A crypto exchange bonus is a promotional reward you may earn by meeting the conditions of a particular exchange offer. Those conditions can include who qualifies, what transactions count, how much activity is required, how the reward is calculated, and how long funds or rewards must stay on the platform. Before acting, open the current official terms for the offer shown in your account: a credited bonus may not be immediately withdrawable, and some campaigns reduce or reclaim rewards after certain withdrawals.
What a crypto exchange bonus means
There is no universal exchange-bonus structure. A promotion might reward eligible net inflows, a qualifying deposit, a purchase, a trade, or a combination of actions. Its terms determine the reward—not the word “bonus” in an advertisement.
For example, Coinbase describes funding bonuses based on eligible net inflows brought onto its platform and maintained for a stated period. Depending on the campaign, eligible activity may include buying crypto with external funds, transferring crypto from an external wallet, depositing cash or USDC, sending a wire transfer, or setting up a direct deposit. Coinbase says eligibility and terms vary by region, customer, and campaign. Coinbase’s Funding Bonus overview explains the general program, but your account’s offer terms determine what applies to you.
How to verify an offer before you act
- Find the official, current offer. Open the promotion through the exchange’s official website or app, then read the complete terms and the offer displayed for your account. A headline or referral page may omit important conditions. A Coinbase terms page, for example, includes historical and dated offers; its examples are not proof that a campaign is currently open. Coinbase Funding Bonus Terms and Conditions shows the kinds of provisions to inspect.
- Check whether you qualify. Look for country or state limits, age and account requirements, identity-verification rules, new-customer restrictions, opt-in steps, and whether the offer is targeted to your account. Do not assume that a promotion available to another customer is available to you.
- Write down every deadline. Distinguish the enrollment window from the activity period, transaction settlement deadline, and any later holding or balance-maintenance period. Missing one date can invalidate an otherwise qualifying action.
- Translate the required activity into a precise amount and action. Confirm whether the exchange counts a deposit, transfer, purchase, trade volume, eligible net inflow, or a combination. Check minimums and excluded transaction types, and whether funds must come from outside the platform.
- Work out how the reward is calculated. Identify the rate, eligible-balance definition, cap, valuation time, conversion method, and how withdrawals or other outflows affect the calculation. For instance, Crypto.com’s deposit bonus FAQ gives an example that calculates a bonus by multiplying the eligible net deposit by the bonus rate. That formula is specific to the example, not a universal rule.
- Check when the reward is usable. Find out when it is credited and when it can be withdrawn or transferred off-platform. Also look for forfeiture, clawback, or fee provisions tied to withdrawals, falling below a required balance, or losing a subscription or status.
- Compare the reward with the commitment. Weigh the reward’s amount and form against the funds you must commit, the time they must remain, any required trading and associated fees, and the possibility that crypto prices change while you hold assets. A displayed reward is not necessarily cash you can withdraw right away.
Terms that can change the value of a bonus
Balance maintenance and clawbacks
Some promotions require you to maintain a balance after the qualifying activity. In Crypto.com’s example, the required maintenance period is 12 months; its FAQ describes possible pro-rata clawback fees if a withdrawal takes the balance below the required amount. These are terms of that campaign example, not a general rule for Crypto.com or other exchanges.

Reward withdrawal holds
A reward can be credited but restricted from withdrawal. In the cited Kraken European promotion, the terms require a specified deposit and qualifying trade amount, and the BTC reward is held from withdrawal for 45 days. Those requirements and that hold apply to the cited promotion, not to every Kraken campaign. Kraken’s European deposit promotion terms set out its campaign-specific rules.
Personalized rates, caps, and dates
Rates, caps, offer periods, bonus periods, eligibility, and withdrawal limitations may depend on a specific campaign or personalized offer. Read the terms attached to the offer you can actually claim rather than relying on an old promotion, a general program description, or another customer’s screenshots.

How to compare two real offers
Put the terms side by side before deciding. If a detail is absent, ask the exchange or treat it as unresolved rather than assuming the more favorable interpretation.

The published rules establish campaign-specific examples, not a single standard for all exchange bonuses. Verify the complete terms for your location and account immediately before opting in or moving funds.
