implementation information can reduce friction. Reserve forms for genuinely valuable assets or high-intent actions, and align fields with sales qualification.
Treat pricing as a strategic choice
- Publish prices when packages are standardized and self-service qualification is useful.
- Show starting prices or ranges when volume, usage, add-ons, term or region changes the total.
- Use a quote path when scope is engineered, configured, negotiated or heavily affected by implementation.
Even without an exact figure, explain what is included, which variables affect cost and what happens after a quote request.
Make the next step logical
Link an educational article to a solution page, a solution page to proof, a case study to the product, and a product page to a demo, quote, pricing or documentation path.

- Use HTTPS, secure forms, role-based portal access, privacy controls, backups, recovery plans and documented governance.
Connect promises to operations
A front end cannot compensate for incorrect product data, inventory, account pricing, tax, shipping, permissions, CRM status or order history. Data synchronization is part of the customer experience.

Separate business outcomes from diagnostic engagement signals. Business measures can include qualified leads, marketing-sourced pipeline, revenue sourced or influenced, demo-to-opportunity rate, quote-to-order rate, ecommerce conversion, average order value, repeat orders, retention, expansion, self-service adoption and support-case deflection.
Diagnostic measures include form completion, CTA click-through, product-page engagement, internal search use, key-page exits, page speed, mobile conversion, content-assisted conversions and organic landing-page performance. Webflow’s B2B guidance lists pageviews, time on site and email signups as common indicators; treat them as clues, not substitutes for pipeline or revenue.

Marketing site, ecommerce site or hybrid?
Choose primarily a marketing site when
- The offering is consultative, customized or difficult to price in advance.
- The sale requires discovery, legal, security or technical review.
- The primary goal is qualified conversation.
Choose self-service commerce when
- Products are standardized and repeatable.
- Buyers know what they need and benefit from quick ordering.
- Account pricing, inventory, fulfillment and payment systems can integrate reliably.
Choose a hybrid when
- Prospects need education while existing customers need login-based ordering or support.
- Some products are self-service and others require sales.
- The business serves both B2B and consumer customers.
Which platform is right for a B2B website?
| Platform or category | Potential fit | Main caution |
|---|---|---|
| Webflow | Design-led, hosted marketing and content sites; visual control for teams and agencies | Complex account commerce, ERP workflows and custom backend behavior may require substantial integration |
| HubSpot Content Hub | CRM-connected forms, content, personalization and marketing operations | May be poor value as a standalone low-cost CMS or for sophisticated wholesale commerce |
| Self-hosted WordPress | Content-heavy or highly customized sites with development support | The owner must manage hosting, updates, backups, security, plugins and performance; distinguish it from WordPress.com (WordPress.org, WordPress.com pricing) |
| Shopify B2B | Manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors needing companies, locations, account pricing and repeat ordering | Confirm support for specialized procurement, quoting and ERP workflows; a consumer entry plan is not the full implementation cost (Shopify B2B) |
| Wix Studio or similar builder | Smaller companies needing a relatively simple marketing site | Complex governance, enterprise permissions, integrations and B2B commerce may exceed its practical fit (Wix Studio) |
| Custom application or portal | Specialized account, workflow, data or integration requirements | Higher build, testing, security and maintenance responsibility |
For Webflow, prices observed on August 18, 2026 were Free Starter, Basic at $15 per month billed yearly, Premium at $25 per month billed yearly and ecommerce plans beginning at $29 per month billed yearly. These USD prices may exclude taxes and can change; see Webflow’s pricing page and its 2026 plan-change notice.

Evaluate every platform against content needs, editing workflow, CRM and marketing integration, account and commerce rules, search, performance, security, analytics, migration, portability, vendor lock-in and total cost of ownership. Include implementation, integrations, data migration, maintenance, plugins, hosting, transaction fees and staff time—not just the subscription.
How much does a B2B website cost?
There is no meaningful universal price. Cost depends on strategy and research, positioning, copywriting, design, development, CMS or commerce licensing, integrations, product-data migration, content migration, accessibility, security, analytics, hosting and ongoing maintenance.
A simple marketing site and an account-based ordering portal are different projects. Request a scope that identifies pages, workflows, integrations, data ownership, testing, accessibility, training, support and change control instead of comparing headline platform prices alone.
Common failure modes
Polished but unclear
Rewrite vague hero copy around a specific audience, problem, outcome and proof.
One stakeholder only
Add executive value, economic rationale, technical requirements, user practicality and procurement or security information.
Every CTA says “Contact sales”
Offer education, comparisons, documentation, pricing, trials, support and self-service actions for visitors who are not ready to talk.
Brochure mistaken for ecommerce
Map account pricing, inventory, payment terms, approvals, tax, fulfillment and synchronization before launching a catalog.
Personalization before fundamentals
Make navigation, messaging and product information clear for everyone before adding complex targeting.
Recommended Free Tools
Outdated content
Assign owners, review dates, approval workflows and retirement rules for pricing, products, resources and compliance claims.
Incorrect account information
Test permissions, locations, catalogs, prices, inventory, taxes and integrations with test customer accounts before inviting customers to order.
