It could mean a simple upward arrow or a chart showing a rising trend. If you saw it in a financial app, the surrounding chart or label matters: the symbol alone does not establish what increased or whether that change is good.
Which symbol are you looking at?
Unicode distinguishes the plain directional arrow from the chart emoji. Its emoji list labels U+2B06 as “up arrow” and U+1F4C8 as “chart increasing.” The chart emoji’s character name in Unicode’s character names list is “CHART WITH UPWARDS TREND.”
| Symbol | Unicode identifier and label | What its shape suggests |
|---|---|---|
| ⬆ | U+2B06 — “up arrow” | A direction: up or north. Unicode’s annotations include “arrow,” “direction,” and “up.” |
| 📈 | U+1F4C8 — “chart increasing”; character name “CHART WITH UPWARDS TREND” | A chart or upward trend. Unicode’s annotations include “chart,” “graph,” “growth,” and “trend.” |
Unicode’s versioned standard chart also identifies the chart-with-upwards-trend character. The two glyphs are not interchangeable: one is a directional arrow; the other is associated with a rising chart.
Does “green” identify the Unicode character?
No. The Unicode label and annotations for U+2B06 do not specify green as an inherent color, and the phrase “green arrow going up” does not uniquely identify a code point. It may simply describe how a particular device, app, font, or image draws the symbol. Unicode’s names and annotations identify characters; they do not establish one universal color or platform appearance.

What might it mean in a finance app?
In a financial display, a rising chart may be intended to indicate an upward trend in whatever measure the chart presents. But the icon alone cannot tell you whether the measure is a stock price, account balance, spending, interest rate, or something else. Nor does an upward movement by itself establish that the change is beneficial. Check the nearby metric, time period, labels, and app explanation.

- If it is a simple arrow without a plotted line, U+2B06 is the relevant Unicode up-arrow label.
- If it shows a chart line or bars rising, U+1F4C8 is the chart-increasing emoji.
- If exact appearance or meaning matters, compare the image or check the device and app where it appears; the phrase alone cannot establish its rendering or context.
Unicode notes that its emoji-chart annotations are based on CLDR data and may be updated; for production use, it directs users to consult the data files. See the Unicode emoji chart.
