What are Howard Stern’s ratings like? SiriusXM’s official materials reviewed do not disclose a current, show-specific rating or audience total for The Howard Stern Show. The company does publish broader audience and subscriber figures, but those are not the show’s ratings. The best-known historical figure is an Associated Press report that, at its terrestrial-radio peak, the show was syndicated in 60 markets and drew more than 20 million listeners; the report did not specify the peak year or measurement method.

Does SiriusXM release Howard Stern’s ratings?

In its 2026 season announcement and 2025 annual and results materials, SiriusXM described the show’s schedule and the company’s overall audience and subscriber base, but did not publish a current Howard Stern Show rating or show-specific audience total. The absence of a disclosed number does not mean the show has no listeners; it means these materials do not establish how many people listen to the program. SiriusXM’s 2026 season announcement and its annual reports and results materials provide company and distribution context, not a Stern-specific rating.

Why subscriber totals are not the show’s ratings

Several different measures can sound like an audience number, but they describe different things. A rating is tied to a defined program or station, audience measure, geography, and period. A subscriber count measures customers to a service; a companywide monthly audience can include listening across multiple businesses. Neither reveals the audience for one show.

Figure What it measures What it does not establish
Approximately 170 million combined monthly listeners as of December 31, 2025 Sirius XM Holdings’ combined monthly audience across its businesses, as reported by the company. How many listened to The Howard Stern Show.
Approximately 32.9 million U.S. SiriusXM subscribers as of December 31, 2025 The company’s U.S. SiriusXM subscriber count. How many subscribers listened to Stern, or how often they listened.
Approximately 33 million total SiriusXM subscribers at the end of 2025 A rounded company-level subscriber figure in SiriusXM’s 2026 results release. A show-level audience or rating.

The first two figures are reported in SiriusXM’s 2025 annual report; the rounded total appears in its 2026 results release. They should not be compared directly with a show audience without matching the measure, period, geography, and listening platform.

How radio ratings differ from SiriusXM audience figures

Nielsen’s public Topline Ratings service describes estimates for radio stations in surveyed markets under minimum reporting standards. That is a station-and-market reporting context; it is not a published Howard Stern SiriusXM show total. A terrestrial station rating, a show’s unique reach, an average audience, and a service’s subscriber count are different measures and cannot be treated as interchangeable.

A valid comparison would need to align at least the program versus service being counted, unique reach versus average audience or share, terrestrial versus satellite or app listening, geography, measurement period, and method. The public materials cited here do not provide comparable current Stern-specific values on those measures.

What is known about Stern’s historical radio audience?

The Associated Press reported in 2025 that, at the show’s terrestrial-radio peak, The Howard Stern Show was syndicated in 60 markets and drew more than 20 million listeners. The article did not date that peak or explain how the audience was measured. Treat it as an AP-reported historical claim, not a current rating or a figure directly comparable with SiriusXM’s 2025 companywide audience or subscriber counts. Associated Press report.

Where can you listen to Howard Stern now?

SiriusXM announced that the show’s 2026 live season began September 14, airing Mondays, and that an adapted streaming version was set to debut on HBO Max on September 17, with later episodes on subsequent Thursdays. The announcement said 40 cameras would capture the live conversations for adaptation. These schedule and production details describe availability, not audience size. SiriusXM lists the show on Howard 100 and Howard 101; access to those channels is through its subscription audio service. SiriusXM’s season announcement.

Does Stern’s contract renewal prove the show has high ratings?

No. SiriusXM announced a three-year renewal in December 2025, and Stern said he was returning for three years. That confirms the agreement, not the number of people listening or a particular ratings result. A renewal and the company’s overall audience figures are not substitutes for a disclosed show-level metric. SiriusXM’s renewal announcement.
