Without the image or its metadata, it is not possible to tell whether it shows a processor, another integrated circuit, or a different small electronic device.
What can you identify from the phrase alone?
Not much beyond the visual: a person is holding a small chip-like object. Image captions use similar wording for different things, including integrated circuits, microcontrollers, SIM cards, and circuit boards. The phrase is therefore not enough to identify a model, manufacturer, purpose, or product for sale. Shutterstock’s image-search results illustrate the range of objects described with these terms.
One example: a chip used in imaging radar
IEEE Spectrum’s article “Steradian’s 4D Imaging Radar Aims to Make Self-Driving Cars Smarter” includes a related image of a hand holding a chip and identifies that example as Steradian’s automotive radar transceiver. That does not establish that the chip in any other image with a similar caption is the same device.
What the Steradian chip does
In the system described by IEEE Spectrum, the chip is an integrated 16-channel MIMO transceiver—a component that sends and receives radar signals. The article reports that it was made using a 28-nanometer CMOS process and operated in the 76–81 GHz band. Those specifications describe this Steradian example, not computer chips generally.

The radar system also uses an imaging and processing chip to turn the returned signals into images. The article says the system can track distance, speed, elevation angle, and azimuth. It describes potential uses in autonomous vehicles and intelligent transportation infrastructure, such as monitoring traffic on highways or at intersections; those are proposed applications, not proof of deployment in a particular setting.
How the article compares radar with lidar
IEEE Spectrum’s article says lidar had superior angular resolution at the time it was written. Steradian CTO and cofounder Apu Sivadas believed that modern radar chipsets combined with AI could eventually narrow the difference. That is a historical comparison and an attributed forecast, not a current, independent benchmark. The article’s publication or update year is not exposed on the accessible page, so the comparison should not be treated as a statement of today’s performance.

Sivadas told IEEE Spectrum: “The radar echoes contain a wealth of hidden information, which we felt the existing technology used in autonomous vehicles could not fully harness.” This is his view of the technology’s potential, rather than an independently established conclusion.

No specific product follows from the wording alone. Although the IEEE Spectrum example is a specialist automotive radar chipset, the article does not establish a consumer product or a retail model that a reader can identify from the caption. A general microcontroller kit or chip-handling tool would not be a grounded recommendation for this image description.
