The filename Semiconductor chip hidden among large-denomination dollar bills Getty Images.jpg describes an image, not the story behind it. It does not identify the chip, confirm which currency denomination appears, or establish a connection to semiconductor policy, investing, or a particular law.

What the filename tells you—and what it doesn’t

The wording suggests a semiconductor chip pictured among large-denomination dollar bills. Without the original Getty Images asset record or its caption, that description cannot establish the image’s creator, date, exact banknote denomination, or intended meaning. It is not enough to identify the picture as an illustration of the CHIPS Act, a specific investment, or any particular economic claim.

A separate Getty listing for a 2010 photograph of a $100-note unveiling credits photographer Chip Somodevilla. That is a different image and does not verify any detail about this JPEG or its licensing. Getty Images listing

Why the dollar bills can’t be identified from this description

Dollar notes have denomination-specific features, but the filename does not say which note is shown. For example, the U.S. Currency program lists an embedded security thread, a 3-D security ribbon, a watermark, color-shifting ink, and microprinting among features of modern $100 notes. Those details describe $100 notes generally; they do not prove the pictured bills are $100s. U.S. Currency: $100 note

Genuine $1 notes are printed on paper made of one-fourth linen and three-fourths cotton, with red and blue security fibers. That is general information about $1 notes, not evidence that the image contains them. U.S. Currency: $1 note

For a separate, current production detail, a Federal Reserve Financial Services notice published September 15, 2026 says the U.S. Currency Program is producing $1, $2, $5, and $20 notes on new equipment. The notice says availability of nonsequential straps depends on local inventories and distribution schedules; it does not identify the notes in this image. Federal Reserve Financial Services notice

Could the image be about semiconductor policy?

It could be used as a visual metaphor for the financial stakes or economic importance of semiconductors, but the filename alone does not establish that interpretation. The CHIPS Act is one possible connection: the Semiconductor Industry Association’s 2024 report says the 2022 Act appropriated more than $52 billion for semiconductor-industry support. That figure is the association’s characterization in its report, not an independently attributed government estimate, and it does not show that the image concerns the Act. What would confirm the image’s meaning?

  • Find the original Getty asset record or the article where the image appeared, then check its caption and credit.
  • Use the caption or asset record—not the filename alone—to verify the creator, date, depicted banknote, and licensing details.
  • Only connect the image to a policy, investment, or currency-authentication claim if the surrounding article or asset information supports that interpretation.

Who issues U.S. paper money?

The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System says it is the issuing authority for Federal Reserve notes and works with the Treasury, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, and the Secret Service on counterfeiting threats and redesign decisions. It describes its responsibilities as including ensuring an adequate supply of paper money and protecting confidence in U.S. currency. Federal Reserve: U.S. currency
