Elon Musk posted a BioShock screenshot on X on June 16, 2025, with the caption “Anyone else think of this yesterday?” The image showed the words “No Gods or Kings. Only Man.” The post followed the June 14 “No Kings” demonstrations, but Musk did not explain what he meant.
What did Musk post?
Musk shared an image from the video game BioShock. It showed a banner reading “No Gods or Kings. Only Man.” His accompanying post on X said: “Anyone else think of this yesterday?” Futurism reproduced the post and image in its account of the message.
The word “yesterday” points to June 14, 2025: the date of the No Kings demonstrations and President Donald Trump’s birthday military parade. Musk’s post appeared on June 16, two days after those events.
What were the June 14 No Kings protests?
The demonstrations were organized as a counterpoint to Trump’s military parade. Before the event, organizers described No Kings as “a nationwide day of defiance” and said it was intended “to reject authoritarianism,” according to Axios’s advance report. The movement’s current site characterizes its events as nonpartisan and says participants are expected to act lawfully and nonviolently; those are organizers’ descriptions, not independent findings about every participant.
Axios reported organizers’ advance estimate that millions might attend more than 1,900 events in nearly 1,800 cities across all 50 states and Puerto Rico. That was a forecast made before June 14, not a verified final attendance count.

Not the same event as February’s protests
The June demonstrations should not be confused with earlier protests organized by 50501. The Associated Press reported that 50501 held Presidents Day protests on February 17, 2025, under a “No Kings” theme; those demonstrations also criticized Trump and Musk. See the AP’s report on the February protests.

Not in the quoted post. Its meaning is unclear. Futurism raised two possible readings: Musk could have been criticizing Trump, or he could have been invoking Andrew Ryan, the fictional industrialist who founded BioShock’s underwater city of Rapture. Neither interpretation is established as Musk’s intent, so they should be treated as speculation rather than a confirmed political statement.
